Super power at Didcot Railway Centre as for the first time in 49 years two ex-GWR 6000 'King' Class 4-6-0s could be seen in steam together, newly restored no.6023 'King Edward II' & no.6024 'King Edward I'. It almost didn't happen as in the early hours of the morning 6023 blew a head gasket, but this was soon fixed and by the afternoon she was steaming away nicely. We start off by seeing 6023 raising steam gently in the yard next to Castle Class no.5051 'Earl Bathurst' who sadly cannot be in the steam as her ticket ran out in 2008, 6024 is seen running on the demonstration line and we take a quick look at the GWR Steam Railmotor no.93 who has now moved to Didcot from the Llangollen Railway. We again see 6024 on the demonstration line before returning to the yard to see 6023 move off shed to head to the turntable. She is turned about a quarter of the way at first to allow people to photograph and/or video her, 6024 is seen passing by in the background. 6024 is then seen shunting the stock on the demonstration line, she then moves off the stock to head off to the yard to be lined up with 6023 and 5051. After getting some shots off them together at last we move back to the lineside as 6023 and 6024 now doubled up - a combined tractive effort of 80,600 lbf - back onto the stock, they back up slightly so as to get a good run up to the station and they looked fantastic together. The last few shots consist of the pair running up and down the demonstration line seen from various different spots.
