I would recommend Diana Gabaldon and the Outlander series . They are big chunky novels , and are full of history , romance , intrigue and time travel . Don’t let the time travel bit put you off , they are definitely not sci -fi if that’s not your thing . But they are fabulous escapist stories , written with historical accuracy , and totally unputdownable . Enjoy .

I wondered how much sci-fi was in these books. I was intrigued but really don't like sci-fi so have put off picking one up...but you've convinced me to give them a try.

That’s wonderful, I’m sure you will enjoy them . There is a love story throughout, plenty of history that starts with The Battle of Culloden , and gives you a tremendous insight into how people lived back then . I have read the first 5 so far xx enjoy xx

I tend to save big books for a weekend "mini" readathon revolving around the book. Dune weekend, The Stand weekend, etc. I'll have some related food (interpreted very broadly), and watch smt related to it as well. If I read long books in pieces, it takes me years, because I never sit down and read for an hour in it. Since doing those weekends, i have been loving big books, and I cannot lie. Edit: pillars of the earth is on my list. As i reached my 150 books goal this year, I'm going to read larger books once my current books are read. I'm hoping to finish the lord of the rings in December. OR game of thrones. And I'll read brainless romance in between.

I really like the idea of thematical weekend based on a book with somewhat related food. I'm stealing this idea.

Funny intro! :) I adore big books (both fiction and nonfiction) as they explore topics in such great depth. My favourite positions for reading them is to sit in my library chair and prop them up on my mobile table (akin to a TV tray) which nicely slides snugly close at hand. Or I lie down and prop them up. :)

I'm a little ADD, actually more than a little ADD so I prefer Short Books, Short NOvels or Short Stories. I am trying to read ":IT" by Steven King. So far I am a little dissapointed, but I will keep on trying to give it a chance before I put it down and try reading something else like Maybe "The Prince itself by Machiavelli

Ok, confession - my friend Matthew Sturgis wrote the latest biography (2018) of Oscar Wilde, which clocks in at over 650 pages, and it is, I'm sure, absolutely brilliant. But crikey, 650 pages???? One day, Matthew, I promise - but maybe not this week!
