Lisa and Doug, this was a cool experiment! I wish you had repeated it with the sandwich maker for a little longer, to see if it would have browned a bit more. Also, what about a waffle maker (probably a burned mess?) or an electric skillet (probably similar to your griddle test?)? People living in an rv or in a dorm, without an oven, will appreciate knowing what their options are for making cookies. Thanks for the education AND entertainment! -- Becca Klash

Here are ideas for future videos: With fall and the holidays coming, how about a show on: 1) various ways to cook a turkey 2) the difference between dressing and stuffing, and how to make 3) various fun ways to incorporate cranberries into your menu, beside opening a can of cranberry sauce. My dad liked to make a jello salad with - I think - crushed cranberries, pineapple, apple?, pecans and whipped topping; I loved it! Mmmmm...I need to find that recipe! 4) why are some apples better for cooking, than others And general ideas: 1) how to make pickles 2) how to make your own brown sugar 3) difference between the various milk products / how to make your own buttermilk / why recipes call for whole milk or low fat milk and how to adjust a recipe if you don't have the right kind of milk. For example, we keep almond milk and skim milk on hand. What might we need to do to a recipe that calls for whole milk, if anything? Whatever you come up with, I'll watch! -- Becca Klash

Thanks for the ideas! Some of them are already on our list (stay tuned!) and others I’ll add to the list now. 🙂

Actually, Doug’s grandma makes a similar cranberry “salad.” It’s his Dad’s favorite.

You certainly CAN do cookies in a cast iron skillet. You just had the pan too hot when you put the dough in and the flame was up too high. Have some patience and cook slower and it will work for you.

Perfect video! Tonight, at 1:30 am I'm trying to make cookies for my husband, who asked for some, and our oven isn't working either! So we are trying to bake them in the skillet ... and so far they look good.. but not done yet. Still waiting.

Just learned you can bake cookies in an electric roaster pan/oven. Have not tried that yet. Wonder if you could use parchment paper inside your cast iron to keep the bottom from being in direct contact with the skillet or griddle? Glad you tried all of these appliances so I don't have to although I may try cookies in cast iron with a parchment paper bottom.
