I watched an older video regarding kickback on tables saws. I have been going without the blade guard/splitter since probably the get-go on the saw, which was a gift from my wife maybe 25 years ago. I have dodged many hunks of scrap heading for the wall behind me. Given my age and experience I thought it time to re-install the system. I tried a long narrow rip with thin stock just to see if the pawls were doing their job. Yep!! Thanks again!!!

Stumpy, thank you. Thanks to ypur injury video amd Johnathan Katz mosses workshop injury video I was prepared for the injury that I got yesterday. I am an ex combat medic and did not have a workshop medkit, amd my household one was out of date. I spent the 1st week of this year updating both and preparing for the worst. Amd when it happened, I was well equipped and knew where everything was. I have pictures and can be more detailed in what happened and why if you wanted to know more for safety sake. Again thank you

Pretty easy mistake to make, I thought I took enough safety precautions amd then in an instant, it all went wrong. I was at my 2 hp bench top disk sander, taking the burr off of a small metal 2x2 square. I thought this is pretty thin, and I am not going to keep it rested on the table the whole time as I want to round the edge a bit. So I stopped and placed a small piece of plywood claped to the table so that there was effectively no gap for the workpiece to slip into. Needless to say that was still a poor choice and I should have used my hand grinder or my bench top grinder. The workpiece snagged and pulled it self into the machine ( still need to disassemble it to get it out) followed by my fingers. I lost both nails on my index fingers amd most of the skin from the tops of thoes fingers. You are right, the shock of what just happened clouds ypir mind and judgment. I have seen and delt with much worse as a combat medic and assumed I would be fine if something happened to me. If It were not due to you, John changing the importance of first aid in my shop, it would have taken multiple minutes for me to affect my own first aid or even more time to get professional help. I'll go back into the shop today and make some small changes I identified as can be better for next time.

$824 for the air filter mask! I'll shave my beard first! The Castle 100 pocket hole machine is $399 (from the Castle site) but the Kreg Foreman is $449 so that's a good deal, depending on how hard or expensive it is to replace or sharpen the cutter. Awesome channel... clear, concise, no music!! You know yer stuff and present it in a perfectly humble manner - love it! I have a question about the castle 110 - which seems wont be available til Fall :( I built corn hole boards outta 2x4's and 1/2" plywood for top...i use pocket holes to join the 2x4s to the plywood top so no holes/screws are visible on the top... this method is tricky and setup is crucial so as to avoid any screw 'poke thru'... I have a harbor freight pocket hole jig that is adequate at best... Ive build 10 or so sets using this method with pretty good results... however, lately im frustrated with the terrible looking and hard to deal with tear out... QUESTION: do you think the castle 110 can be use to create pockets on the 2x4 so i can secure the 1/2" plywood top to the 2x4s? Thx in advance for any guidance and please keep up the great work!

I sometimes work with some nasty stuff and I felt more comfortable with the NIOSH rated system. The unit is much more comfortable than I ever imagined it could be. WOW I get the feeling you want us to refinance our homes LOL All these tools and accessories are great ideas. I really like that band saw companion, but here we are 2 days after you uploaded this video, and they're already sold out. Fortunately, they do have a notification list we can add our name and email to. That Trend Airshield Pro is definitely going very high on my wish list, and those Carter turning tools AAAAHHHH, I need to win the lottery. There's another tool that I have recently purchased to have as another hobby, as if woodworking wasn't enough, maybe you and some of your subscribers might want to look into this. I bought a 3D printer. It's really great for making accessories for your various tools. It can make adapters for dust collection, or a way to clamp your Dremel to your bench or table, and use it like a mini bench grinder, and sooooo much more. I'll give you an example, I bought a Delta Cruzer miter saw, and none of my dust hoses would attach to it. I found a file and printed an adapter that allows me to connect the saw to my shop vac. You're really only limited by your imagination.
@osufwiffo

Two thumbs up on the Delta Cruzer hack, sounds good to me. On the cost of things, I think he's trying to make a point of getting more to the "When it's time to get serious, and your tired of XXXX annoying thing, that drives you nuts, save up for this because YYYY". Example, as a guy w/ Glasses, I 100% feel the pain of masks and fogging and bad fit, so the Airshield one, yes this sounds well worth the $$ because of the hours of pain in the butt.. i mean face I've already dealt with over the years and Covid-19 has made issues w/ masks just so much worse. Especially at the beginning, when regular dust masks, that wouldn't save you from a Virus, sold out everywhere near where I live. Talk about annoying.

Can you explain the not exhaling into the filters on the Trend Air? I'm not sure what you mean here. Every respirator I've ever seen has air coming in through the filters, which you describe as positive air pressure. Then is exhaled through a one way air valve. Ignore the above... just leaving it there for others that may of had the same question. As I am writing this, I looked up the product description and see what you mean by positive air pressure. What wasn't clear in your description is that there is a powered fan sucking in air through the filters to create the positive pressure.

I like the extra handle weight. As for longevity, I suppose that's very tough to test. M42 steel is highly regarded in the tool industry. Both can't be right, but both insist they are :)

@@StumpyNubs maybe one uses their lathe tools in more of a scraping style and the other in more of a shear cutting style? Also, the differences in the woods they turn, the speeds they turn at, if they turn live edge (full of dirt and silica) or only clean wood, lots of variables in turning that may treat one tool differently in one shop vs another. The difference in steels may react differently when applied to the craft under different circumstances with different variables.

@@StumpyNubs M42 usually will last significantly longer than M2 because the greater concentration of molybdenum makes M42 resistant to softening even at red heat. But what most people don't realize is that wood also has mineral content from the soil it grew in. Different woods have different mineral content, and depending on how abrasive that mineral is affects jow long that tool keeps an edge.

Love the idea of the Castle 110 vs. Kreg but it's not as well supported and based on the videos I've seen..just seems awkward to use for anything bigger than a picture frame.

It works very well so all sizes. I showed small and large in the video. Medium pieces can also be easily supported by connecting a couple scraps of wood to make a "leg" which can be placed on the bench top and used to help support any long piece.

I expected the Castle to be way more expensive. Not bad.

If you want recommendations on a vacuum cleaner, I really like the Shark vacuums. Used a decent Bissell, vacuumed a bedroom in 4 passes (north/south, east/west, and 45° diagonals), then had a professional carpet cleaner come in. Used a Shark on it afterward and emptied the cannister TWICE.
