This is a 62nd review of an Accessible Queen Room at the Novatel Waterloo hotel in Lambeth, London. Room 123 is close to the lifts on the first floor, and included a bathroom with walk or roll in shower, a pushed together double bed, and a view of, well, the backs of other buildings. I don’t usually stay in accessible rooms by choice, but on this occasion I was tired and just wanted a bed for the night, so didn’t argue. unlike previous occasions, I actually found that the accessibility features didn’t detract from my experience. For instance, there wasn’t too much furniture at Shin bashing height, and the shower was actually pretty well designed to avoid flooding the floor.
There were however a few things I wasn’t that keen on. The room came at a pretty hefty price of around £300, yet was sized more for the budget market. Every time anybody had a bath or shower in an adjacent room it sounded like the water was going to gush through my ceiling. And, my constant bugbear, the bedside plug sockets though well situated were really poorly designed, with a decorative surround preventing larger plugs from being connected.
Whilst the review is about the room I do want to put a mention here for the staff, who were really excellent. I usually try to find my own way round hotels, but they were gently insistent on helping me find my way, and were really enthusiastic and friendly every time we met. The staff in the breakfast buffet were also incredibly helpful and welcoming. The room was comfortable and pleasant enough for an overnight stay, but it was the staff who really made it
