If you notice that your cat is drinking more than usual, this may indicate that something is amiss. Increased water intake is known as 'polydipsia'. The most common causes of increased thirst and drinking are kidney (renal) dysfunction. A diabetic cat may also drink a lot of water. Take your cat immediately and have your vet check on him! Don't delay it!

Earlier I had a cat who had the same problem. He had difficulties passing kidney stones. His vet said that he would no longer be allowed to eat dried food. Instead, he would eat nothing but canned food with water. Short after his diet was changed, he was OK.
