You can't compare. Singapore housing policies start off with one of the key policies in nation building. Hongkong 公屋policy is cater to greedy politicians who pander to big tycoons and speculative purposes. In Singapore, the govt won't allow u to speculate, but tried its best to raise the value of the flats by upgrading every few years or so.

Those money are definitely not used to run the country or anything like that because government officials are running on oxygen only. The HDB, the government subsidized land but only charge the building of these HDB & estate. Having stayed in different generations of HDBs, can easily tell the newer HDBs are much better quality than previous ones, higher floors and has better amenities. Also labour costs increased. That's why HDB prices go up. Nevertheless, one still can "get the subsidized value" when you sell it... usually around double initial HDB purchase price.
It is not always 3 digits. It depends. In toa payoh. There are single digit, double digits blocks
@cooper1819

Main reasons for some your HDB observations because early years, most that moved to HDB were relocated from villages (Kampungs) and (around Chinatown) slums. From villages where is very open, they prefer to live on ground floor, used to open areas to walk around, gather and plant just outside their homes. There were no security gates / fences to be like open kampung, and security is through neighbours (Neighborhood watch groups). There is wide walkways, lobby and "common spaces" to allow people to gather, and mingle. Even play mahjong, throw parties (buffet tables) outside lift lobby, with neighbours. But later, next generations HDBers do not like ground floors, prefer higher and more privacy. That's why newer HDB flats does not have ground floors. So the design of HDBs is to create high-rise / apartment "like village / Kampung" with the community spirit. At least that's the intention.

hi Irene, just want to let you know that no one has the right to use the green field even its conveniently right in front of their residential unit. To do that, they will need consent from NPB, anyway, so far NPB just close one eye about it as long as no one is complaining of any obstruction. So they need to check before they do anything
Our HDB is also much bigger than HK public housing. Nowadays, I often hear people say that the newer HDB flats are smaller than the older HDBs, but at least we Singaporeans don't have to squeeze into subdivided housing or Tong Fong like many people in Hongkong. And no matter how 'small' our HDBs are, I think it 's safe to say that it 's still bigger than typical public housing in HK.

Actually placing of personal items along the corridors of HDB is not permitted. However most neighbours will turn a blind eye as long as it's not too much and do not cluttered the walkways. But if a neighbour complains, then the items must be removed.

One bad thing about SG flats having no security at the g/f gates is that loansharks can go up to the debtors unit and vandalized the walls and doors etc. Some extreme case consists of setting the door gate on fire. That's why loansharks harrassment and vandalism is very rampant and common in SG. What happens if the loansharks target the wrong unit? Plus point is food deliverer can save the time and hassle of registering at the security counter to obtain permission to deliver food to buyer unit.
Hmmm... I think the HDB flats of Singapore are also cleaner, especially the upkeep of the building exterior ,than HK government housing.

Placing outside the corridor I guess it is partly the culture that we used to have villages all around and it was normal during those days. Though the shoes outside are normally cheap sandals and things that we don't value that high. Having our plants outside is because of the sunlight? And it doesn't occur to us that people will want to steal ...plants? (Although my dad did have an occasion that his tomato plants were stolen by a mad person. He found that person and we knocked the door...her son apologized to us, but we said "Please don't dig the poor plants and hurt the roots, just ask. We can give a few plants for free." (My dad was more upset that the plants were hurt....hahhahaha...)

Singapore's HDB policy is possible because the gov decided to prioritise public residential landuse over private commercial/residential landuse. To that end, SG gov enacted the Land Acquisition Act that basically give the gov access to any land it deem necessary for national development. This in turn is supported by us Singaporeans. HK's land policy inherited from British colonial gov was not intent on providing quality public housing, but as part of the colonialisation effort, is to milk as much resources and wealth from the colonies. Singapore was a British colony before, and a look at how the Brits segregated the people into racial zones shows their standard Divide and Rule strategy. In Chinese, CCP 共產黨 is literally "Common Property Party". If China had chosen to intrude into HK SAR's governance, it would have applied land reform policies back in 1997. Yet China is repeatedly blamed for HK's housing woes. It is baffling from Singapore's view. You cannot have your cake and eat it.
I feel like i can practice listening to Canto with this....

On the SG part, we have failed miserably, having a much bigger floor space than our HK counterpart, yet we need to claim the corridor space to place unwanted items, furnitures etc. On the contrary HKgers do not abuse the corridor space despite that, their corridor though old looking but very clean and empty. Our town council should pay a work visit to HK to learn from them. Neighbourly fight occur frequently doesnt happen from onwhere, its simply their misguided thought of wanting to corridor space that doesnt belong to them in the first place. BTW Irene great video💖💖💖
