First ever build in highschool was an fx6300, before that the best I had was whatever 200 dollar black friday celeron laptop my mom bought me a year prior which fell to pieces under my constant and pretty careless use. The shell was literally coming apart at the seams and the hinge was messed up. Had to play Civ 5 with the graphics so low the fog of war was just black and it was so bad I could barely play on standard map size so had to mostly play small. Was utterly blown away by the fx 6300, rx 280, 1080P screen (a first for me in 2015). Never played games without a lot of lag, I just thought it was part of playing games up until that point in my life.

Came here from your new video. I was expecting worse from your warning... I might not have touched the bottom of that cooler though. ;) That said it's clear how your channel has grown and improved! Around the time this one was made I had just bought a "refurbished" Phenom II x6 1090t for like $225... silly me thought I'd gotten a good deal. :p Live and learn. SIX CORES WHOA... never mind it was already a few years stale. At least it's as stable as a small mountain. Even thought it's antiquated at this point, it's still kind of cool in an obsolete-enthusiast-tech sort of way... (At some point the mounting bracket for the cooler broke and I had to zip-tie the thing to the board... oddly enough that actually worked...) Last week I replaced it with an i5 6600k and a cooler much like the one in this video... aah, much better.

Not a mistake. That's the only way you can orient the T4; up or down. I didn't want to be pulling hot air from my GC *through* the CPU cooler either. This was a very old build here on the channel.

I think Linus Tech Tips did a similar build to this one and it shows that the AMD components can run Free to play games( League of Legends, TF2,) and games like starcraft2 on ultra at 4k. Not promoting other channels just saying that you don't really need a super expensive pc to run games. My friend actually plays Fallout 4 on an Amd 860K black edition on a GTX750 just fine.

you can get an i5 4460 and a h81m plus, and spend 30$ more, but between i5 4460 and a fx 6300, even if overclocked, is REALLY BIG!
@MatteoZaina
8 жыл бұрын
you can even buy used 4460's for 140$. but look at that mobo, it's about 95-100$, instead a low end mobo with lga 1150 is about 50$. fx 6300 used+ mobo= 40+100= 140$ 4460 used+mobo=140+50= 190$ for 50$ it would be worth... and just to mention, i even did the "errror" to buy the xfx r9 380 2gb for 180$. i gave it back to amazon and i bought yesterday an Asus R9 280X Direct-CU|| for 150$, which is a bit faster and with 1 more gb of vram, which is very useful in games like bf. i've earned 30$ and i'm buying some new games with g2a. if i had extras 30$ for 200$ there were GTX 970 and R9 290... think about it

Looked at the video a second time and noticed that you put the original fan back on the heatsink. Is that because the 3pin color fan ran full speed on that motherboard. I have R1.02 of that board and it only supports PWM(4pin) fan control.

I'm still rocking a FX-8320 from 2012 running at 4.5GHz 2/47/365 as a media/file server and gaming machine with a HD 7950@1050/1575 and still runs great... I would NOT build this system now. Maybe a year or two ago yeah. A i3 skylake CPU will beat my old FX-8320 in a lot of scenarios especially if you get a motherboard that can overclock non-k CPU's (in that case you can even go with a 1151 Pentium!), that not accounting for SATA performance which is kinda bad on 990FX chipsets (there are new AMD motherboards with M.2 and NVMe btw, but that adds coast on both the motherboard and SSD). And the most important part, is that you can always upgrade the CPU to something much much faster if you get a Z170 board for about $80 and $100 for non-k overclocking. Only time i now see AMD as a viable option is FM2+ board with a A6-7400k which can be picked up for under $70 for the BOTH! and make GREAT office PC's.

You can get a better AMD system hundreds cheaper than this. I did it. I had no problem finding sales in many forms and solid rebates. This is really easy to do. Here is my price list with tax and shipping: AMD FX 8320 8 core OC to 8350 OC settings (same exact CPU this far into production $30.00 less) $104.00 ASROCK 970 Extreme 3 rv 2.0 free with CPU bundle and rebates. Free full new feature board. XFX R9 285 2GB Open Box sale and rebate $107.00 (same as a 380 but with newer GCN version and 40% improved memory management. Yes the slightly older 285 has the newest GCN and outperforms some 4GB rivals) With 600 watt PSU, 128GB SSD, 1TB HD, 3 fan led mid case. $125.00 $335.00 total. This rig will perform better than 75% of what most mainstream systems will and is much better than console game systems.

Its a good time to build a system you just need to wait a little longer. AMD has just announced its newest GPU available June 27th the RX480 for only $199.00 it performs as good or better as current high end video cards costing much more. Also, AMD is about to release its new CPU Zen to replace the very old FX line. You may want to wait for Zen as it will need a different motherboard than FX uses. It is 40% faster than FX CPUs. If you want to take advantage of the lower prices for the aging but still fast FX CPUs and current GPUs do exactly as I did. The most important thing I can tell you is this, in a blind test using the latest games 8 out of 10 PC tech experts picked the AMD $450.00 gaming PC over the Intel/Nvidia $1200.00 as the better system when asked about performance. They were both shocked and embarrassed. Bottom line is when you just use a system and ignore benchmarks the cheaper ones are just as good as the high end. You would be surprised how much of a scam high end systems are. I found the best deals at Micro-Center and I bought my GPU on eBay. I did a bunch of deal searching over a few days and that requires patience. It takes time to save the money take your time to spend it. I built it according to my needs and I am very happy with the performance. Now I can sell my current GPU and get a monster RX480 and plug it right in my system and get very high end performance for $100.00 more. The 480 draws only 100 watts under load so a second will be in the future for DX12 crossfire that beats a $700.00 GTX1080. When I am done the upgrade I will have a system as good as the best high end gaming systems for the same amount as the 1080 and it will be more powerful than it. This is not my video.

you placed the fan on the cpu cooler wrong way first time, then you went back and swapped it with the original fan...you should explicitely point out mistakes like this when they occur. people are watching videos like this to learn how to do things and this may cause confusion

It wasn't placed "wrongly," I switched directions later on so that the LEDs could be more easily seen. It had nothing to do with performance. This is a very old video on my channel, regardless.

+Science Studio was it blowing air through the heatsink and towards gpu? its wrong then, or not optimised in terms of air flow...watch the vid again maybe

+Mara Ganea It doesn't matter which way the air is blowing. The T4 would only orient top or down on my AM3+ board. You should read up on it. I'd rather it blow air downward to be forced out the back, then pull hot air from down below where my graphics card will be running very hot. Think about it.

+Science Studio right...funny though how, by the end of that vid, you switched it to blow up, contrary to what you're saying...im prolly missing something heh

+Mara Ganea It actually isn't facing the other direction, rather, I simply switched the fan location to pushing down rather than pulling down.

+Grande Kid Why do hate Amd ? i have an I5 4690K r9 290 and my bro had an i5 4690k gtx 970 and if but you on either on those rigs you wouldn't be able to tell the difference because perform so similar especially thanks to amd drivers now .My friend has a amd fx 8350 gtx 960 and it beats the hell out of consoles .I don't have a preference of team red green or blue it's just what works best along with my budget .
