From Grateful Glamper: Put a label with your vehicle's height & weight rating on your dashboard aligned near the speedometer. That way the info is quickly & easily accessible for low bridges and weigh stations. I give that tip 5 stars! They also use the app-linked temperature monitoring to protect their pets. Thanks for yours, Tanya & Dave, they're great, too. 💖

Great video! It's always important to prioritize safety and avoid dangerous situations while RVing. As an outdoor enthusiast, I highly recommend having a reliable backup power source like the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. Its massive capacity, powerful output, and fast recharging capabilities make it a great choice for keeping your devices and appliances running during your RV adventures. Stay safe and enjoy your RV life!

There is another item you should make sure to do! I am speaking from experience. I live in the areas where all the Snowbirds come to spend their winters in the desert. I can't count the number of times I have seen RV and/or motorhomes driving down the highway with compartment doors wide open. While traveling on the 2 lane Highway 95 I even drove in the oncoming lane next to the driver of the motorhome, honking my horn and pointing to the open compartment door. HE IGNORED ME and would not stop or even check his mirrors. The compartment door was on the passenger side of the vehicle and the type that raises up, not opening to the side. I tried for miles and miles to get his attention to let him know his compartment door was open. I drove in front of him with my arm out the window, pointing over my roof to the passenger side, and then to him to let him know something was wrong. Stuff eventually started falling out of the compartment. I gave up when we got to Quartzsite and figured I did my best, but he made the decision to ignore me (I'm an old lady so I am definitely no threat to anyone), so he would have to suffer the consequences. I have noticed people pulling trailer/5th wheels with the tires split and beginning to peel. I try to alert the driver to prevent further damage, but instead they flip me off or what appears to be telling me off. Anyway, if someone is trying to get your attention, pull over in a safe place and check out your rig. There are those of us (I used to be a cross-country truck driver and later a line haul driver) that are looking out for your safety as well as the other drivers on the road.

One item on my checklist when I go boondocking is when everything is stocked up including fuel, fresh water, propane (if applicable), and a fully emptied holding tank(s) is to get it weighed at the nearest truck stop scale. If they have a split scale where you can weigh the front and back separately is big plus. Not only you know that you're not over the weight limit, you know it's balanced between the forward and rear axles. Another best practice is anything that you're gonna bring onboard, you're willing to give up or give away no matter how big or small the item is. Things can add up really quickly and get out of hand not knowing its happening. For a nominal fee at the scales help keeps things in check and safe travels to your next adventure.

Most importantly, don’t forget to secure your pets when you’re driving. If you’re buckled in, they should be too. Remember when you’re in an accident and your pet is injured, you’ll be at the hospital getting treatment while your pet is dying at the scene waiting for animal control. I’ve worked claims for over 20 years, it is so insane to me people don’t put their pets safety as a priority. 🥺

Such a painful image - but thank you, thank you, thank you for stating it in such a way that maybe will wake up a few folks to the inconvenient reality that pets are live creatures with mass that can fly around, just like an adult or a child. Buckle them up, or put them in a container that is secured.
@jennifert9506

So true, a friend of mine worked for animal control and would often be called to the scene of an accident to secure a frightened pet who was running down the side of a freeway after an accident. Put them in a secured location. It’s safer for the driver and the pets. A hard sided crate secured to the rig will give them hard sided protection and ensure they don’t bolt down the road amidst the chaos of a crash.

Regarding the height of your rv, it also fluctuates with the amount of air in your tires. Overinflated tires add a few cm of height so definitely hedge and assume your rv is a bit taller than advertised in the specs.

Seatbelt or crate your animals while on the road. I say that because I have seen animals fly through the front windshield when there's an accident and a small animal that's even 5-10 pounds can become a projectile that can decapitate you. The front seat there's airbags you want them where they're going to be safe. You never want your furkids to get hurt. That being said I just got a waggle and I was wondering your opinions on it. Mine's not installed yet so that's why I'm asking.😊

When we travel from the west coast to back east, we dont rush period....Takes us about a week or longer to just reach Indiana to visit family...To cut costs we dry camp at various places to save $$$ camping fees...Casino's, rest areas, Walmart, Cracker Barrel....We also have to eat while traveling so turning the fridge off and on every day while traveling does not work...Neither does stopping to eat someplace twice a day $$$$ wise...This is why the propane is on in our rig when traveling...,

Regarding the bumpy roads: If you find you MUST drive down a bumpy stretch of road to get to that really fantastic boondocking site, just drive really slowly. Chances are good that there is very little or no traffic on such roads, so you won't be inconveniencing anyone behind you. So why not just take your time? Your rig will fair much better that way, and you still get to stay in breathtaking out of the way places.

