Another Amazing Vid! Something fun to note: Any of these pedals can be used with a mixer in a pre or post fader aux send with the output returned to its own channel. This allows for lovely parallel distortion, overdrive, fuzz and saturation opportunities. This is another gem to send on to our apprentices ❤💜💙

Ultra-metal is based on the Boss "Metal Zone", a notorious 'love it or hate it' pedal. It's actually incredibly versatile, but with that versatility come the freedom to dial in some really crappy tones. Many impatient users never get past this phase. In the right hands however, it also has the ability to dial in better high gain tones than almost any other pedal (by itself) of it's era. If you want to just plug in and sound good, look elsewhere, this takes patience.

Just got a cheap Behringer Bass EQ pedal to use with my synths, and it sounds great in line between the synth and a distortion pedal. Just a little mid-hump shape on the Behringer made my BOSS DS-1 sound better than it has ever sounded before with synths. Biting and cutting instead of flabby and farty.

Hello everyone ! I wanted to share with you my experience with the RD-8 and the UM300 / OD300 and HM300 pedals that I purchased: the UM 300 is very noisy in all its configurations. OD300 is interesting but it tends to reduce the attack of the kick, the HM300 tends to reduce the bass. I think they are made to shape hardcore style kicks but if you are looking to produce a heavy, dark techno kick while keeping the attack and bass... for me there is only one solution: switch through the microphone preamps of a Mackie mixing desk. I own the Mackie 1202 VLZ4 and there you get a hard kick that retains its attack and bass. It's my point of view. I think these 3 pedals are best used for CLAP, SNARE and TOMS.

Speaking as a guy who knows little about synths but a lot about distortion pedals I would definitely recommend that beginners stick to pedals with very simple circuits. I have a DS1, SD1, distortion + etc. I find it pretty easy to get a good sound out of those and they are all like a single opamp boost plus some clipping diodes plus a simple tone control. I also have more complex pedals like the Behringer gdi21, the metal zone, joyo California sound etc all very complicated circuits, and I find it really hard to get a good sound out of them. High gain pedals may sound Impressive but they often fail to compete with simpler designs in terms of tone quality and noise levels. Stick to stuff like the ds1, the rat, ts9, distortion plus, OCD, Timmy, fuzz face and all the clones and imitations of those pedals. Those are simple pedals with fundamentally good tones and will get you a lot further than huge sounding pedals with overengineered circuits. Of the pedals demoed here the to800 is probably the only one I could safely recommend as it's a basic circuit that doesn't screw with the signal too much besides trimming the highs and lows and some subtle clipping and it's probably the most widely copied dirt circuit of all time. All these other pedals may sound good in their way but are likely to have unpleasant and unmusical elements to the tone which will become annoying in the long term.

I have a UM300 on the way, so I'm a bit bias. I feel as though it offers me the most flexibility of the bunch, and if I want a completely dry signal when recording, I'll just switch plugs to my clean input. It took me a while to sift through countless overdrives, distortions, fuzz, and Heavy Metal pedals to land on what speaks to me, but I'm happy with my choice to expand my synths sonics.

Most of the pedals works on the TD-3, but I frefered Ultra Metal. Heavy Metal next after, but it sounds almost the same as the in-build TD-3 distortion, so I'd go with the Ultra Metal as an alternative choice for that instrument. The only one I really liked on 808 kick was the boost on the Super Fuzz. I didn't like any of them on the Korg. On the RD-6 I prefered the in-build, but the Super Fuzz and Ultra Metal next after. Then Heavy Distortion and Overdrive Distortion. So seems like I prefer Super Fuzz and Ultra Metal :)

Thank you. I want a pedal that's close to the stock TD-3 onboard distortion for my TD-3 MO. The MO's overdrive and FM are great, but sometimes I'm left 'missing' the trashiness of the stock TD-3 distortion. I think it will be cool to combine all 3 break-up sources. I've gone ahead and ordered both a "Heavy Distortion" and "Heavy Metal" pedal. Aside from my TD-3 shenanigans, it will also be nice to be able to break out with some on-point Entombed and Dismember riffs. ;)
@swanofnutella4734
Ай бұрын
Pedals recieved and tried out. The "Heavy Metal"'s EQ curve is simply a very different kettle of fish compared to the stock TD-3 distortion. I wasn't surprised. I got this for fun, more than to attempt a 'match". I got the "Heavy Distortion" pedal close, but still not a match. The EQ curve is still more 'curated' than the stock, even TD-3 distortion. I've ordered the seemingly discontinued DM-100 off ebay. Apparently based on the Boss Ds-1, I suspect it may have the circuit they actually threw in the TD-3. I also want to find and try out the Metal Zone I've had since I was a kid. (The Ultra Metal is based on that) Cheers.
@swanofnutella4734
Ай бұрын
I received the DM100. It's not right either. No matter where you sweep the tone, it has a much higher relative peak in the far upper gristle. Keep in mind I was trying to match the tone of the TD-3 with Distortion Amount and Tone both at about 3 o clock. It's possible that it's easier to match it at other settings, but that's kind of my personal sweet spot on the TD-3. I now suspect that Behringer did NOT simply throw a pedel circuit in the TD-3 without some personalized tweaking. In the end, the closest I got (with the 3 I've tried) is with the "Heavy Distortion" but the best I got took a lot of patience. I still want to find my OG metalzone and perhaps I should try a fuzz. I've not been a fan of fuzz distortion on guitar in the past, but maybe it compliments a TD-3 and better matches it's on-board circuit?

Thanks :) Yes I think there could be some truth to that. Shortly after the shootout I accidentally dropped one of the pedals. It survived the 2 meter drop from the shelf onto the wooden floor without a scratch and still works fine. I love phasers too!
