Great video. Great tips. Most Americans have no background in negotiating and view car buying as an unpleasant experience. It doesn't have to be that way. The last time I purchased a new vehicle, I did the following: 1. read the reviews of the model; 2. lined up the financing; 3. understood the terms of the financing; 4. checked out the dealers within 10 miles; 5. clearly defined what I wanted in the specific vehicle; 6. was prepared to wait a month or longer, and 7. used my "free" buying company (which , of course charged the dealer). I have now owned that vehicle 15 years.

I avoid dealerships that won't give the selling price of their car over the phone. I've been told that I needed to come down to have more bargaining power. This makes it easy to eliminate overspending on a car. The lowest priced dealer won't be keeping their price a secret. You can also compare prices at different dealerships so you don't have to waste time going to each of them

Excellent points but the price being really low scenario worked out for me. The dealer was obviously truly trying to meet a quota at the end of August 2020. They tried to add in a 1k freight fee and other items after reducing the price from 52k to 43k. They stayed open passed their closing time and I was om the phone with them a few times in route. I told them I was turning around and heading home unless they held to the advertised price but that I would let them offer a better interest rate than what I was pre-qualified for from my bank. I figured I'd show good will to let them get some back end. I was dealing with several other dealers while in route and they all couldn't even match the deal and said it was a false price. I got the dealer to send me the written offer, still other dealers remained confident it was no good ( the out the door price). The dealer held true to their almost 9k discount ( there were no absolutely no cash manufacturer to customer incentives advertised by VW for August). I let them run my credit, they beat my best rate with 1 basis point added. Because the dealer held true to the offer I didn't push for the buy rate. Some may call this soft but I let them make some money, I got an incredible deal, and my relationship with the dealer is in good standing. I didn't buy any extras in the finance office and I was in and out it 45 minutes. I will definitely be willing to do business with them again and hopefully the good faith of my letting them add a point will pay off in the event I ever need service or another good deal in the future.

Oh yeah buddy dealers are money hungry if anything cash rules at a dealership not just at a dealership with private sellers well. @@jumexsuave501 Cash doesn't rule at a dealer. In fact if someone pays cash the dealer probably doesn't make any money. Carmax probably makes more than anyone on their inventory and they may make around $800 in profit on a car. The internet has made the industry a lot more transparent than it used to be. But one of the new realities of car purchases is price negotiations are rapidly becoming a relic of a bygone era.That said trying to negotiate big discounts on popular vehicles was never going to be prone to success. Toyota products hold their value pretty well, you're not going to get a dealer to take much (if anything) off their internet price.

They best way to avoid dealer "games" is to take away all their leverage......1) DON'T trade-in, sell your car privately, it takes time but you will get significantly more money AND take away a tool dealers use. 2)Get pre-approved BEFORE going to look at/drive a car, don't let them set up financing for you, that "convenience" costs you hundred of dollars. 3)Focus on out-the-door pricing and only negotiate that number. 4)You are there to buy a vehicle and a reasonable dealer-fee....NOTHING ELSE. Don't go to a dealer and tell him you want to buy a car. Tell him you're checking around -and actually do it. See what offers they give you. If they give you a quote and it seems like all the places you went to, if you go back and tell him you want the car at the price he quoted, -if he raises the price, walk Any type of high pressure tactics, walk. Some people are basically stupid and don't understand anything. I've seen where a car salesman tell a potential buyer that he can't afford the car he wants. Then doofus goes to a bank and gets the financing and goes back to the salesman and buys the car to show him how wrong he was. Look on the internet for states around you that have better prices on cars. Never let the car company do the financing. You'll get ripped off. If the insurance is included in the price of the car, it's a scam. After the first year you'll pay a fortune. Don't go to a dealer and tell him you'll pay cash. Let him do the financing first and then tell him you'll pay cash. I'm cheap so what I do is I look what type of car is the best for value and drive the car until it is no longer useable. I've been driving the same car for the last 15 years. I've never bought a used car because you never know what you're buying. If you do buy a used car only go to a reliable company and no matter what the price of the car they say is, always say forcefully, "That price is ridiculous." What do you got to lose? I worked for a short period as a car salesman. I had never met one that was honest. The company generally wants them to be cut throat. "Go for the jugular."

The credit thing... For us to lock in a rate we have to run your credit. If you dont want it run by more than one bank, just ask! Tell them only submit it once. Whenever a customer asks me that personally I just tell my manager "only run it once". Our dealership isn't a huge dealer but we work with 52 banks. If we can run your bank once, figure out why your score is the way it is. We can go ahead and figure out exactly which bank is best to go with for the best rate. Sometimes it depends on WHY your score is the number it is. Not WHAT it is. You can have a 700 score but if you had one missed mortgage payment a year ago, tough luck. And I've had customers who had no clue things like that happened. Then guess what? Those numbers I gave you were wrong because now the banks are going to add a point or two.

