Thanks for these insights. For those of us who only own one pair of skis, its more a matter of compromise to find the 'one ski quiver'. I ride Rossignol Sky 7's at the mo; 180cm skis (slightly taller than me) with a 98 waist, mounted with Tecton 12 bindings. I've worn skis wider at the waist, but on piste they are less manageable. The Tecton bindings give me the best of both worlds, both up and down hill for the sort of skiing I enjoy. Unless you have deep pockets, its always about compromise..

Very useful, thank you! I have arranged one week ski hire (Gold Package) for Alpe D'Huez from Feb 24th, and have been trying to get some response out of the shop to my question 'what skis do you have available this year in the Gold pack?', but have had no response. It doesn't bode well and I'm nervous about it. I think I'm going to have to be strong with them and take the time to go inspect whatever they offer plus review what they have in my length and width range. If I were buying skis this year I think I would be pretty sold on the Salomon Addikt Pro at 163cm, so would be delighted if that came up. Difficulty is knowing what Intersport Alpe D'Huez (Bergers) might have that's similar to that ski come the day... Alternatively I guess I've still time to just go buy a pair I like

When I first started, the length of ski was determined by the height of your arm raised above your head. 210 & 220cm lengths were usual. Often wondered why so long.

Interesting video. When you're hiring you often get a choice of Bronze, Silver and Gold and so usually I book Gold, because I assume that should be a better ski. But in shop and looking at others' skis, I am not sure. Do you have an opinion? Cheers.

I think the quality of ski depends on each shop! Honestly there isn’t many shops I trust! A lot of skis go out blunt and untaxed .. I have had clients in ski boots two sizes too big!

Thanks Flos - interesting vid! Do you know the reason the length shouldn’t be above a certain point? I would assume it is to do with the weight of skier? Thanks!

Hi Thanks for your message ..I think its because the skis today aren`t designed for a long length due to side cut

Talking about edges & wax, do you do your own ski tuning? If so, care to share your approach? Thanks!
