Companies like Zip Recruiter, Dice, and Indeed should also do their due diligence in verifying these companies' legitimacy. As job seekers, we're trying to find job, and not add extra work for us to do to determine whether a job posting is legitimate or not.

I have long suspected that while many of these job postings are legitimate, a sizable number of them are posted by companies with no intentions of ever considering anyone that they might get a resume from such solicitation. Rather, they have posted these jobs simply to cover themselves with the EEO. They have probably already decided who they want from a different source locally held.

I answered an ad for a recruiter this past Sunday. Yesterday morning I got a call from the recruiter about "one of our positions" I applied for. I was on the phone with her for about 20 minutes, she never once specifically mentioned the Senior Accountant position I applied for, she was just very vague in the conversation and seemed interested in only getting me to come to her office for a face to face. She said that "anyone who applies to a position needs to come in and talk before we can do anything". The last time I did that with a recruiter we spoke for an hour about a specific position only to be told at the end of the hour that they were "just informed the position was filled". Basically I became a statistic for them. Since then I am very leery when it comes to recruiters.

Interesting video with useful tips. I may add that many HR post jobs to provide the illusion of being busy and working. Websites such as Monster, Indeed, and ZipRecruiter are involved in unscrupulous practices such as reposting expired jobs after being taken off on companies' websites just to generate traffic and consequently postings from potential recruiters. The internet has created a boon for many parties across the employment chain on the expense of job-seekers.

One of the most common tactics scammers reveal themselves without communication is when you have expressed interest with a job posting and what happens ??? The fraudster chases you in a sense to respond . I had one that constantly kept sending me messages that I must apply over and over. Placing a desperate one sentence caption such as addressing you personally … “ This opportunity is short-lived, You are in demand please respond, You are the top candidate ! The employer needs you ! “ No employer harasses a total stranger with no interview, no contact information to get into touch . Another is a misleading message once you’ve applied and you notice at the top the job posting address keeps changing over and over as you are waiting to get to the actual application . Another , you select to fill out an application and instead , you find all that is requested from you is giving your name, address and your phone number with an agreement to constantly allow your phone number to become inundated with text messages of jobs that don’t exist and your previous application did nothing more than provide contact information . I block them immediately and move on. Some of these crooks are smooth talkers. Very infuriating !

I got an email last week regarding a job posting I applied to through Indeed. The posting appeared legit; I looked up the company prior to applying and it was a real company. However, there were many red flags in the email from this employer. First of all, no employer is going to contact you from a Gmail account. Second, there were typos galore throughout the email... he even misspelled his own last name. He offered me a job without an interview and the hourly rate was ridiculous. I asked how could he offer me a job without even interviewing me, why would he offer to send me a check when I hadn't even worked yet, AND why would he trust to send equipment to a total stranger's house without even making the effort to schedule an interview? I guess was asking too many common sense questions because all communication immediately ceased.

You missed one HUGE way to spot a fake posting.... "impossible or unreasonable requirements." Things like demanding more experience than is plausible for anyone to have (ten years of experience on a product that only existed for eight years), mismatched requirements (hard requirements that would never go together in the real world), overly specific requirements (like they care that you can write C# for a Java job... anyone that is good at C# can do Java trivially), or things liked over the top education requirements that would in no way demonstrate or even suggest value to the job. These are the biggest signs I've found. And I've been writing about this for years.

I am also adding another warning due to experience. Please never make any consideration for any alleged recruiter, supervisor, or company. Legit or not. That tries to conduct an interview via texts or email exchanges then tries to get schedule a formal live in person interview after 4pm. Unless you request it and its held in a public legitimate business. I had an alleged female representative email me with what appeared to be a legitimate business logo trying to get me to meet her at 10pm for an interview at an undisclosed location. I said no. For obvious safety reasons. Also, never entertain phone interviews after hrs unless by your preference. It is rude and a nasty power practice on their behalf. Be safe.
@babatundeonabajo

"Human Resources" has such a bad name, but I think if all HR were like you, the sector would be redeemed. There is one more thing I would like to add to your video and that is that some jobs are "fake" by virtue of the fact that the successful candidate is already known from the outset, which means you as a candidate stand absolutely no chance of ever getting the job. Some companies do this because they strangely like to create the impression of equal access to a job at the company so they post it publicly even though they already know who will get the job. It seems to be a big thing in the government and health sector. I don't think there is a 100% successful strategy of avoiding this other than to say that if you find yourself up against an internal candidate (e.g. if you are being group assessed), just quit the interview and move on. You won't get the job and it's not worth your time being stuck in an application process with the cards stacked against you.

Well after doing all the necessary dupe 3 online lenghty tests, long online application process, medical workup, and background checks. All which you pass. Then calling you and urging you to start early for them. Then rescind the offer quickly close to the date because their "census is low or company does not have the funding". There is a staffing company called Kforce in Florida USA and possibly across the US. After years of submitting to them for software testing contract work, we finally worked together; FYI, had a face-to-face interview. They hired about 24 software testers for UniversalOrlando. The Kforce people were completely replacing everyone who worked for the previous agency who Universal was clearing out. Kforce said they had the contract for 2 years with possible extension to 5 years. After a month, the Kforce contractors started getting laid off, and after 3 months everyone had been replaced by an Indian staffing agency.

Actually they need that. If there was a way to send a screen shot of the applicant tracking system that fortune 500 companies make the temp agencies, I could show you. Some require the last 4 of your SSN, some require last 3 of your SSN, some require month & day of birth (not year)

Dua Bhatti No company will EVER ask any candidate for a fee! If you ever cross path with one that ask you to pay something, RUN! that is a SCAM.

I get the feeling that a certain job I was entertaining is fake. I got an email supposedly from indeed with no link saying I could make $400 a week. I sent my resume and got back a favorable response but was feeling uneasy. Tried to track down the source of this job posting. Was unsuccessful. I have not provided any further personal information other than what my resume contained (phone number and email). I’m backing out at this point because I really don’t like how this has progressed. They’ve also said that I will receive a MacBook in order to do the job.

I got a call and the recruiter used abbreviations and said it’s for pcu and said some credit union that I’ve never heard of a d that the shift diff is 1.75 hr more so that sounds nice but i dont know if it real or not they called a and texted and emailed when I didn’t answer the phone I call back and they schedule 2 more interviews one that’s prepping me for the third one and asking more questions so now I’m just confused because normally you sent one interview at a time
