It would be awesome if you used one of those cheap digital torque adapters (think AC Delco or Harbor Freight), cut the handle off the pipe wrench, cut out a 1/2" hole near the head of the pipe wrench, and used a 1/2" breaker bar. Then you can read the peak value of foot pounds needed to break the lock.

Great video, gotta admit I'm pretty surprised at how tough that master lock actually was. Can't wait to see you find one you can't break, even with the cheater bar! But, would it be fair to assume that if it passes the basic test with just the pipe wrench that at least in terms of shackle strength, it would stand up to most similar attacks you could reasonably expect to encounter when the lock is in use? 🤔

Me: Oh no LPL...#5 gonna win! LPL: Oh no hasp...Let me show ya something If we think it, we can do it here LPL: Twist and groan aloud when chain link gives slightly. #5 Not today, that all you got? LPL: I know my rig is sturdy and sound. Regroups, better stance for leverage, wrench a little harder. Not today #5! Finally #5 gives up the defense, but is impressed with LPLs superior rig design, proud it took new equipment to defeat him. Me: jaw dropped mouth open, eye flickering, forehead creased, wtf circles around the brain. Wait!? What just happened? For 20+ years, I was a retail manager. We had a big ass safe but that was for deposits and overnight storage. Wooden cubes, overbuilt like LPLs rig 👍with doors and hasps is what we used for daily operations. The lock was a #5 Master and we all had our own, once the specially ordered lock came in, it was yours to secure cash, up to $20,000 during the holidays. Do NOT worry, these are hardened locks forged with heat to defeat the criminals. We tried to cut one open, after an hour the lock wasn't even scratched...and so I believed! Until this gentleman came along, I'm addicted to his videos and I would say try to defeat the Master #5, pick it but not getting inside it. Give LPL about 3 minutes (he needed to catch his breathe, just a little) and before my eyes, on that glorious rig...it died quickly. My faith in this superior lock has been broken, and my belief was set in the hardened metal. Oh well, glad to know now, but damn that could have been bad. My only suggestion for the Glorious Rig (after reading some comments) is a bracket that would seat the camera facing down and over the action. We like the additional camera angle so we can actually see all the detail and work needed. Excellent work designing the rig, I'm not the only impressed one. I see the video is a few years old, I can't wait to see it in later, more recent episodes. Good job!!

i would, there's a couple hybrids in my collection that i believe are good enough for the low security applications i use them for... confined areas, tough bodies, and the cores replaced with that of their lockout/tag out locks, with the tighter keyway.the addition of even a few serrated pins and i'm fairly confident about them for the places i have them, and what they are gaurding, without dropping the big bucks on a "good" lock. however, i see your sentiment, and would agree that the average user wouldn't be in their right mind using them.

Now if you could only find a hasp that was as strong as that chain. 😂 Seriously, in 99% of situations where padlocks are used, that wrench will break the hasp before it breaks the lock body or shackle. My wife has a work trailer that she hauls from jobsite to jobsite, and it’s been broken into a couple of times. In both cases, they twisted the lock like this and the hasp on the trailer broke off. Hasp and lock were lying on the ground, with the lock completely intact and unopened, with the trailer door wide open. You can have the best lock in the world and it won’t stop anyone if the thing it’s locking is weak enough to be broken. 😔
