@@RVBlogger Hi, yes I'm in TN, not very far from the Oliver Showroom/Plant in Hohenwald. We haven't visited yet, but have it on the to do list, as soon as we can find the time to make the reservation to go on a day that works. Busy time of year. We'd love to get our order in for the spring deliveries, so diff need to make that happen soon.

Fiberglass trailers are fantastic! Most often being sold many years later for what they paid new for them which is great, but most new buyers are looking for the lowest price. If your looking for the long dollar, and not the short dollar it's the way to go! Good luck trying to sell most RV's for more then what you bought them for.

We downsized from a large motorhome to a 2020 Casita SD and couldn't be happier. We didn't want a potentially leaky stick-built and wanted something that was easy to tow and that leave us with a vehicle to drive once we got setup at the campground. Yes, it is small, but it is amazing at how little room you really live in. So happy with our purchase and nice not to bring all the "stuff" we used to bring just because we had the room to bring it.

@@Erin-Thor Hi Erin, I think you are asking Kathy, but this showed up as a reply to me. You can see lots of owners including Kathy on KZitem, she has the twins. The factory and showroom for the Oliver's is in Hohenwald, TN. They sell them direct, and don't use dealerships that I know of, but they do have a list of owners around the country that might be close enough to visit to see one in person if you can't visit them. I know they have a campsite there by the plant that they offer by reservation, not sure if that's just for those buying or what. I know we are planning on getting the elite 11 with the twins as well. The smaller one is just as nice, but you loose the pantry and some counter space. Anyway, look the plant and showroom up, they have all kinds of info that's very informative.

@@delana6463 - Thank you for your response, it’s appreciated! Whenever a new comment is posted, it shows up in everyone’s feed who has commented. This one will probably show up in your feed only as it is to YOU… depending on the platform (tablet/phone/PC). Others may not see this, again, platform specific, because KZitem is throttling comments and notifications. Yes, I’m aware of the tours, location, and that owners who are willing will let you tour theirs. I’m not ready to buy, this is a 1 to 2 year out project for me. I’d hate to waste someone’s time, gas and energy if I’m not a serious buyer.

I have a 13 foot Casita Patriot, high axel, tough tires, I live in MT, lol, I have taken on roads where the only space to turn around (because it is a little too steep and the drop off is 1000 feet) was unhook and physically turn it, they are easy to manually push around. 2008, that sucker has been across this country many times. Full bath and the bed is kinda a big twin, works great head to toe for 2 people and 2 dogs, well, my dog was pushing it, we moved him to the floor, he is 82 lbs. These are so durable and I love the wet bath, easy way to clean, I actually took the bathroom door off and use a curtain for heat at night. I winter camp. Love these, love mine. FYI, other 13 foot owners, I took the table and cut it 2/3 and 1/3, so I can have small bench in back, or small table in back, or table in front and big bench in the back, really opens it up. i only had to install a new pole mount on the underside of one of the pieces. I haul with Volvo station wagon xc 70 only lose about 2 miles to the gallon, can't beat that. With the battery, I can boondock for 4 days, 1 shower but hot water for dishes, and plenty of power. We also own a 16 foot GeoPro, wheel fell apart first trip out, was a pain to get Forest River to cover it, but they did, other than that, solar is wonderful and bath is huge, the bunks, get the toy hauler instead, top bunk is useless and you could use the head room in the bottom. Would be nicer to have room to haul more gear instead of a bunk that isn't used. My closet had the AC, in the 13' you don't neet AC, camped in AZ 100 degrees, so I built a shelf and the bottom half is half firewood and half garage for the web thingies, lol, sorry forgot the name, so it doesn't float away.

Fibreglass trailers are a good investment. We made $500 after 5 years of owning a 1977 Trillium, We made $2000 when we sold our 2007 Escape 17b and I could make $5k if we sold our 2020 Escape 19. I got killed on the sale of our Forest River and Fleetwood trailers. Our box trailers leaked every day we owned them, our fibreglass trailers never leaked, easier to tow.

This was a fun tour. Thanks for everyone who shared their homes with us internet strangers! I kinda wish RV manufacturers took a page out of the boat and cruise ship cabin playbook, and did more collapsible bunk beds, where a top bunk folds out of the way for the day, and down for the night. I'm a mother of 4, yet we will likely never be full timers, so we just want something small that will boondock for a few days at a time, sleep 6+, and have a bathroom and kitchen so we can take breaks on our travels, without needing to tow a 40 foot camper. I spent a lot of my childhood on sailboats, so I'm used to tight spaces comparable these fiberglass campers sleeping like 8+, but having living and dining spaces, and sleeping spaces, and bathrooms and galleys (kitchen).

