People spend one to two hours a day... man ... I’ve been spending 4 hours every night before bed scrolling my social media and watching videos I don’t even care about... plus all the hours I spend during the day. It’s frightening how you can become addicted to the feeling social media gives you. In a way, it makes you feel less alone. I like to listen to videos all day long, so it feels as if I had a friend over speaking words of wisdom. Ugh, I’m such a mess with the social media addiction !!!! 😠

Oh my gosh, I was also thinking, "2 hours?? That's the version of me who has their shit together!!!" I sympathize. I'm in a true rut myself because I've been around the "social side" of the internet for 16 years now, since I was a teen. It was forums and MSN at first, now it's Twitter and the like... I hardly know any different other than the short-lived periods of me trying really hard, so breaking such built-in habits takes so much willpower. Good luck to you!!

I think that if you utilize media in your benefit there is nothing wrong with having more than a few or more hoursof it per day. I have been off social media since the beginning off this month (besides youtube obviously). People say they can't but you can. So many people live with out it, why can't you? The first week I would pick up my phone to scroll through Facebook, realize I didn't have it, and went and did something productive. I also have had more improved self esteem, since now I am not constantly comparing myself to insta models and everyone who Im not. I understand some people use it as a platform to help their careers, and that it may be different for them.

To anyone who's looking for a good alarm clock app for their phone, I would recommend alarmy. It doesn't have a snooze function, which can be frustrating at first but is beneficial to your health in the long run. It lets you choose whatever music or sound you like for the alarm and also lets you set a a specific task that you need to do to turn the alarm off in the morning. For example, there's an option to choose a specific number of maths problems in order to turn off the alarm (you can choose the difficulty) which will improve mental maths skills. There's another option to scan a qr code or barcode in order to turn the alarm off- you could put a recipt with a barcode on it at the opposite side of your room so you have to get up straight away rather than lying in bed procrastinating or going back to sleep. There's also a lot of other options; I've been using it for a few months and it's a complete game changer.

I can really attest to the comparison habit! There's a girl on my uni course that I compared myself to a lot when we first started. I'm on a music course and we're both singers and one of the first performances we were in had me questioning why I was there because I kept looking at her and thinking I'm never gonna be as great as she is. However, at the end of the performance I told her what a good job she did and that we should get together for practices etc. and she's now one of my best friends and we constantly play off each other now and I'm all the better singer/performer for it! You also realise when you stop comparing yourself to someone that they have just as many insecurities and flaws as you do just maybe in different ways.

That way I’m less frustrated and they learn to accept responsibility. I think I’m doing better now, but it’s a tough mindset to get out of! It took me until my late 30s to squash the sorry bug, it's really insidious! I also repeatedly ask other women to stop apologising to me for things that aren't their fault ('sorry the weather's so bad! Sorry, but do you have the time etc etc). Most often I replace it with the word 'unfortunately' - especially in emails. It conveys empathy for the issue without taking responsibility when it's not yours to take.

I use the screen time to limit my social media to only 2 hours a day. I mostly use it when I'm bored at work between customers, but the limits have definitely helped me in my goal of spending less time mindlessly scrolling through feeds. I also use the feature to shut down all of those unnecessary apps from 10p to 10a. My productivity and focus in other things has definitely been affected in a positive way! Now the snooze thing....I'm definitely a work in progress there. I really want to overcome it so I'm glad you mentioned it.

I totally related to the "stop apologizing" one. That is me, in a nutshell. And it's sad because most often than not I really have no reason to apologize. I think growing more comfortable with myself and confident has already made a big change on this but I still have a long way to go. By the way, just a note, I really like that you're making longer videos Muchelle! You've always been very concise with your points which I liked but because, frankly, everything you say is so interesting and relevant I couldn't be happier that your videos are now slowly growing bigger. Nice job regardless! You're inspiring :)

Omg the saying sorry thing- literally everyone in Canada does it! I really wanna stop but I feel impolite not saying sorry even if it’s not my fault at all (e.g. someone bumping into me), it’s just so ingrained into the culture here
