From Ford dealership technician to another Ford dealership technician....it was a VERY helpful video. 6.2 engines have been relatively issue free from it's introduction in 2011 all the way up to present as far as I've seen, up until I saw this video. Good catch! Also a very good reminder to always, always, ALWAYS check OASIS for TSBs and SSMs. This concern also reminds me of '99 and '00 model year Windstars with the 3.8 V6. Remember those? The intake manifold plastic upper plenums would exhibit a loud rattle also completely resembling a bottom end knock, fooling a lot of technicians alike. It turned out the internal runners which assembled originally snapped into place inside the upper plenum would eventually distort after so much thermal cycling, causing excessive clearance inside so it would just rattle loosely around inside to produce the knocking sound. Thankfully Ford caught on relatively early to this concern and released an updated upper plenum with the internal runners glued to the plenum as opposed to being snapped into place like the original units. Not sure if you have been with Ford long enough to remember those.

Now i know another potential cause for that irritating noise. 3 questions… (I’ve ran thru the procedure on my ‘18 6.2 gas F250 and it has this IMRC tick/bad intake manifold issue) 1) where can I source the intake manifold replacement? I’m being told it’s on “national back order and I may not be looking in the right place to source it myself. 2) Is fixing this something that should be done urgently? 3) Am I damaging my engine by driving it with the tick? Would it be detrimental to disconnect and drive so the ticking isn’t in play during driving? Thanks for any help and thanks for the amazing video

@@FordBossMe thanks. Rich you have to understand, when you talk people listen but don’t always understand. Myself, I have ADHD, I can’t even get directions verbally, unless I’m familiar with an area. How common is this? Every one we've ever seen with a similar noise had bad lifters and rocker arms. Only one got an engine, as the valve spring was in 4 pieces and the piston met the valve hard. Should we not be putting rocker arms on these that are a caught early?

And do you have a part number for this improved plenum and what do I need to go back and disconnect to verify that it is indeed this issue causing the problem since the vehicle is parked in his lot and my tools and scanners will be limited, thank you so much you're a very smart guy

Two questions, what do I need to tell the service department so they make sure they diagnose this correctly? I haven’t gotten setup to hook up Forscan yet but I have pulled the Vac hose and it makes it go away. Also, I have seen poor fuel economy is one symptom of the IMRC issue, is that true and how much does it really effect it? I’m not convinced my current MPGs are just because it’s a gas 3/4 ton. Thanks dude this great info will stock this away. In the back of my mind for my 6.2. So if I missed what actually is wrong with the manifold?

@@FordBossMe thank you very much. Question if you don’t have time it’s cool, I have a 2018 f250 crew cab 6.2 wanting better traction like the tremor, should I do a lsd or locker just your opinion. Thanks

What are the runners for then? Why blocked coolant jets? Where else do those lines go? But then you'd have too much air for the fuel, but the vacuum is meant to produce the power the electrical is for other stuff. Can you run the motor backwards... Data's all messed up look yourself... I have a 2000 s10 with odd parts and a backwards running crankshaft I have to send out...

Do you know what has causes the valve spring failures on the 6.2l engines? I have seen them from pretty much any year with these issues but many people claim they are not common. What I want to know is if these valve springs are failing due to lack of maintenance or excessive engine idling or just constant beating on the engine like foot to the floor? I have heard these engines are fairly reliable but the valve spring failures concern me. Thanks!

My truck is doing the same thing. Are you saying the runner control valve needs replaced or the intake manifold? If it’s the manifold, do you happen to know what in the manifold causes the tick?

That's not really going to cause any issues to hurt anything you might get a little stumble or hesitation from time to time and I don't have the part number right now I'll have to look it up tomorrow if you remind me but we've been having trouble getting these because everything's on backorder or people want a hundred and fifty to $200 more even though the dealers

Does the tapping fluctuate with engine RPM, speed up, slow down, etc? Mine was diagnosed last week at the Ford Dealership as IMRC issue after I sent the service advisor this video, but the intake is on back order. Thanks!

@@FordBossMe Ok thanks for fast reply, I ordered the mx dongle for 49.00, so it should be a good addition to my scan tool Arsenal... Have a great night..