@@RVBlogger There's no exact model I have fallen head over heels for. For a basic, common layout, I like the T@B 400 with the hidden bunk, and Pebble, although my family of 6 won't fit in their current floorplans! With the tow vehicle we would likely use for a tiny light trailer, though, we could sleep a couple people in the tow vehicle with seats collapsed, if need be. I looked at a Bullet Crossfire 2870QBWE at a local RV expo recently, and it just makes me want to find an RV with a quad bunk bedroom in a lot less room. Kids loved it, but I'm the one who'd have to tow that monster. It's more trailer than I think we need, or want. Right now, if someone took the general layout from the 19' long interior of a Gulf Stream Vintage Cruiser 19TWD floor plan that has twin bunks in the front bedroom, and stretched it to the 23' frame, with quad bunk room in the front,, keep the split bath, and use the extra couple feet left to give us a U dinette at the rear, with a bit of a mudroom closet to the right of the door, and a slight increase in kitchen countertop space, I'd be lining up with my meagre savings. I do not need slides, and my family in general tends to convene at the dining table. So a big dinette is more functional for us. We could tuck four kids in bed in a quad bunk room, and turn the dinette into a bed when we go to sleep. Since we periodically have contractors out to our farm, it'd double as a guest house when we have a bunch of farm boys bucking bales or erecting fences out here. When we were walking through a bunch of Rockwood trailers at the RV expo, and their "pantry" or "walk-in-pantry" right by the door at the rear of the unit would make even a small space functional. A ventilated cabinet with room for shoes and coats would be excellent! I'm personally gravitating towards anything with a large solar panel setup as an option, and that already comes with sufficient holding tanks to boondock for long weekends with the family. (I went to school for architectural engineering, and have lived on boats and in tiny efficient European apartments, my brain thinks about tiny spaces all the time!)

@@RVBlogger I think a lot of us out here just need something compact that doesn't lend itself to full timing. I would prefer mine to have double axles for towing stability because of my location and our white knuckle road conditions, otherwise I'd have a lot more options.

Everything ages and also everything requires maintenance. That being said, with modest care, a fiberglass camper will outlast almost all other types of construction. Some believe the aluminum Airstreams are durable in this way. Get caught in a hail storm of quarter sized hail with both and the fiberglass camper will come through with no real damage. The Airstream will need the skin replaced.

I have the video on my phone and can't remember off hand, but hearing that they used to have an Oliver and found this one, I am excited to look at one for myself!! Thank you for all of the time you put into your videos.

I owned an '88 Casita King Sleeper. That was when they were built on Mondays and Fridays. Axle broke because it was way underrated...like 2200lb. Cheap was the Plan of the Day when they were built. Did we enjoy it? Ya we did. Kids were small and we made do. Pulled it with a '90 Mazda van. It did alright for the most part. Back then, Casita was only in Rice, Tx and then we moved to Wa State. I wanna say we got it out the door for $7700. Still can't wrap my head around these things costing over $20K.

I like the fiberglass and the 4 seasons category for year round travels. Haven't owned one yet although I was a full timer and Park manager all year for 6 years. Couldn't ask for better neighbors and I seen all the different rigs. I eventually built a travel cabin from from the tires up. Sold it. Now I'm looking. Gold prospector me.

I never get to see the inside of all these different fibre glass trailers, but holy cow, i’m stunned, it sure makes me love my northern lite truck camper sooooo much more in comparison! I got more counter room then all of these campers combined, i got a shower stall separate from my toilet, my dining table slides to either side too, and it’s not my bed! lol, and i got a ton of cupboards a coat closet too, a 7 cu -3 way fridge with separate freezer, that runs great on my lithium batteries for travel, a built in generator, stove, oven and microwave and a queen size bed and a residential size kitchen sink too, all in the back of my truck! I couldn’t see anything they had that I liked better. Yup Im just tickled about it too. Lol 🍻

There is a lot to consider, and I’m not sure what type of tow vehicle I’ll need to buy, when I figure out what RV we want to buy. Also, I understand tongue weight is an important factor.
@RVBlogger

Sounds like you will be purchasing both an RV and a tow vehicle. I think it's important to find the travel trailer floor plan you like. Then you'll know the GVWR and hitch weight, that'll help you decide what tow vehicles to consider. Thanks for watching our tour video and commenting Brad.

Mid-60s couple here. My husband still works full-time in sales, I work part-time from home.He has no desire to quit working 😮, thinks that men die when they retire 😢. I want to get out in nature and go birdwatching. We live in Florida with a fantastic park system. So we are looking at a compromise of him taking an extra day off every now and then. Sooo, we are replacing one of our cars. I am trying to figure what small camper would suit us. The tear drops just wouldn’t work with our present knees and joints. Maybe a Casita or a Scamp, maybe big enough to add 2 grandchildren in sleeping bags on the floor or bunks. The weight of those packed will tell us what size SUV/truck we need to get. Looking at a Ford Escape with I think a 3,500# limit. Probably not big enough. Or don’t fill water tanks until we get to campground
@RVBlogger
Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've started to do some good research. We always say only tow 80% of your vehicles tow capacity to be safe. The Ford Escape doesn't really have a high tow capacity. The Casita Heritage model has optional bunks. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@Nunya9876

I’ve recently learned the newer ford ranger might have a towing weight of about 5,500 lbs, depending how it’s set up. One of the most important things about towing is focusing on the tongue weight. Never fully max out a towing vehicle, as you’ll want to reserve a little of the “power” for climbing hills, and consider the weight of everything you’ll put into your camper when towing it. Happy camping.
