Woodingdean Water Well has the title of the deepest hand-dug well in the world, but at first sight, it’s just a small covered well you wouldn’t even assume that it’s there. It’s as deep as the Empire State Building is tall - 1,280 feet straight down into the dark, wet ground. It was only used for four years.
