Yep chutes are the best! If you have a big light Genoa then maybe you can get away without one, but there's something special about the massive colourful sail. And we're glad we've got a snuffer for ours too - especially in the Med!

Ok - first of all I know nothing about sailing. Been on one catamaran in Corfu, that’s it. But been watching you two for a while, and so so impressed with what you know. The heave too, is it, the dragging anchor, the sleepless nights, so feel I’m a sailor too - lol But just watching this wee set of moving from Greece to Italy and saw this, bit and though, oh that is clever clever, I saw you open the bag, hoist that up, then pull the shroud, is what I’d call it up and unfurl a new jib, just so clever.

The impression I get from y'alls' and Ryan and Sophie's & others' vlogs is that the Med is either becalmed in the middle or hacking Massive Hard Blows and Seastates 😁 Easy passages seem relatively rare.

Yep, unless you've got loads and loads of time to really pick your weather windows. If you're on a schedule it's a really hard place to sail. But we have had some wonderful sails in the Med.

Thanks Andy! Yep, we're getting more confident for sure. Kittiwake needed a light touch - with her shallow draft, she would struggle to stay on course if you pushed her hard. Skua just bashes on like a freight train :)

Happy days, fair winds at last. Nice to see you both happy and smiling and not wet and tired. Out of interest do you use your fuel polishing set up after every fill up at the fuel dock or just regularly? Not sure what fuel is like in the Med but I know there are some places in the UK that can transfer the bug to your tanks. Andy UK
@SailingKittiwake
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, we haven't been using it after every fill up though there's probably no harm in it. We've never had a problem with fuel in the Med though we met a boat that had filled up in Cala D'Or in Mallorca and had gotten the bug.

That's more like it. No plan is the best plan. Of course, have a general idea and direction 😎 Sicily is chockablock with history, you might make a few excursions? The Vulcanoe Islands are really interesting to visit, Stromboli is the best as it has a visible (from sea) active vulcanoe. Great you two enjoy the sailing.

You didn't pole the chute or indeed the spinnaker on you last boat. You don't wear a harness leaving the cockpit.
@SailingKittiwake

It is not compulsory to pole it out - as you can see we covered over 4,000nm without poling it out. Every crew make their own safety decisions - it’s their own business.
