Of course I'd love every book to be high grade but to be honest as long as the front cover presents well I'm happy to have it in a low or mid grade.

Alan, 💯 agree. Years ago, I'd seek more mid-high grades for key GA/SA books. I was misinformed and thought most collectors did too. But waiting for the "best" copy, often broke the budget and caused missed nice opportunities on more affordable low grade keys that were already scarce. Just prior to your YT videos I had started to buy more low grade GA/SA books. Your constant unboxing of low grade greats really pushed me to accept low grades even more. In fact, I really liked your low GA copy of Black Cat #1 that I went hunting and found a nice copy on MCS. What did you pay for yours? The MCS copy is low at 3.0 and I wasn't sure if price listed was too much but placed it in my cart. I've also started to consider restored GA keys. I know you have several purple labels displayed on your walls. I now think a GA key classic esp. with a little color touch. Terrific and very appropriate vid! 😃 👍

Thanks for your feedback. My Black Cat I paid $340. Strangely, the price difference between 1.0 and 3.0 isn't that much. I had a thought that collectors could buy into the book using a low grade then use it to upgrade later.

For the golden age books there is just not too many high grade books available anyway. In 1975 I bought a Canadian edition of Blonde Phantom 20 for $20 from the Dragon Lady comic shop. I think I probably have the only edtion of that book that exists. I agree, low grade is an excellent way to go.

3:27 I'm very late to this discussion. However, I have a question. Is that piece of Action Comics #1 smaller than a typical trading card? If it is, it would make a tremendous item for collectors to "chase" in a DC Comics themed trading card set. I don't condone the practice of cutting up vintage objects for the purpose of creating pseudo-fractional ownership opportunities. If the piece is already detached, though...

I agree pieces out of the cover of a lower grade is annoying. My Louis Lane #70 is missing a small piece of the top corner where the comic code logo is at but for $190 couldn't pass up. My Action Comics #252 is also missing the corner were the comic book code is and it doesn't effect the cover art that much. Again got the book cheap at $580. For the most part most of my lower grades have great eye appeal. To conclude if I find it cheap enough and its missing some the cover I'll get it if its in my budget.

Yeah, price really does determine how much of a flaw I'm willing to accept as well.

I like a lower grade book for my collection only when it presents well. I want the book and cover to look as good as it can to the naked eye without nitpicking the look when I take a closer look at it again and again.

Agreed, I get annoyed when there are pieces out of the front cover.

Great reasons and examples for getting low grades! I have a low budget for comics, so I like finding nice presenting Silver Age low grades for my collection (I guess around 2.5-4.0). When I found a low grade Scooby Doo 1 at an antique store back in January, I remembered your great video on low grade Scooby as an investment 👍.

Both are very hot right now. I think they are good long term keys but right now isn't the best time. They will dip once hype regarding Neal Adams fades. Probably in 2-3 months will be a better time.

@@ComicCollectorGeek what I read somewhere is the stories may have been the same as Fawcetts but the art was changed. The artist, Furness drew in C C Beck's style.
