*This little tile saw worked amazingly **MyBest.Tools** well with little to no problems other then the water reservoir being a little small. For the money it's a little giant.*

Nice video Susan. I wish I could keep my saws that clean! You must have an overflow for the excess water coming in. Good idea. You can really tell by the sound that the last blade was cutting much smoother. I am going to spring for one of those.

Susan... very nice, straight forward tutorial! Among today's over-narrated vids.. u get a gold star. Outstanding! Also, can you shave or cut off a base of a shot glass? I collect them and had one break... at the base... its shaped like a mini champagne glass u know.. so, I want to evenly cut the remaining stem and add like a wooden base. Thank you -Jim
@SusanMcGarryGlass
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Jim! I love gold stars. 😁 You can definitely cut off the base of a shot glass. I’d recommend getting a cheap one or two to practice on first. (Thrift store) And the key is LOTS of water. The blade against the glass generates heat and heat will break the glass. Water keeps it cool. You could put the wet saw outside and run a hose over the glass while cutting. To polish the bottom you would need something like a flat lap but it’s not necessary.

Just a little clarification on the dressing sticks. I should have been using the black silicon carbide dressing stick on this METAL bond diamond wheel. The white aluminum oxide dressing stick is best used on RESIN bonded diamond wheels.

Hello, before I ask this, I already know that I should use one of those stick scorer thingies, but I'm asking because I'm curious. From your experience, do you think one could cut, 1/8th inch glass or mirror with a diamond blade saw? or do you think it would just shatter or something?
@SusanMcGarryGlass
3 жыл бұрын
I do think a diamond blade could cut 1/8th inch thick glass or mirror as long as it’s not tempered. If it’s tempered it will explode.

great demo. loved your comment about spend money on good blades. i ask for help w/ a new idea ... you emphasize lots of cooling water. what i want to do is score a 8" length of 1/16" glass so it will snap/break into 2 pieces. with the big difference with what you do ... is to score it dry. yes , dry. the idea is that with a sub-mm score and a slow feed the heat buildup will be minimal via air cooling. have you any experience with this method ? also , not having a QEP saw , the first unknown is if the blade height can be set in the sub-mm range . failing that will a 6" blade fit the arbor ? lastly ... the 'score it dry' condition. the glass being cut is a 20x20cm 1/16" thick TLC plate for some chromatography work. and getting it wet will ruin the silica coating on its top side. i've had success cutting it with a hand tool with the 4mm hardened wheel. so that is the backup plan should the QEP saw idea effort prove to be unsatisfactory

I love to think out of the box but this may not work. I regularly cut glass with a dry hand glass cutter. No oil. That’s the easiest way to do it.

Could you use this to cut panes of glass like a table saw ?
@SusanMcGarryGlass
3 жыл бұрын
New England Yankee Living a couple of issues to consider. First, if you’re using a thin blade you’ll have to remove the blade guard so you can make longer cuts. If the blade is the same thickness as the blade guard or more the cut will create a channel wide enough to straddle the blade guard (hope that makes sense). Second, some glass is tempered. If it is tempered the moment the saw blade touches the edge of the glass it will explode into a million pieces. I’m sure you can find a video of that. It’s fun to see. Hope that helps

@SusanMcGarryGlass
5 жыл бұрын
ThatKidnHisTinny I don’t know. That’s something I’ve never tried. The first problem I see is getting the glass past the blade guard in the back. Unless you use a very thick blade that creates a channel wide enough for the glass to pass on both sides. But most glass is cut with a simple glass cutter unless it’s tempered glass.

intouch - really good question. The main reason I don’t get soaked is my source of water is not coming from the reservoir so I don’t get the usual spray. The Loc-y-Kit focuses the water very well. Also I usually wear a disposable drywall suit which helps. I’m wearing it in the beginning part of the video.
