@@torontocycling Yes, went from Toronto (Lawrence and Bathurst) to Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls. It was a wonderful ride. At the Hamilton bridge, I was so lucky to see it go up and down. Nice day.

Your video shows mostly a leisurely riding speed but what percentage of your ride would you estimate you were cycling at higher speeds?
@torontocycling
3 жыл бұрын
According to the ride stats at Strava, my avg speed for the 6h ride was 26.5k/h. It was mostly an endurance ride, so we spent almost 70% of the ride at easier Power zones (Z1,Z2, and Z3).

you rode through secondary roads, avoiding the main highway, right? did you a custom map or is google maps enough? how many stops you made to cool down and for how long? thanks and cheers!

Never ever ride on a highway in Canada, it is against the motor vehicle laws and you'll get a ticket which goes on your driving record :) There are several apps you can use to map you ride on your cellphone, e.g., Strava, Komoot, AllTrails, etc. GMaps have improved a ton on Cycling aspect recently, but sometime it is still not updated with most current trails and roads. If you have a bike computer like the one you see me zooming into at each cut, they have also Cycling specific maps. (Garmin/Wahoo) We stopped mostly for refilling water and nutrition perhaps 3 times, each about 5-10min. Hope that helps.

Just did this ride last weekend. Midtown Toronto to the Falls. Luckily the weather was favourable, with overcast skies, light winds. The route was pretty straight forward, but the last 20-25 Km from St. Catherines into Niagara Falls really surprised me with its intensity. I found the section of the South Service road between Burlington and St. Catherines to be a very uncomfortable ride, with the bumps from the expansion joints jarring all the way along. One thing you don't think of is the noise of the QEW, which is deafening. I took 2 breaks, at 50 and 100 km, and reached the falls in 6:30 hours. The ride back on the Go Train was very comfortable with their bike racks on the lower level of the car. This was my longest ride and I like to thank you for inspiring me to do this challenge. Next up, Lake Simcoe circumnavigation..That's 180-200 km. Again, thanks. Cheers

Welcome to Toronto! There are a handful of quality and friendly bikeshops in Toronto. My picks are "Newsons Bike and Skate", "Blacksmith's Cycling", and "Bateman Cycling". All has IG and website. Happy riding your bike!

@@torontocycling Oh wow! I tried this summer with a Rigid mountain bike and only made it to Grimsby. I completely bonked out. Now, I have a Road bike. I'm going to try it again and take Transit back.
