I hung a buck in my DIY cooler (also using the CoolBot) for 5-6 weeks...my wife said "Whatever you did to that last deer...do it again!". The meat was PERFECT! I normally dry-age deer for about 2-3 weeks before processing them, but that buck tasted AWESOME! 🦌👍

Thanks for the video. Most studies find that the meat reaches it's maximum breakdown in 18 to 21 days. I hang mine hide on for 18 days and then process. The amount of moisture vs 2-3 days is significant.

I’m bout 6 years in with my walk-in and coolbot as well. No issues. I hang deer (About 60 in 6 years) 2 wks minimum up to 21 days. No regrets.

I believe you said that it has a concrete floor. It might help with the moisture problem when not in use to seal the floor. Also, just install a screen door and leave the regular door open until it’s dried out. We are currently building our cooler with the cool-bot. I can’t wait to get it going.

Great video and thanks for the wench idea. Honestly hadn't thought of that while planning one out. Dad always just hung it outside and let it rest overnight course back then was always cols enough to do that. Beyond that it was always as fast as possible cutting it up and straight to freezer camp. Looking a little more at having a cold room year round untill I can get a root cellar built. Gonna see if I can encorporate some of this into it.

I find it strange that you leave the hide on the animal since I was a boy here in Diablo mountains of coastal California myself and family have always removed the hide completely and hung the deer at least 7 to 10 days hogs is the same and beef 31 days at 38f obviously every animal is cleaned extremely well we will also spray the outside of the animal with a vinegar water mix to inhibit mold growth if needed. No judgement though everyone does things differently and as long as it works for you keep on truckin

Dustin, thank you for doing this video. I have this in the works and have questions 😁. I too am limited to 110 and the biggest lg unit is 15000 but. I also want to build 8 foot wide 12 long and 8 tall . Store it cold reccomends the 18000 but it is 220. I hope and suspect the 15000 will do the job so long as the R value is met and there's no air leaks. Do you feel the 15000 will meet the need ? I know it will be an opinion and no guarantee .
@DustinApple

Buy the best cry only once. It's a capacity and volume thing. Better to over due it. Yes it would cost more to install a 220 plug but ultimately will cost less to run.

I’d never let a deer hang more than 3 days. You’re going to lose a whole layer of your kill if you wait to long.
@DustinApple
2 жыл бұрын
That's completely false. I've allowed deer to hang for 10days in the cooler at 38⁰ & it looked like the day I hung it. Didn't lose anything. But it didn't age either. 2-3days is optimal. But the cooler environment allows you a lot of leeway.

@@dirtykitchenkids1737 yeah. If I had customers I'd never allow that.
