Thank you for the suggestion; most patients do not want to share photos in the early post-op period; rest assured, they look pretty horrendous until at least the 2 week mark. I tell my patients that they will only start looking good and enjoying the results at typically around 1 month and will always look their best no sooner than 3 months. If a facelift avoids midfacial work and no anterior neck work, then patients can look good at even 1 week. However, specializing in advanced facial aging, those are not the patients who most commonly present to our clinic. We are prepared to handle all extremes of facial aging for eligible candidates, but there is a healing period that must be well planned out.

I had a friend who, in her 40s developed incredible deep wrinkles in her face. In the end, attractiveness has mostly to do with how you feel and your facial expressions.

and this surgery was only for the face and neck ? what happens to the rest of the body ? the arms, abdomen, thighs all might have the same loose skin because of aging. Even at 69 wouldnt it be worth a try to suggest a proper diet, exercise regime and maybe some supplements to "Build " back the collagen and the elasticity and reduce sun damage ? there are much cheaper solutions. like a 80 % raw plant based diet, consuming lots of nuts and seeds, oil massages as in a holistic approach. supplements like astaxanthin repairs damaged skin and eyesight. Collagen supplements brings back elasticity. Collagen supplements also come in combination of Hyaluronic acid and biotin for good skin hair and nails. she must be encouraged to have lots of fluids and natural antioxidants. These alternatives would have repaired the skin on her entire body rather than just her face. I would rather eat right than go under the knife. 69 is not too late to try these options. I am 47 but follow good diet, always been a vegetarian and take Vegan collagen supplements and antioxidant supplements. Not bragging but I dont look a day over 35. even my hormonal balance is great for my age. I am not even in the perimenopausal stage. just a suggestion for people who love being in the sun. try this. rub some tomato paste on your skin 30 mins before your exposure to the sun. the lycopene "Obstructs" UV rays and reduces sun damage. Astaxanthin supplements also does that. for people above 40 try 1 pill daily of Astaxanthin 10 mg with food. I can tell from my personal experience, it helps.

Yes she did Cheryl, this type of severe skin aging is called solar dermal elastosis and occurs in only 1-5% of patients, usually with lighter skin (Fitzpatrick types I-III). It is likely heavily influenced by an individual’s genetic makeup as well as, of course, extent of chronic sun exposure.

These results are incredible! She has smooth skin and a firm jawline! I think that the reason she doesn't look "young" (but what were you expecting, for a 69-year old to look 30?) is because of bone loss around the eyes. As we age, our eye sockets enlarge and our eyes sink in, looking smaller. And the procedures could not address that. If you cover just the eyes, she can easily pass for 50. And to those who say she looked 90 before, no, she didn't. She was very wrinkled, but wrinkles are not the main thing that age us. It's bone loss and sag, especially jowls. Notwithstanding what I said above about her eyes, she still had a great bone structure. And little jowling (not even visible in frontal view, go back to 0'32", you'll see). She certainly didn't look 90. Just a weathered 70-year old. And now, she glows.

The main thing is the nose and ears. 2 things that never stop growing. An elderly person will always have stretched nostrils with a long nose, and long ears. So some women will also get a nose job and ear lobe surgery.

I've seen 90 year olds with fewer wrinkles and less sagging. Heavy smoking and excessive sun exposure are skin killers. Better to take precautions earlier in life- stop smoking and use plenty of sunscreen or stay out of the sun entirely when possible and take a good vitamin D capsule.
@AestheticMinutes

We completely agree! However, this patient never smoked and did not have excessive sun exposure more than the average individual; this type of aging is largely predisposed to due to genetics and is known as dermal elastosis.

@@AestheticMinutes Thank for your explanation. That probably means that one or two other members of her family have the same kind premature of skin aging. It's a roll of the genetic dice. You really worked your magic on this lady but I don't envy her the recovery process. It can be brutal.

Why would you use artificial temporary filler and not the persons own fat, after doing all that work?
@AestheticMinutes
3 жыл бұрын
Great question; fat is primarily indicated for large-volume correction. Fat is thick and lumpy and poorly-suited for periorbital correction as well as correction of superficial dermal folds and wrinkles. Micronized fat can be injected for those regions but has very poor longevity. Hyaluronic acid is much more versatile and comes with a wide variety of rheological properties that one can use to customize the approach to each patient. Fat is excellent for volume correction of cheeks and temples.

You can’t judge plastic surgery from static photos. Ideally, you’d see the person in reality, but the next best thing is to see high definition of them speaking, laughing, moving, reacting. With and without make up. Then you’ll get a better idea if it’s natural or not.

Exactly, it's a shame the dissection before surgery was so thorough, but the after was a brief, small glimpse with a bright light shining into her face. The neck was clearly treated, but it's impossible to tell about the forehead.

Very interesting. I'm in my mid 60s and there are times when I look in the mirror and am not fully happy with how I look, especially from the side view because of my sagging neck. The thing that holds me back from surgery, is that as I age, I want to know what I'm supposed to look like. Plus, I remember Kenny Rogers before and after, and I always wished he had just stayed the same and aged naturally. He would have been so much better looking. Susan Lucci I think (just guessing here) must've had a little bit of work done continuously over the years, so there was never a dramatic before and after. Whatever work she had done always looked perfect. I recently began teaching my 4 1/2 year old grandson to do some photography. He really enjoys it. Anyway, (in my opinion) I looked horrible while pulling weeds in my garden. I was dressed in shorts and a tank top with my hair in a bun on top of my head and he said "smile grandma" so I did and said "how do I look?" He said "you look good!" I certainly did not think so when I saw the photo later, but through the eyes of the love of this little boy, his grandma looks good. Self-acceptance during the aging process is not easy, but I think worth it. I also let all my natural color grow out 3 years ago.

I have never understood why women do this to themselves, what is wrong with getting old and having wrinkles? I treasure each grey hair I have and every wrinkle. I would much rather have someone see my wrinkles then look at me and wonder just how many surgeries I had to look the way that I do. Not only that but there are always risks when doing these surgeries and treatments.
