Continuing the Birthday tradition, so off to Steve's to take a deadlift workout focused on doing 300# for a double. Starting in mid-December, I focused on establishing a solid base, then increasing deadlift poundage and slowly working towards a semblance of a peak. While I will still lift occasionally during the warmer months, I spend more time doing other activities, i.e., sailing, swimming, biking, hiking, paramotoring, etc. Covid 19 certainly hindered some activities. Even vacationed in the Dominican Republic and went scuba diving for the first time - on a "wreck" with lots of fish.
Steve had purchased some new bumper plates, so I decided to use them with some original York 25kg bumpers. It gives the look that I am used to when using my own bumpers. I think I peaked well this year without having to deal with any injuries besides the usual aches and pains. The first two reps went quite easy, so I threw in a third, and could have done another, but the objective here is to lift a manageable weight that limits the risk of injury. Get strong, stay strong, and limit risk of injury.
Every lift is a personal record when you get older. And, it gets harder to be motivated when the body doesn't respond as it used to. I think I peaked well this year without having to deal with any injuries besides the usual aches and pains. I had to focus more on the mental preparation to get amped up for the workouts necessary to get stronger. Found some new music to help with that. I certainly spent more time sitting this winter. Our winter weather hasn't helped. Too much snow at the wrong time for ice skating, and then it just melts. Not sure how many more years I can do this but might as well keep trying.
