Super interesting routine sis, I am trying to overcome a growth plateau now, and have been doing mini twists leaving them in now on month 2 and haven’t seen ‘results’ yet but do feel like my hair is retaining moisture way easier than when I would do wash n gos or leave my hair out! Hopefully I can keep them in as long as you have!

I’m so glad you’re trying it! But if you haven’t seen results after 2 months yet, I think it’s safe to say you’re still missing something. Do you style your mini twists off your shoulders? I think that will really make the difference if you feel your hair is moisturized!

@@cocoainkyoto yes!! I started doing secondary protective styles last month so this is my first month of tucking my hair away! I’m also realizing I haven’t been documenting the process as much as I should be, the biggest difference has been the increase in density of my hair! I am going to start taking monthly pictures so I can really compare! Thanks so much!☺️

I actually am the same lol. Idk if it’s the density of my hair or just how I style it, but the dandruff doesn’t tend to fall out of my hair; it just piles up. In high school when my hair was shorter, thinner, and straight, the dandruff would fall and leave trails which was absolutely horrifying 😅 Honestly I’m still looking for a way to fix the dandruff 😞

🌷✨ @NappyHalo @cocoinyoto I’m on the same path. Loving long term twists. dandruff is a bit of a conundrum and root cause could be due to a number of things so I’m not gonna try to be an internet dr here. but what helped me was adding a little need oil to the oil blend I use to massage my scalp. problem solved! hope it works for you too. Btw, I massage my scalp every other day with just a tiny bit of my oil mix. If I don’t do that then the sebum and scalp skin cell turnover becomes noticeable. every other day massages keeps blood circulating and natural sebum loose. Thanks for sharing this video ✨🌷

I’ve had twists in my hair since november and haven’t washed it. I make sure to moisturize everyday and redo my twists once a month. I might keep on going until may so it makes 6 months, I’m thinking About washing it in twists but I’m nervous because I’ve never done it before.
@cocoainkyoto
2 жыл бұрын
If you re-do them once a month, I think it's worth it to at least try washing it once to see how you feel. The biggest issue with washing the twists is that they need to be detangled afterward because the water makes them shrink up, so if you're planning to re-do them anyways, I would say try it for sure! If you don't like it, well I think you'll make it to the 6 month mark much easier since you've already gone for more than half of the period :)

After oil rinsing do you keep it on for a bit before rinsing it out? And do you squeeze the oil in your hair or just pour it on you hair?

So sorry for replying so late. I rinse it out immediately after just pouring it on and running in down my hair with my hands a few times. No squeezing, but I am spreading the oil by rubbing it down :)

Hi. Thanks for this vid. I want to ask tho, Will scratching your hair cause breakage? You say to not touch the hair and make sure it's either in contact with a satin/silk fabric or air. Honestly, if I don't wash my hair for just a week it starts to itch, but I can stay without washing it for 3 wks max. But I don't think I can stay without itching my hair. I want to know if it will have effects on length retention. Your answer will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
@cocoainkyoto

Hey there! Thanks so much for your comment. From my experience, scratching doesn’t really cause breakage. I suppose if you have chips in your fingernails, those can snag the hair and subsequently lead to breakage from scratching, but the scratching alone shouldn’t cause breakage. You would be able to tell whether or not it causes breakage for you by seeing if there’s any hair in your fingernails after scratching or if you hear “popping” which would be your hair strands breaking during scratching. If you don’t notice anything like that, then rest assured that your hair isn’t breaking when you scratch your scalp.

Hey!❤ so basically u've said you take down ur protective style every week when moisturizing,do you mean by re-doing your mini twists or just moisturize it in twist without untwisting? Because i re-do my twist every week.is this not good?
@cocoainkyoto
8 ай бұрын
Hey there! ♥️ I remoisturize every week while keeping the twists in. I only re-do the twists once a month or less! I wouldn’t recommend retwisting every week unless it was REALLY gentle; to me, this would mean retwisting without doing any detangling. That would be ok, but definitely avoid detangling every week. Hope this helps 🫶🏾

@@cocoainkyoto ok , currently, how many times did you redo your hair in the 6 months?I watched your “how I did it “ video and was very helpful! could you go into detail on when you redo & wash your hair? Do you wash your hair in the twists then immediately redo them after the wash? Do you wash with oil right after the mud wash? Are you moisturizing with oil and water weekly? Suuper curious ☺️
@cocoainkyoto
2 жыл бұрын
@@passiveincomegirl1824 so I only washed and redid them 4 times cuz after the 4th month I didn’t wash them again until after taking them out at month 6. I washed my hair in the twists, oil rinsed (not oil wash tho not really sure if there’s a difference), and then moisturized. Then over the course of the next week or two I would re-do the twists, so no it was never immediate and was not even in a timely manner which is why it took me 7+ days to redo them 😭 And yes every weekend I would remoisturize with water, leave in conditioner, and castor oil the exact way I did in the “How I Moisturize 4C Hair” video :)

My hair dreads after 3weeks, don't know how y'all do it
@cocoainkyoto
2 жыл бұрын
Mine definitely did start to dread as well. I have 2 "detangling" videos where I show parts of my detangling sessions within this 6 month period and I show a lot of the matting I had. The first video is "Long 4c Detangling" and the second is "Removing my two month old twists". If I had to recommend one, I would choose the latter because it's newer so the editing is better overall and the video is shorter, but both are good references for how difficult it was to detangle the twists. Even though this regimen was generally to detangle only once a month, I usually ended up starting the detangling session about two weeks in because by then there were some twists that were moderately matted. Additionally, I did find that this method of moisturizing kept my ends from getting too tangled, but I never did figure out how to keep the roots from matting =/
