Hi guys just a little tip on how to load and burn this gasifier. This is aka as TLUD design, TLUD means top lit updraw. I highly recommend filling the gasifier to the top put your kindling on the top and light it from the top. The holes on the bottom are there to allow an up draft or draw from the bottom and then adds o2 to the gasification process. All your fire is at the top and not actually burning the wood rather it is cooking the organic gasses off, turning all the methane and other greenhouses gasses off to be carbon that is released to then be sequestered by other trees. Thank you for displaying this product!

I was wondering the same thing! I have one of those Turkey air fryers that is built just like it with that double wall design and only heat come out the top and the sides dont radiate heat
@GaryGreenway
4 жыл бұрын
Nowhere near as much as a black steel fire ring. New brushed stainless has an emissivity of 0.30 - 0.40 whereas a black fire ring has a value of 0.80 to 0.95. The larger the number, the greater the amount of heat radiated from the surface for a given metal temperature. It will improve as the surface oxidizes and turns dull. The other issue is the cool air coming in the bottom, going between the inner and outer drums and coming out of the top to help as a final burn to reduce the smoke. This will cool the outer drum a lot reducing radiated heat from the outer surface.
@andysparks8245
4 жыл бұрын
I've used a very similar one, lots of heat if you stand over it BUT very little radiated heat from the sides if you're sat around it. It won't keep you warm on a cold evening like an open fire does.

I wold not go any larger than this model. You don’t get the good smokeless secondary burn until they are up to temp and mostly full of wood/fuel. The larger version takes a LOT of material to fill it and more time and fire to warm up. I have built versions of these(double wall, secondary heated air) 16”, 20” and 24”. The 16 and 20 run better/cleaner in my experience. The best way I have found to start them is to fill the bottom with small material, twigs, needles bark an inch or 3 deep, then build your fire on top of that. The fire spreads quickly thru the small material and they get up to temp faster that way. As soon as the bottom is fully alight, I start adding larger material, slowly. Add it too fast and you get smoke...

That firepit works as a wood gasifier stove. Once your fire gets going, the outside air enters those holes at the bottom of the double-walled cylinder, gets heated, and rises to exit the holes at the top of the inside wall as jets of air that provide lots of oxygen to cause the unburned fuel (smoke) to combust. In this video, you can see what look like jets of flame coming from those inner, top holes, because the superheated air is igniting the gases from the wood right at the apertures. With backpackable sizes, you use twigs and small sticks for fuel which means that in most areas, you don't need to pack fuel in, and it leaves almost nothing but ash behind. A company called Biolite makes a version that uses the temperature differential between the walls to generate electricity to run a small light or recharge your phone. The profits from domestic sales help to make it possible for them to get much larger versions (bigger than your pit) available to 3rd world, off-grid areas for more fuel-efficient cooking and power to charge batteries for lights at night, etc.

Just a quick FYI for the audience Mike. If you're burning a fire on your deck make sure there are no leaves under your deck. Sparks from the fire can fall inbetween the cracks and ignite the leaves. Pretty sure a deck would go up in seconds.

@rickylee3275
3 жыл бұрын
@@Renewedleadership Hello, Yes it gives off a lot of heat with little smoke. However it does not give off as much heat as open fire where you get more radiant heat. All this being said we love it because we can bring it up on are upper wood deck and easy to transport if you want to move it. What we do to get more heat is use longer wood and stand it up to make a pyramid which make more radiant heat and because it so hot under neath smoke is very minimal. Also to smoke it depends a bit on the wood. If you use pine or other softwood that has pitch in it it will smoke more. We are going to buy the bigger model for our new fire pit area on Our new circular patio. I hope this helps. Have a day!

That's a nice bonfire stove, and if had used my head I would have invented this. 20 years ago I made a stove just like this and still using now. I have a hunt camp and wanted something like this to contain the fire in so all I did was take the drum out of a old washing machine and bolted 4 leg's to it and it has been the best fire pit you will ever own. It has all the holes in it for washing so it draws and burns well don't know what the drum is made of but has never rusted or burnt thru, so if you can't afford one like this and it's for a camp just get a old washing machine and take the drum out.

I have owned a version of this for nearly 5 yrs. mine is called the flame genie. Got it at camping world. It’s small and compact so I can keep it in the Rv and uses wood pellets. It will burn conventional wood, but wood pellets are nice because most states ban out of state wood for disease and pest migration. Plus pellets are easy to store and less messy. Only thing is make sure to bbq grade pellets if you plan to roast marshmallows,

Nice looking fire pit. I made a "smokeless" one a few years ago using the spin tub from a old washing machine. All of the small holes in the tub give lots of air to the fire and the result is a "smokeless fire". It gives lots of heat and depending on the wood, very little ash. I have not used it for 4 or 5 years but it is sitting beside the woodpile ready to go. I have a cast steel fire pit sunk in the ground in the backyard that we use now. I am the same as you, like having a fire when I am outside.

I have both the Solo Bonfire and the BioLite Fire Pit. The Solo Bonfire doesn’t hold a candle to the BioLite Fire Pit. The BioLite radiates heat in all directions and not just upwards like the solo bonfire. In order to get warm with the Solo you need to practically sit over it or super close to get warm in cold weather. In order to get the Solo raging to produce a lot of heat you need tons of wood in it. The BioLite you don’t need much wood at all to get raging heat. With the BioLite when your wanting to put the fire out you just crank up the fan to the highest setting and the fire burns out in 10-15 minutes. Once the wood is all consumed the pit cools down in a few minutes. You can cook on the BioLite and control the temp using the fan speeds. It also folds up much smaller for packing. The Solo is huge and bulky and awkward to pack if space is limited. The BioLites battery lasted me for 4 nights of fires on one charge. If you keep it plugged in to the covers built in solar panel during the day you could get infinite battery. If you run the fan speed on low or moderate low the wood burning efficiency and battery life is incredible. After a year of using and tons of charges the battery still lasts for days. No signs of slowing down. Also the Solo Only burns it’s wood at one speed which equivalent to burning wood in the BioLite on its High to Max fan speed (there are 4 speeds; Max, High, Med, Low). If I just have the BioLite fan speed down to its Med or Low setting the wood consumption efficiency is far greater than the Solo. One last thing. I can also control the height of the flame using different fan speeds which is a pretty cool feature. Plus the BioLite is $100 less ($199). The bioLite has legs so you won’t Scorch the grass. My Solo creates a dead grass ring. You can’t put the solo on a composite deck without a protective barrier but you can the BioLite. Because the BioLite has forced air you can crank it up to its highest fan speed when starting the fire and get a raging fire in less than half the time as the Solo. The BioLite has handles so you can move it around while it’s burning. The Solo can’t really be moved once it’s going.
