Awesome video! I have one on order & can’t wait till I get that ship notification. I have a Q2 Monochrom that I love but I’m itching to shoot some color again. I think that’s partially why I chose the Diary version, I like that it has some color to body, vs the Q2M that’s all black. If Ricoh fixes the weather resistant/ruggedness issue, & puts a bigger battery in the next model, it could just be the next “it” camera. It’s got so much going for it, & it wouldn’t take much for Ricoh to really put it over the top. I’ve got a concert coming up, and I really hope it delivers before then.

Regarding the warming and the battery life, one huge factor here is if you’ve got Clarity enabled (either + or - ) - I’ve found that setting it to 0 improves things significantly, obviously at the expense of not quite getting the look you might want. It’s a very processor-intensive adjustment, and it’s displayed in real-time on the Ricohs (versus only applied after the fact on Fujis, hence why they take a second or two to process when you have it enabled).

Let’s give credit to the GRII which pioneered the GR “hype” long before social media’s interest of cameras. Plus, it had a pop-up flash. The only problem with the Positive film simulation, although it’s one of my favorite, is that every single picture of Tokyo you can find online made with a GRII or III look the same 😅 But it’s a great travel/memories camera.

The autofocus is snappy but it can often focus on the wrong thing if you’re on wide. I wouldn’t trust it tracking anything like on a Sony. Most reviews I’ve watched have all expressed snap distance shooting is the way to go. That just sets a predetermined focus distance.

I think that the Ricoh GRIII are too expensive when you think of the rather poor built quality, not the best performing Lens and no EVF, thank you, but no, not for me.
@professionalpotato4764
Жыл бұрын
The lens is actually ridiculously sharp. Not on par with my Fuji 18mm f/1.4, but about 85% of the sharpness. You probably got a bad copy. Build quality-wise, it's not a tank and definitely needs a bit of babying, but the features it has justifies the price. There's literally NOTHING ELSE on the market with all the same features going for the same price, weight, and size. The lack of EVF is understandable to make it pocketable, but I can see how it's a dealbreaker for some. Personally, having memorized the 28mm framelines, I just point and shoot without looking at the screen. After using primes for a while, the framelines should be burned into our vision by default.

@@professionalpotato4764 I do not have a GR and I will not have it, it is not good enough quality for me. Ricoh GRIII at B&H $966, you can get a very nice system Camera like fx Sony A6100 with an EVF for $748, so YES the Rich are too expensive for the NOT quality !

@@cameraprepper7938 Fair enough. That's what I thought initially before renting or owning one. But an a6100 with a lens will never be as compact as the GR. It's one of those things you'll only understand once you've had it in your hands. See if you can rent it, maybe you'll like it :) I used to be a GR hater like you until I rented it for 2 weeks to test. The potential to get high quality photos instead of terrible phone images for spontaneous and once-in-a-lifetime shots far outweigh the cons of this camera imo.
@cameraprepper7938
Жыл бұрын
@@professionalpotato4764 I was just pointing out that the GR are too expensive and the built quality too poor, that is why I compared to the Sony A6100. Yes the image quality from the GR are better than from a phone, but MANY real cameras are better than a phone. When I need quality in my images, I always use my Sony A7RIV Cameras !
@professionalpotato4764
Жыл бұрын
@@cameraprepper7938 The a6100 is even more plasticky and worse built imo. The only advantage is you can clean the sensor yourself. It lacks IBIS, or any other kind of advanced features like in-camera RAW processing, leaf shutter, snap focus etc. Where the GR shines is in situations where you will not have a ILC camera. Unless you bring the A7R4 everywhere with you 24/7 even to the toilet or supermarket. Again, like I said it is one of those experiences that you need to have before you'll understand it. Like virginity you know? When you see a special moment, ultra glorious lighting and the perfect shot on your way back from grocery shopping or work, but all you have is a smartphone you'll forever regret not getting that shot.

I shoot all sorts of cameras but when I want to have fun with friends and family it's always the Ricoh that comes long. People don't take it seriously and smiles come out when I bring it to my face. The APS sensor is big enough and I appreciate the in body stabilization and the ability to find a face. Prior to buying the Ricoh, the Sony Rx1r was my favorite EDC camera. However, the Ricoh is smaller, has more features and has better focus modes. For anyone on the fence about buying a Ricoh, give it a try. However, as with all cameras that have lenses that retract, do not put this camera in your pocket. Pockets have lint and dirt that can find their way into the camera. I usually carry my Ricoh in a plastic ziplock bag.

As a Ricoh shooter as well, it's a love/hate relationship. The size and IQ are amazing, but it has it's shortcoming like you mentioned. But as others have said, it's a unique camera that's capable of amazing results.
