No love for the Renault 5 Turbo rally? It was mad and predated all of these.
@Ruylopez778
2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Far more pedigree than the 323, 106, Pulsar or Golf Rallye, driven by greats like Ragnotti, Sainz and Rohrl, and had its own one make series. This video just ignores Group B, even though the 'homologation specials' of that era were far more interesting. The 5 Turbo must have been one of the earliest turbo road cars also (after the 930).

Love the golf Rallye, had the privilege to own 2 of them over the years, using one as a daily drive for 7 years in the late 90’s early 2000’s, the second more of a show/occasional car, one came from a Wuppertal near cologne and the other from Shleiswig Holstein near the Danish Border! both were chipped and were around 220bhp which was much more user friendly A point you missed is that the Limited was a 16v version of the G60 configuration 👍🏻

Not entirely sure if it was a homologation special but always liked the bonkers less than a litre but supercharged and turbocharged engined Nissan super march otherwise known as a micra in England
@1DarkBaron

The Nissan March Super Turbo was what I heard it called. You are correct in the liter displacement. I don't think it was a homologation car, but you are accurate in saying it was bonkers. Thank you for mentioning it. Haven't thought about that car in years, back when Nissan was awesome.

Theres nothing pointless about a boost guage on a turbocharged car. This is something only someone that has never had a turbo'd car or has never had to rectify any problems with one. A very helpful guage for checking the turbo is working exactly how it should be. For example, I wouldn't have known that my turbo actuator ram is bent and the car is only boosting to 1.3bar instead of 1.5 other than for how it felt. A guage is more accurate than that and is very useful.
@greybeard27
2 жыл бұрын
A proper boost gauge is useful, especially when you've taken the intercooler off your GTiR and forgotten to reconnect the wastegate actuator hose and are wondering where all the power has suddenly come from, but a lot of early turbo cars had wildy inaccurate gauges with no numbered markings on them, or worse, a turbo light that would just illuminate with positive boost pressure.

Too much weird lag sensation between gears when driven hard through the gears, all three cylinder turbos do that. Ive driven loads, none were smooth, always a hesitation as if the computer cant detect pedal input quick enough. Only one to avoid that problem IMO are BMW twin turbos on the 1.5 three cylinder units. NA three cylinder engines dont suffer the same problems.
