In the demo the 5G-VICTORI FR/RO cluster is deploying a 5G network infrastructure within a fully virtualized environment, K8s based, onboarding the 3GPP NSA Option 3x Radio and Core software components, installed through Kube5G.
The configuration is based on the OAI 4G/5G RAN and vEPC OAI Core software, N310 radio for 4G acting as eNodeB and 5G as gNodeb and the deployed servers for the virtualized infrastructure. The E2E Architecture also is comprising the O-RAN-compliant flexible RAN intelligent controller allowing to perform slicing in the RAN domain, as the requested bandwidth is released and the required radio resources are allocated to the slice ensuring the required QoS. The demo has been performed for UC #1.2, the infotainment/video services in dense, static and mobile environment. Within the scope of creation of the network slices, the slice 1 is configured to provide Internet connectivity, offering up to 20 Mbps, uplink and downlink traffic, low traffic prioritization. The second slice is intended to act as a URLLC slice, offering 10Mbps, uplink traffic prioritization, the prioritized slice intending to be configured in a second phase. The demo is highlighting also several key innovations, as 5G services and slicing deployment for 5G RAN and Core (OAI) in containerized environment (5G NSA), common 5G core implementation. Also, it has been achieved the 5G service provisioning to the users, service slice creation and UEs association to proper slice and 5G RAN traffic prioritization through Open RAN intelligent controller, that could be triggered by event. Several KPIs have been demonstrated as the 5G network deployment and instantiation, 5G service slices creation and UEs association to the proper slices, service slice performance (Bandwidth/Latency) and traffic prioritization.
The demo has been also achieved the capture of a proper 5G network infrastructure in terms of requirements and extension to support the use cases, dimensioning of the network, the OAI modules deployment and 5G services validation, on top of the 5G infrastructure integration for 5G NSA, within the Kubernetes cluster. During the demo it has been used the yaml configuration files mainly for RAN and Core automatic instantiation and configuration and service provisioning IMSI-based to the UEs. The E2E deployment is done in terms of Time to Market in less than 2 minutes, highlighting the service configuration time and the proper slice selection at UE level, performing a service test of the provisioned network slice to the Internet, as an eMBB service.