using propane. Just because your fridge runs on it while in motion, I think you're supposed to start the fridge to get it cold as most RV/campers are so very slow to cool -- while in the driveway the day before. Then when in motion switch it to the house battery to maintain the cold - but several folks don't do that

let's talk about tires a little more: 1. Speed rating IS very important. Since RV tires are normally working under greater loads, it is imperative they will stand the speed, weight and heat build-up for hours on end. 2. Pressure is self- explanatory. Check them often and only when they are COLD. Not after you've driven an hour to the next gas station. 3. Balance, How many people actually balance the tires on their RV? Especially trailers? 5th wheels pull so much more comfortably and have less tire wear if kept balanced. 4. For dual wheels, the tires must not touch each other and cause friction and related problems. Before departing your camping spot check for anything stuck between the tires; stones, beer cans, dirt clods or small animals. I enjoy your videos immensely. Y'all stay safe.

You should always include a check of your components secured to the outside of your rig prior to hitting the road. Bike rack, kayak rack, spare tire mount, anything else you have mounted to the exterior. The vibrations of the road can loosen fasteners. A spare tire coming off your rig can easily kill the person behind you. Almost lost a set of grandparents from a spare tire not secured to a boat trailer, they lost a close friend in the accident, we were lucky they were only in the hospital a couple of weeks.

Great info! Had to laugh, I was guilty of some of these... But not the propane. When I first started and took a class with escapers The guy that taught fire safety said. You have 20 seconds to get out of your RV if you have a propane leak. I took that seriously! My mentor when I first started told me to always make sure I had a checklist. She even printed one out for me and said useless every time before you take off from a site... Take nothing for granted. The one time that I didn't use it. I had stuff falling all around in the shower. I even had a drawer, slide, open and stuff falling out of it that I hadn't latched securely. Checklist I lived by it after that.

He wears an air tag but have thought about adding a GPS tracker as well but they seem cumbersome for a 10 pound panther! Would like to learn more about waggle. From experience those measurements on over passes could be wrong. The measurements are painted when first built. If additional resurfacing has been done it could be way off the height posted. If not sure use a spotter. If you go to far and start to scrape, deflate tires and exit with the least amount of damage.

Check your tires yearly on your Rv's. We were on the road and we had a blow out on the freeway. Had the tire replace and took the fifth wheel in for new tires all the way around. The guy said since we only use the fifth wheel once or twice a year even with how much tread we still had on the tires that the tires had dried out a bit even though they looked good, it effected the wear of the tires. Hubby thought they still had a lot more miles to go they werent that old. Well we now make sure are tries are safe and road worthy. Lesson learned.

I did the last one. I was late getting out of camp, just a few minutes, and a group of guys were coming around to help or mock, or harass, whatever. It made me anxious to get outta there in a hurry, so I didn't thoroughly tighten my tow hitch before driving away. Apparently the first high bump took out my little wheel connected to the tow bar. Now I don't have a wheel. I tow a 6X8 camper. It still tows fine, but if I want to unhitch I better have a leverage of some kind in order to bring up the hitch high enough to unlatch. Otherwise I tow wherever I go. At first I didn't know how to unhitch, until someone showed me how to use a make shift leverage. The camper with the tow wheel attached is designed to be able to be pushed or pulled around. Not having the wheel just makes it more inconvenient when maneuvering. In spite of the lack of flexibility, it is less to worry about while driving questionable bumpy roads. I don't have to worry about loosing something that isn't there.

I never leave my RV with water pump or city water on. I do not want to risk coming back to a flooded unit. I also never leave my RV with the propane on. Reduces the risk if you have a sudden leak or your neighbor has a fire. Check all your wire connections. I never leave a wire connection without added electric tape for security. I had a customer where the wire nut on the water heater came loose fried. I cost him 200 for cord and labor when I was complete.

Well, even if nothing's said or if I'm not even acknowledged, at least I said something. Those who take their furry friends should be especially aware of these dangers. While some may never have such encounters, which I hope it doesn't occur, the dangers exist. Wildlife smell food miles away and now we're living closer to these animals. Lately, there has been an uptick in these encounters. I sometimes worry about not just you but all you tubers whose main subjects are camping & hiking. Just be aware. Don't underestimate the risk.

Thanks for highlighting the potential dangers of wildlife encounters. We do think about that as well and bring different forms of protection with us since we do love getting off into the woods together alone!

What about lighting a scented candle inside your RV? Our friends do it, we turn the propane off but it still worries me!

Used to drive various fleet trucks & I’d always post the clearance (+ a couple inches) on the windshield. My biggest fear was getting wedged in an underpass. & yeah, turn off those propane tanks. Also, never take them indoors.
