Marion County Public Schools is pleased to broadcast the 69th annual Ocala/Marion County Christmas Parade live on television and KZitem this Saturday, December 9, starting at 5:30PM.
The annual event draws 60,000-plus spectators to East Silver Springs Boulevard, many who are already staking claim to seats days ahead of time along the two-mile parade route. This year’s parade is themed “Home for the Holidays” and involves over 2,000 riders, marchers, and other participants. The theme was suggested by Kalyn Long, a second-grader at Ocala Springs Elementary, who will serve as the parade’s Junior Grand Marshall. This year’s Grand Marshall is Karla Grimsley, the executive director of Interfaith Emergency Services.
Approximately 112 units including floats, marching bands, dance troupes, baton twirling groups, motorcycle units, and equine entries are taking part this year. The line-up also includes local dignitaries, military units, business owners, dozens of other community groups, and, of course, Santa Claus!
Parade commentators this year include 16-year veteran host Kevin Christian, Theresa Boston-Ellis and Suzanne McGuire, all representing Marion County Public Schools.
