I would place America as probably number 1 place for foodies, japan being a close second for having delicious food that was easy to eat and even with my 20 days stay, I didn't feel sick of the food there and probably Singapore as 3rd. Though, I don't agree with Scott's point that just because the food isn't invented there, doesn't mean it that the food doesn't belong to the country. The thing about food is that it transcends race, it is something that was brought over and changed due to the limitations of the ingredients in the country which is why although different countries may have similar foods , 1 example would be China with la mian (noodles), Japan with Ramen and Taiwan with Beef Noodle Soup, the preparation and ingredients used is completely different and you can't really claim that Ramen isn't a Japan Dish or that the Beef Noodle Soup isn't a Taiwan Dish.

European food> US and UK food combined You cant generalize food depending on how many good restaurants there are bcs Im pretty sure both US and the UK have great restaurants you can only compare them by looking at their cultural food and tbh both are quite weak in that sense compared to most countries across the world. Like Mexico has great food, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Asian and African countries have great food. US is not known for any cultural food its just makes good food that belong to other cultures and as scott was sayin they cant claim that. But UK is not known for its food either except for say fish&chips and tbh thats nothing compared to the variety of delicious food other cultures provide.
@normalizeappendicitis
3 жыл бұрын
well you can say the same thing about the US (in your final sentence). 5up said himself that culturally, american food sucks, but the reason why people visit the US for food is because of the restaurants that have such huge influences from other cultures, along with immigrants from other countries who have spread their food here as well. and of course Europe is going to have better food, it’s literally a continent with 44 countries in it. 5up agreed with Scott, and we never claimed the culturally influenced food to be American, he said the food itself along with with the variety was what draws people here. if you go to america to get, idk, coq au vin, it probably is not going to be as good compared to if you get it in france, but like i mentioned before, the amount of immigrants who are expert chefs in the US who bring their food from other cultures here is so large- and the feeling of authenticity of the food you can get here as well- is what 5up was getting at.
@shaneoleary5447
3 жыл бұрын
@@normalizeappendicitis I think the US has done more with other cultures food than the UK, I'd agree on that in a general sense. The UK has also built upon other cultures food but to the same extent or as uniquely as US. Your point about Europe is kind of silly, because US has 50 states around the sizes of European countries so they had the potential to all have different and unique food. Both UK and US are pretty bad for their cultural food. I'm Irish and we're kind of in the same boat as our traditional Irish food is seen as quite bland. At least we have the excuse of being too poor in the past to afford much more than potatoes and the whole being colonised by the UK for give or take 800 years took up a bit of our time hahahahha. And obviously not having the same access to spices as other countries plays a role.
@normalizeappendicitis
3 жыл бұрын
@@shaneoleary5447 i realize now that the way i worded what i said about the europe part wasn’t great, but what i meant was that there are 44 different countries in europe, so basically from each country is authentic cultural food from there, plus the food that has been brought from other countries- so of course european food will have more authentic cultural food. and yes, the part around the size of the states compared to smaller european countries does kind of make sense, except the entirety of the US went through the same history as a whole, so we are going to have cultural food across the board. the reason why i’m defending our food so much is that if you ever visit here n travel around a bit, you realize how many different cultures have impacted not only the food but also the country as a whole. we have jambalaya, grits, cioppino, new england clam chowder, new mexican enchiladas, lobster rolls, fajitas, california rolls, indian frybread, tostones- like i said, the variety and feeling of authenticity that you get when you eat these dishes when you get it is what makes people want to eat here. we certainly know a little bit when it comes to eating damn good food haha
@greyscaleadaven
3 жыл бұрын
As someone who's travelled through europe, it definitely depends on the country. Bc France IMO doesn't have the best food. But Places like Italy are all very good. Depends on where you are to make that judgement call, but I'd say better then UK though for sure.

Literally all scott named was hamburgers. apple pie, pulled pork bbq, american-style fried chicken, the entire genre of "soul food", potato chips, chocolate chip cookies, half of all candy worldwide 👀... Also Texmex is culturally innovated food that is now american and simply inspired from Mexican food; same thing with most Chinese food outside of China, tends to be the americanised equivalent.

I've had authentic Greek food (not in Greece but we once had a neighbor that was greece) and that statement is too generalized. Come down to Lousiana and try our food and let's see if you still claim the same thing! (I'm talking our cultural food, which is cultural as we are descendants of the people who make this food so absolutely counts) anywho, it's also natural for all people to love their specific cultural food better.

Thing is, "known for good food" is such an undefined statement. Neither the UK, Nor the US are "known for good food". Not many people go to either of these places just because of the food. Noone does that. Countries who are "known for good food" are like Italy, Mexico, France, Thailand, Japan etc. That's where people go to make a culinary journey, not the US or the UK or something. Also hate to disappoint, but other cultures' food is not an argument, every place has that, that's globalization, not exclusively American. You'll find rip-off Chinese restaurants everywhere. Tldr: British food may be bad, but if they're measured by the same standards, so is US American food

Neither of them understood what the discussion is really about . America had massive immigration from all over the world, korea, china, india, italy, germany, mexico. America has quality food, and a lot of different things to choose from . Still, most Americans would stick to one or two cuisine types. Britain is a colonizer, so, they brought a lot of different food. That's why every british dish is a lot different from the original, usually BLAND . That's where the "myth" about british cuisine comes from. With all this being said, i seriously doubt that most Americans COOK good homemade food, they are super used to take away and delivery's Neither america or britain is a foodie destination. If u want to try something so u are better going for the original instead of the knockoff IMO

When you hear "American Food" do you think of Louisiana cajun food, clam chowder, or Lobster, cheesesteak, milkshakes, Buffalo wings, biscuits and gravy, key lime pie, Monterey Jack cheese, eggs benedict, corn on the cob, or do you also think of foods invented in the US by immigrants, like spaghetti with meatballs, or General Tso's chicken, or fortune cookies. Or do you consider dishes modified by immigrants to American tastes, like Chicago or New York style Pizza, or Hotdogs and Hamburgers? Because all of those are "American" foods.