I'm in Florida. Every dealer charges either a $799 or and $899 "dealer fee" on both new and used cars. There seems to be no doc fee, nitrogen fee, advertising fee, etc. Just a line item that says "dealer fee". Taxes and tag, title and registration fees are separate from this. It is non negotiable - lord I have tried and have walked away from the dealer over this fee. When I google "dealer fee" I get nothing except for redirection to doc fees. Are they the same?

Ari: here's some more tips .the MSRP is NOT the price. the (new car)manufactures SUGGESTED retail price,is only a suggestion (for the stealer-ship)not u ... on used cars the down payment is the price,any thing over that is PROFIT. dealer ad ons are on them,not u...don't get in a hurry,be calm,do your homework..... CASH is KING ! ...cash gets big discounts...don't trade in ,give it away for the tax deduction!

Can you use something like "credit karma" to tell a dealer your credit score. It is, however, considered a "soft inquiry." And would the dealer accept it?Also, I do not tell the dealer that you are paying cash for a vehicle. In 2008, I bought a brand new work vehicle (nothing fancy, all manual locks, doors etc) and I acted like a fool at the dealership. I had the cash to pay for the car but did not tell the dealership. They gave me in house financing at almost 8% for 5 years even though I had great credit. I was told that I was getting a great deal as my monthly payments were low.I had, though, negotiated a very low price for the car. Now if I had actually paid it off at the interest rate they had given me over five years, I would have paid out thousands over the actual price. I paid off the full price of the car in the next two days.

Thanks for the video information. Question: If I wanted to lease a specific Jeep and the dealership didn’t have it in stock and we negotiated an agreeable MSRP price Can the dealership order that vehicle vehicle for me? Also if you have a good credit score banks will sometimes for what ever reason decline you or raise your interest rate by just pointing out something other that may be on the credit report from years and years ago. Can you do a video on a lease of a 2020 Jeep Rubicon loaded? Thanks 🙏

A lease can only be locked in on a vehicle in stock because the lease company is " buying it" . If it takes weeks to get the financial's may have changed .
@rambojohn7118

A Conneely Thanks, I think that would hold true for a purchase also because the buyers finances can change along with the interest rate at delivery

@@rambojohn7118 The price of the vehicle ordered would stay the same . The only think that would change is if your credit rating fell causing you to drop into a new tier . Something like credit purchases , a new loan or a late payment could cause this . Also I am curious what you mean about banks pointing out things on your credit report from years ago , explain ?

Funny how they asked me what I wanted for my trade in. Told them I was already quoted $4k at another dealer (I was only quoted 3). They wanted to give me $2k which was their “best and final” after sticking firm to the price I wanted a new car for, I got $11k off :) 4K which came from the trade in that they valued at 2k hahah

Why are people so lazy and trading-in their cars??? Regardless of how much a dealer gives you, you can do better by selling it yourself.
@painkilerr
5 жыл бұрын
@@Ken-sd4uv well you can try to argue the 1% of cases, but we both know that those rare. In addition, dealers will not give you 18k on a 19k car. You are looking at more like $15-16 trade in.
@painkilerr
5 жыл бұрын
@@Ken-sd4uv So then the rule is whatever your tax burden, subtract that from 100%. If what the dealer is offering is less than 93% (in your case TN) of the price of the car, you should sell it yourself. This is rather simple for me. Dealers around me have always offered thousands of dollars below what I can sell for. People that like to trade live under this exact illusion that you are getting a deal. In reality you are getting stiffed, but hey it is your budget, you should do whatever helps you sleep at night.
@painkilerr
5 жыл бұрын
@@Ken-sd4uv Now this makes more sense. You are arguing your point from a dealerships perspective. If a consumer, doesn't want to invest the time to put up the pictures, take some calls and occasionally deal with a few, as you put it "crazy buyers" then yes they should give you their money and trade in their vehicle. On the other hand, not saying anything about you, but we all know the stories about dealership markups and deceitful practises. I will never give a dime to dealer when I absolutely do not have to. If you were a consumer and not dealer trying to make a living off the reselling of cars, you would agree with me, but I don't expect you to.

@@Ken-sd4uv Personal experience sir. Have sold over ten personal vehicles over the years. More recently my wife's SUV and later on my dad's Civic just last month. And yes, I have ran into the check fraud/moving expense silly fraud attempts. I don't hate dealerships just the idea of not getting the best deal one can. To give you a specific example of wide spread dealer greed, the new for the US, Civic Type R in 2017 with a MSRP of roughly 34k was is still marked up to 39, 40, 41 at several local dealerships. It's hard to respect that if most dealers continue.In addition, at your location, I highly doubt that you'd be selling the new Supras at MSRP, while we both know you would still turn a profit at even dealers invoice after your quarterly unit sale bonuses kick in.
@painkilerr

@@Ken-sd4uv next you will argue why Pharmaceuticals should jack up medication prices because of supply/demand and market conditions. You are jacking the prices because you can. Don't pretend you need it for your bottom line. You are exactly the dealer I never dealt with nor will I ever deal with. You were right to state that the web has exposed "bad" dealers. It just exposed you!
