What about mercury content of these foods? Eating them in quantities sufficient to get 3k mg. Fish roe and cod oil are exceptions of course... answer at 11:39
@gf1922

Dr Berry forgot to mention that DHA is concentrated most in the human body in the eye, brain, and heart. He also eluded to fish oil capsules not being as effective as we once thought they were. That’s because during the manufacturing process, the majority of DHA and EPA are molecularly changed to what’s referred to as the SN1 or SN3 position, which the body has a harder time absorbing and utilizing. It needs the DHA to be in the SN2 position. Eating seafood allows us to absorb DHA/EPA in the SN2 position. Can’t get SN2 omega 3s from plants either as they are inherently in the SN1 & SN3 positions. This is important because that DHA being in the SN2 position affords efficient operation of neurological function, especially when transmitting light information to the SCN in the hypothalamus (master clock of the body that signals the body for release of hormones as part of the circadian rhythm). If the SCN is off, chronic illness/disease tends to follow

Good article, still in last years have been consuming a lot of fish oil supplements and helped me a lot to elevate from 1 to 1.4 my HDL and halve my TG levels. Sure that could be also thanks to keto I started approx at same time, but when stopped taking supplements HDL went down to some degree and TG up. MCT oils added to that effect on HDL I usually had it around 1.6. Tested few years, keeping diary, doing monthly lab exams, ... have no doubt about. So I would not say supplements does not work (if one can't eat high quality fish for any reason). Still monitoring, but since I went carnivore it looks like my sensitivity to fish went down. Before I had histamine reactions after eating few times in a row fish, ... now for last month (and 2+ months on carnivore) I can eat fish daily (mainly wild salmon) and even 2 times per day. Monitoring mercury levels, so far very low. Still for now consuming also omega 3 supplements because I have stocked them. Later will see.

It may be very easy for you to get down all these fish but it isn't for many many people that can't stand fish. Fish make people literally sick sometimes they dislike it so much there has to be other avenues for those of us that hate fish.

I've shared information about healthy omega-3's with a family member with T2 diabetes and fibromyalgia but she says her GP advised against it because of hemorrhaging risk? I have never heard of that in conjunction with fish oils and omega 3 before. Is it a real thing? She has sky-high triglycerides and blood sugar from the ADA diet.

This is timely Dr. Berry. I ran out of fish oil pills about a month ago and just bought more 2 days ago. The brand DOES have a better ratio EPA 650 mg and DHA 450 mg. Nordic Naturals. Now I see your video and wonder if I wasted money. Very few of the foods you list are appetizing for me, but I have not yet tried sardines, so I will give those a go. By the way, this video was interrupted twice with commercials for the Noom weight loss thing. Unbelievable.

I’m very very curious, anthropologically speaking, why we evolved to need all these fish species when the current thinking is our ancestors are not from the coasts. I feel like we’re missing something . . .

Cla Gle - the fish mentioned are salt water fish, except for salmon once a year during spawning. I like all the fish mentioned, but if it wasn’t for modern technology safely transporting these fish to me in the Midwest, I wouldn’t be able to eat any. And yet, somehow my ancestors survived. I’m just thinking there must be another way to get these vital nutrients.

Will you also address the latest research that warns of heart fibrillations from fish oil supplements and the fact that DHA may actually negate the effects of EPA? Thanks. Can't find much about this at the moment.

Thanks for the video doc, but alpha-linoleic acid is just "LA" and is an Omega-6. ALA, an Omega-3 is alpha-linolenic acid. I have been mistaking my pronunciation for years and just did a deep dive and learned that the two sound very close, but we should make the distinction.

I've been having buttery eggs for brunch and this week I'd been really flat mentally and physically but the days I then had sardines, I picked right up. Watching this, I see that my brain needs it but I wonder if it really picked me up that fast or whether it was the fat?

How many anchovies would a person need to eat a day to get the benefits?
@pgjc756

I just researched it. He said we need 500-3000mg/day. I found that 1, 2oz can has 951 mg per serving for anchovies. So according to Doc....one can a day or so roughly...I am not a doc.

I'm 9 minutes in and I'm just trying to do Math in my head... then I'm hearing what I know already... New to me is Salmon Oil (never heard of it before) I used to work on an Oyster Farm so I am a Fan of Oysters! (Never had to bring Lunch on that job!) Currently I live in the self proclaimed "Shrimp Capital of the World" (Big Giant Joke... all the Shrimpers moved to Mexico) I still do have access to a lot of Shrimp ( you did not mention Shrimp!) ... the price difference between Live and Frozen is so small here ... mostly I go for Live or Fresh and it is as Fresh as it gets but the number of outlets is steadily shrinking w Govt + Regulations and the outlets keep shrinking along w the # of Fishermen ... frozen shrimp then becomes something other than Bait (which for all my life is what we have called frozen shrimp)

Dr., you mentioned 3000 mg as an optimal amount of DHA & EPA. What quantity of the 7 sources does a person have to eat to get the optimal amount?
@AlbertKingboss
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I believe that for most omega 3 sources, only around 30% of the omega 3 are EPA+DHA. I think what he meant is to get around 9g of total omega 3.

Seven best sources of food for Omega 6,and they’re all oily fish!! I’m doomed! I can barely eat the stuff when it comes in non-oily fingers with crumbs on.😊 I’m aware of the importance of Omega 6 so have been taking capsules but this has been blown out of the water now too!! My Mum has dementia and so I am at serious risk of getting that. Also I struggled to breast feed my two children and feel a sense of failure. On the upside both my boys, now adults, eat fish so there’s hope for them!

No one said that you should get Omega 3s on a plant based diet by eating pounds and pounds of vegetables but by eating concentrated foods like flaxseeds.A tablespoon of flaxseeds has about 7000-8000mg of ALA Omega 3s so make the conversion.
