Reliability? Check! I have two 2011 335i X-Drive e92 coupes (n55 Engines). One has 220,000 miles (minor repairs - water pump, charge pipe, and typical routine maint). The other one has 96,000 miles and no repairs yet, but proactively replaced water pump. The most annoying thing is the replacing of the Oil Filter Housing gasket every so often. But it's a cheap and easy repair.

Over the past few thousand miles I have replaced the following: high pressure fuel pump, water pump (electric), valve cover and gasket, oxygen sensor, and of course brakes (a normal expense unlike the others). The non-normal expenses have been thousands of dollars. I am very happy with the car but surprised at how many things go wrong with it. Hey man I wanna thank you for making this because I had been looking for a video to explain what's possible with the car, instead of giving an opinion about what you think is right like everyone else. For anyone considering buying one... This past June I bought a 2011 335xi, e90 n55 because I was tired of driving around a shitty mazda 6. I don't make a lot of money and I'm 24. I was pretty intimidated regarding the cost of repairs and the rumors about cost. I couldn't be happier now. I got a great deal at 90k miles for $8000. The guy had receipts for the water pump and thermostat replaced at 70k, I called the business to confirm the work done and they were able to tell me quite a bit about the service record since he brought it there for all the work. In my own opinion, if you are anywhere near handy and willing to learn about how the car is put together to do maintenance, you'll enjoy the car MUCH MORE than you think you will. The first time I took it to back roads and floored it around a bend, I said out loud "are you fucking kidding me?!"

Just got my 340i upgrading from 2009 325i. Owned my 325i for 6 yrs and 7 months traded the car with 174k miles, I didn't have any catastrophic experience lol below the work done during my 6 yrs with the car. I brought my 2009 in 2014 car had 42k miles. One owner. -The door handles started to melt in my 3rd yr of ownership (2017) basically door handles melt after 7yrs lol (most annoying issue) BMW wanted soft touch handles however they underestimated the Florida HEAT!!! -Starter. at 120k miles -Head Gaskets 124k miles -Radiator. 134k miles -Oxygen sensors 3 of them 138k miles Breaks pads, oil changes every 6k miles, flushed the coolant twice, changed the spark plugs twice (coils lasted 170k miles), and changed the battery twice as well. No other regular maintenance done to the car. The torque converter started failing at 160k miles I put another 10k miles without fixing the issue, car was taking me to work and back home (80 miles a day) the car will shake a little when the issue began and it got worst with time, then I found the 340i with the B58 and decided it was time for the upgrade !!!! to be honest I could fix the torque converter on my 2009 325i with 1200 $ and will probably last another 60k without any other problem. This is my 4th bimmer and it won't be the last.

I swapped coils and replaced plugs no luck! Hoping it's an injector. Other code is p1415 for air pump. Bought the OBD2 cable and going to tune it out. Basically thanks for all the videos I'd be completely lost without you and some other guys here! Find a good BMW mechanic and don't be cheap with maintenance. I learned this after owning my first e36. It was actually for my son. Before this, I always owned Japanese cars and trucks. I really enjoyed driving his car so I bought one for my wife (e90/328) After the warranty ran out, I truly found out why its so expensive to own. The dealers and the mechanics. Truly rip offs. If they don't know what's wrong they start changing parts. During this time I found a real BMW whisperer. Saved me tons of money. I bought a 335 after. Never went back to dealer. Buy bmw parts only. No Chinese crap. Internet is full of it. Might last 6 months but will fail before its time. This can lead to more problems. Good mechanic, no cheap parts, follow maintenance. Every 70,000 miles, change water pump and belt. Both cars have close to 150,000 and are in mint condition, and we don't want to trade them in because we have no issues with either of them.

Haters going to hate. Let em. Keeping the demand low keeps the price low.. I don't mind if 335s slide underneath the radar. Maintenance is definitely on the expensive side, but still 20% cheaper than the M3. The block is good for 600+, no one is going to daily something more than that, simply not reliable. Currently running 23 PSI on stock turbos, FBO, custom tune, reliably for a year now. Smooth power delivery is a characteristic of an inline 6's balance, love it.

It sucks I never got to experience my 335i, I bought a 2008 with 75k miles and a week later my engine blew. And yes I did have a PPI and a person knowledgeable about this platform come along the price to fix it wasn’t for it for me so I just got a Infiniti Q50. Great content though keep it up 🙏🏽

I've had my 335i 2007 msport FBO for more than 5 years and I love the performance, drive experience and sounds. The only dislike is the reliability issues... yes it does have constant oil leaks like a fountain and just the other day my thermostat shut closed which gave me a nice surprise of coolant leaks everywhere. The increase HP and torque by a tune and FBO expose all the weak points in the car so maintenance schedules are increased as well as a requirement for both high flow and low flow OIL catch cans! A must! Personally DCI is not necessary as the factory air box is more than sufficient for stock snails.

Damn my Japanese VQ35DE from Nissan which has alot of miles on it, doesn't leak one single drop of oil. Also second owner and first owner had no engine problem ever. Same for me nothing with the whole drive train and whole engine. NOTHING. Literally really 0.0% problems. I think alot of BMW drives do not understand how reliable a car can be. And they are afraid to buy a Japanese real quality car. The only thing that breaks down on such car are "brakes" because you brake. And "tires" because you drive/drift.

@Will Will True. However, there is a reason the video says "unreliable". The fact that he had to address that says something. Also, the reliability factor is well documented among several consumer reports as not so high on the list. Just seems like there are a lot of other high performance options that wont become money pits. Also over engineering leads to more problems later. Just numbers, more things to break. Just sayin.

335i can be easily modified to be faster than my well tuned e46 M3. But from 80mph and up, I can beat them. But it's a struggle. I find these cars to be fairly easy to work on. They have enormous aftermarket. They have extremely reasonably priced parts if you buy everything online. Even if you have to buy the odd fastener or two at the dealer it's not that bad at all. And, if you're lucky like me, you can recruit one the parts guys to help you wrench on your M3 on one of his days off. VERY good rate in cash. Invaluable assistance. Even some great advice. Mr. A, I thank you, sir. Profusely. I just wish I was turbocharged. They're so easy to get more power. It's unbelievably expensive to add turbo to the E46 M3. You got to rebuild the bottom end. It is about 40 Grand with all the other modifications you need to keep things from breaking. You end up with over 800 horsepower to the rear wheel on E85 and 25+ lbs boost. And you can run flex fuel in any combination of gasoline and E85. With the AEM Infiniti you can also dial in precise traction control for any boost.

Purchased a used 2009 e92 335i (N54 engine) stock with just m-suspensions and performance exhaust. Fell in love right then and bought it at the spot from am official BMW dealer. I have an awesome indie garage the specialists in m-tuning and tuned my 335i to the well known “full bold on” status. An insane 400hp and when using the JB4 you get an iOS app that comes along with it that you can use to see your engine live, switch maps and do other cool stuf like read engine failure codes,... The only thing I downgraded after the tune was the exhaust system as with catless down pipes and the performance exhaust... it’s just too much after a while. It was fun fir the first weeks but a cold start early in the morning gets your neighbors asking about it. Switches to a stock exhaust and still awesome sound :-) Love the car... some small issues but nothing unusual or catastrophic failures. You realize it’s a machine and a machine can have some issues. The 335i is perfect if you want tuning fun and still get to business customers in a classy stock looking car but has 400hp.
