Have worn my Milgauss GV for the last 7 years. It’s an everyday watch, I do miss having a date, it does get scratched easily but it’s the watch I want and it isn’t in your face. My next watch will be a Rolex Cellini in rose gold. Both of these watches shout ‘quality’ rather than ‘bling’.

I really love the look of this watch with the unusual lightning bolt hand. I was very close to pulling the trigger on an LV version four years ago but thought I'd miss the date function! In hindsight I wish I'd bought it because I haven't seen anyone wear one and I live in the SE of the UK and go to London a lot - plus they have become a sound investment. It really stands out from the (Rolex) crowd but I agree you have to be careful with it as a daily wearer because of the polished finish. I'd keep it Anders!

This model as it’s white counterpart is discontinued. The Milgauss as a collection isn’t. “The black dial version of the non-GV Milgauss was discontinued around 2013, meaning that this particular edition was only in production for about six years - quite a short time for a modern Rolex watch. The Milgauss with a black dial and clear sapphire was discontinued not long before the Z-Blue dial appeared the following year at Baselworld, so it could be said that the Z-blue dial replaced the second black dial option.” www.bobswatches.com/rolex-blog/comparisons/non-gv-rolex-milgauss-discontinued.html

This watch was designed for engineers, scientists etc. But now with it's mirror finished case and bracelet it's totally unsuitable. It's a Hi-end watch for highdays and holidays, but it's too heavy for that. So what is it for? What happened to 'form follows function'? It's not just Rolex. The world is full of expensive dive-watches no one would dream of diving in, pilot's watches for passengers. Field watches which you take off and put on a beater before going camping. We're all guilty.
@TimeAndCrown

Hi Michael. It’s a natural evolution in horology. Today no one needs a mechanical watch. They are toys, jewelry, art, historical monuments, mechanical wonders... I really like the fact that form and function dosn’t always go hand-in-hand. It makes watches fun. At least in my world. Best regards, Anders

@@TimeAndCrown I agree with a lot that you say. I think what gets up my nose is the pretentiousness of it all; but I guess that's part of game (I'm 62 and a boring, grumpy old sod :). They can be a piece of artistic expression, something you can interact with; maybe regulate or service yourself, a status symbol and an expensive toy. Not sure about the horology though. Nowadays about the only mainstream watchmaker still pushing the boundaries is Seiko and perhaps Omega on a good day. Everything seems to contain off the shelf calibre's. It's a sobering thought that there's probably more watchmaking history and innovation in a Vostock Amphibia than a modern Longines or Tudor. I suppose I should lighten up though.
