You my friend are are a godsend! Thank you for posting this awesome video for this very expensive transmission, which from what I see, can be torn down with a couple of flat head screwdrivers and a pick. You’ve given me the confidence to rebuild my own transmission, with a complete rebuild kit,new pump and torque converter for less than 2000$ vs 7000$ at a transmission shop and I know I’ll be putting all the new parts from the kit....bushings included. Great video!

One of the true rarities among mankind, a natural born teacher who is generous with his knowledge and able to see through the lens of those who do not understand, and anticipate what their questions will be. I hope you will do a C-6 build to go with your C-6 teardown sometime. I just built my first one, it seems to function just fine, and I'm working on a second right now while I have it fresh in my mind but I'm still working at the level of the what goes next and don't yet understand the why. It is only when I understand the "why this part goes next" that I really feel like I am assembling one correctly rather than blindly following directions without actually understanding what I'm doing.

I have enjoyed your videos and hope if you ever get out "of the business" you decide to find a good automotive college and decide to become a teacher and pass on what you have learned. I had teachers when I went to automotive college back in the 80's, and you remind me a lot of them. I can tell you love your work, keep the videos coming.

Good stuff man! Just ran across this channel and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am 62 years old and lived out the muscle car experience back in the day. Really appreciate your work. I see so many guys just slamming parts around. Yeah I can tell they know what they are doing, but when I get a trans back from a shop and the case and pan look like they were tossed in a rock tumbler it always makes me wonder how the parts inside were handled and installed. I don't work on may autos myself, but when the need comes up I search your video catalog to see if you have covered it. Watch the videos a few times then go for it. Or I use the information to determine if it is something I want to tackle then I use it to interview shops before I farm the work out.

Thanks, Hiram Just a tip for you guys, you can place your bushing in a freezer overnight and use a deep fryer with a electric temp control, Water will work just fine. Take your parts that are going need a bushing installed, heat them to about 140 degrees, then take your bushing one by one out of the freezer and install them. Removing them its the hard way as Hiram said.

Hiram, love your videos and the experience you apply when tearing down and inspecting transmissions. Your narration is spot on too. I have a question regarding the 42RLE. If a rebuild is done properly, what would be the expected life expectancy of the trans under normal driving conditions and no towing in a 2006 dodge Dakota SLT 3.7L RWD? Where is your shop located, somewhere in CA? The rebuilt that Dodge installed 4 yrs and 45000 miles ago is starting to self destruct. Thanks!

you explain taking apart and putting together a specific transmissions. I once tried opening one up but failed because i didn't realize about all the snap rings now i think i can at least disassemble some transmissions completely. I still don't feel confident enough to rebuild/reinstall internals of transmission like you but like to try some time. My main question is if you are already a engine specific mechanic or small engine repair mechanic what tools would you be missing for being able to take apart and put back together a majority of transmission types. I am trying to figure out if it takes a lot of additional tools an engine mechanic wouldn't already have?

Sorry to be unrelated to this video. Was wondering if you could explain in detail how the TCC works on the 4r100 with 7.3 2001. It seems to get heat soaked and will slip or unlock TC when throttle is given in OD. Next morning now issues and you can lug her right down in OD and pull like no tomorrow. No other shifting issues. Checked with autel maxi 8088. Thanks! Awesome videos m8

It would also be good if you did some diagnostic videos.. I know at the point you get your hands on a trans its going to be torn down to the bearings and checkballs but for the rest of us its good to know symptoms and whether something is a solenoid or a clutch pack.. before we order parts and get working
