I wasn’t able to make NYCC this year so I’ve been living vicariously through your videos these past few days. I appreciate these thorough tours of your experience. Most other NYCC videos are 10-15 minute cuts and just don’t bring the same “being there” experience as your full length videos do. I appreciate all of the hard work it takes to deliver these videos to us. It’s hard enough getting around comic con without the added stress of filming. Your dedication to your viewers is noticed and appreciated. I am so thrilled you won the original artwork. You most definitely deserve it Sean! Again, thank you for bringing me such joy and offering me the opportunity to get a slice of the action!

10:00 I would buy these ALL day, every day. I have that issue and the other Krigstein Piracy cover. And yeah, I actually prefer a lot of these titles--Piracy, Impact, Valor, Aces High--to some of the pre-Code stuff. Not only does it have the same stellar line-up of artists, but Impact #1 has Krigstein's "Master Race" which is considered one of the finest stories in the history of the medium. I got the full set of Impact from an Ebay lot a few years back for a little over a hundred bucks (in low grade), but I probably paid about $40 for that issue of Piracy in mid-grade.

Yeah I really like the post code EC stuff, I picked up up Impact 2-5 earlier this year (The Jack Davis Covers are spectacular) and now on the hunt for #1 because of the Master Race story. Because I am dyslexic I find reading EC comics so hard because each panel has a lengthy description of what is in the panel as if they described what the panel should look like and the artist would draw them then they would print the text describing it lol Just too much text, because of that I find The Master Race story to be super important to the medium of story telling in pictures and Its really high on my want list.

@@pop-comics That's a really interesting reason that I hadn't considered. It varies a bit. I love Al Feldstein but he wrote some incredibly text-heavy comics where it's almost funny how little space was left for these great artists to draw in. All the more odd since Feldstein was also a good artist and you'd think he would understand that dynamic. For Master Race, I think Krigstein had to beg to get 8-pages instead of the allotted six. It was hard to change page counts because EC had a standard 8-6--6-8 story layout or somesuch so once stories were assigned they were locked into that page count. Here's a short clip of Feldstein talking about "Master Race." kzitem.infosoMG7yULvCA Anyway, it seems like it would be a pretty easy book to find at NYCC or just in general. But of course it's also been reprinted a million times over (deservedly so).
@pop-comics

I think I also heard somewhere that the Master Race was originally going to be a pre code publication but because of having to make the changes it was delayed, then the code came out and it got kinda lost until the underground comics scene started to publish articles on its importance in the early to mid 1970s. 1st prints I think are $300-400 ish for a 4-5.0 copy so more hunting for an affordable one which has not crossed paths yet. One day.
@GodLovesComics

@@pop-comics Wow, I think my copy has tape on the spine (which is fine by me) but I only paid a little over a hundred for the whole run. I know the original art for the entire story sold for an enormous sum, although that's not a surprise. And yeah, Krigstein got away with some depictions of corpses that probably wouldn't fly under the Code in a different context. But the Holocaust falls under educational rather than sensational (like the horror titles). Anyway, I find it hugely ironic that some of EC's finest work came after the Code, which was largely dismissed simply because of the taint of Wertham and the Kefauver hearings. But the horror stories were never EC's finest moments anyway, it was the war stories and to some degree the science fiction, neither of which usually had anything that would have triggered the Code in the first place.

It was super cool, I was not filming that day so taking a video was a after thought haha but I got Mark handing it to me so that was awesome. I plan on showing it in the actual haul video. Its quite amazing to see in person.

You make my favorite content on youtube. You're so fun, knowledgeable, and nice, I really appreciate you. Here's a random question, I know you're into cute covers/comics, but I don't think I've ever seen you collects Lumberjanes. Some of those variant covers are the cutest. Is it just a matter of there being too many comics for you to collect everything, so there's always going to be blind spots? PS. I'm having pop walks withdrawl.

I am having Pop Walks withdrawal too. between Covid, then hurting my arm to catching a cold at NY Toy fair I have been out of commission. I need to work my stamina back up. I love Lumberjanes, I think I have most of them. Have to figure out what else I need to finish the set. But I think I grabbed most of the rare variants. Love cute comics like that a ton.
