Great content. We share some of the same opinions when it comes to these cartridges. Currently in the mist of assembling another large frame semi-auto; stuck on cartridge (.308, 6.5cm, or 6cm). Your video made it that much more challenging lol.

Haha right on man. 6CM sounds like a really cool option if you don’t mind the barrel life. Recently shot a 243 large frame AR and really liked it. Keep up with me on what you decide to go with!

As you said, personal preference, but my 16” 6.5 CM gas gun is fantastic. While 308 may loose less velocity as inches are removed, a 16” 6.5 CM can still have better external ballistics than a 20” 308. It’s a really handy carbine.

And it got me a win at a local PRS match for the gas gun division. It was my first time shooting 1k yards and I was landing hits until the wind started having some reverses mid-way down range.

Right on man! I agree, I’ve had a 16 and 18 inch 6.5 and they were awesome (and really handy) rifles. Congrats on the win too!

I love both rounds, and have used both quite a bit over the years. I can honestly say that the 6.5 Creedmoor performed better for me in terms of accuracy, but it was also paired with a rifle and scope that could produce the results. In the end the rifle (A Savage Predator Hunter max) loved Nosler projectiles in just about any weight, which enabled me to produce data and loads for purpose from long range varminting to deer hunting. The rifle was heavy, but I was willing to pay the price in terms of convenience for the trade-off I had in confidence at its performance.

Agreed. Both rounds are great and will serve any shooter well but I’m having a hard time to find a reason to pick up a 308 over 6.5CM unless I want to shoot my military rifles like the Scar, FAL, 91 or MK14 🤷🏻♂️

@@hkrifleworks hunting wise the really heavy bullets for .308 possibly have an advantage for heavier game, but I haven’t done the research (on both data and field performance) to confirm whether or not my gut inclination has any validity. A hog hunt would be a good place to test that theory.

I’m building a 1000 yard AR 10 interdiction rifle and these 308vs6.5 videos have me bouncing back and forth like a ping pong ball.

What did you end up going with? Can always have two uppers for one lower. Maybe an LMT and a few different barrels

@@hkrifleworks I have two Aero M5 stripped lowers. One build will be a 18” 308 and the other will probably get the Odinworks 22” 6.5 upper.

Would like to own both…. But I gotta stick with the .308 cuz I got many Rounds for it, and post pandemic, steel case .308 is a $0.55 per round, brass case $0.85, match load 168 about $1.25 per round! Very little luck trying to find some 6.5 creedmoor Sierra match king HPBT ammo for less than $2 per round. Unless I’m shooting past 700 yards, I’m shooting .308….. anything more and I’ll eventually invest in 6.5 creedmoor rifle/scope/ammo as my precision tool.

Right on and yeah it seems like this recent craziness has really shot ammo up. 9mm by me got up to almost a buck a round. I’m still shooting through some 140 FMJ-BT 6.5 brass stuff that I got for .46 each right before all this mess

Loving this man! I'm a statistician by trade and I've been toying with the idea of doing a channel with lessons on statistics for shooters. Any interest?

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Gun companies and ammo manufacturers want you to think the 6.5 is so much better. It’s all marketing to get your money. Every year companies come out with a newer and better model of whatever it is they are selling. Ok I get it the 6.5 has a higher bc and drifts a few inches less in the wind. Big deal! Like you said the 6.5 has been around for decades. Pick a cartridge you feel is good for the purpose you are using it for and practice

I agree with what you’re saying to an extent. However, after tens of thousands of rounds behind both, 6.5 CM has allowed me to deliver more precise fire and improve first round hit probability at distance.

One is less than 1$ but I do see myself getting a 6.5 later on.

True. Ammo has gotten so crazy the past few years. I’ve got a whole shelf full of 6.5CM FMJ-BT that I purchased for 0.43 each prior to all this mess
