The next big innovation in line will be the elimination of knots between braid and fluorocarbon and use of a bonding agent and/or a small micro sleeve each line end can feed into and be sealed with heat or epoxy to bond the two lines together. People hate tying knots and a good engineer will put an end to the cumbersome knots. I am working on some innovations now to solve this problem.

@@brady8257 no problem, also I find if I'm in very abrasive cover or structure I'll actually switch over to monofilament as my leader line because contrary to popular belief monofilament tends to be more abrasion-resistant than fluorocarbon and this is due to the density levels of monofilament vs fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon is more dense but because of that just bending it too much can actually weaken it whereas monofilament is more flexible and so bending it too much won't weaken it as much as it will with fluorocarbon also if you're in very abrasive cover or structure use 4 strand braid instead of 8 strand braid. Because 4 strand braid is also more abrasion-resistant than 8 strand braid and this is simply because 4 strand braid is made out of 4 thicker fibers woven together whereas 8 strand braid is made out of 8 very thin strands of fiber wolven together.

I personally find that my casting distance with braid on spinning tackle doesn't really start to decline until I reach 0.40 mm or the equivalent of 15 lb mono. So basically for example 50 lb braid is 0.36 mm which is the equivalent of 12 lb mono. So that's about as high as I go on spinning tackle personally so for example for catfish I have a 15 lb to 40 lb spinning rod with a 4000 size spinning reel and 190 yards of 50 lb braid then I use a 40 lb leader line attached to the 50 lb braid.

If you throw plastic swimbaits on jigsheads, a flouro leader is very beneficial. Your jig sinks and plastic swims better with the more dense fluorocarbon. i tie about 7-12 foot leaders on all of my settups. sometimes i go longer with light line, like 15-20 ft with really finesse presentations that require lighter line and rods. the water clarity around where i live never exceeds 4-6 feet, so with a 12 foot leader i am usually able to retie about 3-5 times with that leader until it becomes damaged or too short to fish with. retying a leader is no more of a hassle than tying a bait on, just a little more time, but i believe i get more bites with leaders. Some people are more analytical about it, but i just use the leader line as long as i can before it is damaged or becomes too short for the water visibility. Id fish straight fluoro more for certain techniques, but its just not very cost effective, and i dont think im missing many if any fish.
