Just an FYI for all my DIYers for the oversized art - canvas' can be expensive so think outside the box - look at clearance options or maybe you have extra drywall in your shed - you can use anything to paint your large art piece even a cardboard box could work! If you have extra wood pieces - maybe stretch your fabric over your own make shift canvas? I live for doing things even cheaper than "cheap" 😆

As an artist I like to throw in that canvas sucks, sometimes the frame gets so bent and crooked that there's no salvation for them. Plywood is the way to go, even my high class artist friends paint their stuff on it. It's sturdy and safe for shipping. Also it's extremely cheap lol

Yayyy to silver and chrome!! Brass fixtures were all the rage in the early 80s. Shortly after that, brass went out and nothing dated your home quicker than brass fixtures (including lights). Silver and chrome are timeless.

I remember the first house I decorated when I moved to a new town in 1999. It was a late 1880's house and I thought brass would be so appropriate. I could only afford to do it in a couple of places so I did brass faucets and brass framed shower in the main bath and brass faucet and brass paintable wall paper on the ceiling in the kitchen. Guess when brass fell out of popularity--about five years later! Brass was cheap, as you note here--sort of stale and saturated. The all brushed nickel look seemed so novel and cool (i.e. non-warm as Kiva said here.) Now in this popular cycle brass is now classy again. That may last for a few more years yet, but this video and others I've viewed recently lead me to think it could go out sooner than I thought. What will be next, a return to silver/chrome as Kiva says here or will black (or oil-rubbed bronze) be the fresh look or maybe something we can't imagine right now? Same thing with kitchen cabinets. I've lived long enough to see them cycle between light wood (oaky) to white to cherry wood and now back to white again. I've watched "House Hunters" long enough to have heard "Oh I hate white kitchens" become now "Oh I must have a white kitchen!" (And I haven't even mentioned laminate to stone to quartz, ceramic tile to subway tile, black to white to stain-less Some trends are so short-lived that I've heard of one woman who has redone her kitchen five times in less than a decade.

I love to hear young people talk about style. For the last 50 years my daughters have been telling me, “this is in style and oh mom that’s so out of style”. I have always just put what I loved and of course could afford in my home. both silver and gold, large or small, and as many plants as possible, if It made me and my guests “comfortable” then that’s what I decorated with. It doesn’t matter what’s in or out what matters is what makes you happy and comfortable. That’s why we call it “home!”

I think I'd like to see trends being taken with a grain of salt. If a new trend speaks to you great, but if you're only buying into it because it's new but doesn't really reflect you and YOUR style then I'd like to see more people just ignore it. Don't get me wrong, I understand trends have their place, they play a role in our lives, I just think people jump on the trend bandwagon way too quickly without much thought, and that's what I'd like to see change. That being said, I like what you shared here, especially about the giant modular couches, rounded edges, and vertical space. Thank you for another great video.

I beg to differ regarding chrome and silver. I only enjoy them in the bedroom as their color soothes the eyes and the mind and make you fall asleep easily. On the other hand, it is livelier when you have gold and brass in the living room, and in the bathroom. You tend not to sleep in those rooms, and at least, this works for me. What I want to see in 2022 is a marriage between warm gold and nickle. Also, Champagne silver, like that of Caracole, for everyone.

I have a trick to prevent crooked wall hangings. Put a small Command strip on each corner. (not the velcro one, just the small double sided ones) After you've put the art on the hook on your wall, peel off the other side of the Command Strips. Use a level to get the art level, then press the art against the wall until the Command Strips. You can even pull the art back off the wall if the frame isn't level after you do a second check. After a day, the Command strips are secure, and your wall hanging is level! Even if the wall is banged on, the Command Strips will hold the wall hanging in place. No more crooked frames!!

I bought a house 2 years ago, I like minimal. I had the opportunity to decorate and remodel my small home top to bottom. And I went for function and calm. I needed my home to be my sanctuary. My wall are blank except for 1 oversized painting I fell in love with and I can't find anything else. I change out my pillows and sofa blankets according to the season, I live in Illinois. But I think I fell victim to staying within my winter color palette. My wall colors are morning fog from Sherman Williams ( totally recommend for the perfect cool tone grey) and light cream linen. I painted my door a slate black, and white decorative pieces. Now I'm finishing up my laundry and don't know what color to paint it. I really don't want to match it because it is a small space and want it to pop slightly. As far as my bathroom I decided to do a complete mosaic tile wall to make my only bathroom pop. Any advice?

Something was that I was told was that if you find an art piece you like, but you can’t afford the oil reproduction or canvas print, try looking for it as a poster in the size you want. And you could dress it up to make it look really nice but you will still have a cheaper piece of artwork that you can try out in the space. Posters are more easily replaced than your canvas prints so they work really well in high traffic areas and homes with children and pets. They can always be upgraded too if you decide that you’ve saved enough money and you want to make the space look more refined you can go ahead and buy the oil reproduction or canvas prints of the same artwork and you will always have that poster print as back up or something to put away and have.

KB! You didn't mention kitchens. What's the trend for 2022? I have a small /medium Pittsburgh kitchen that gets NO light (1 small window) Any suggestions? Thanks

I love your black hair! Very cute! I do like chrome in the kitchen but I feel you need something else to finish it off. I like brass instead of gold in kitchens and bathrooms. My 2 cents. Have a wonderful weekend!

I have a "gallery" on the high walls of the Foyer with framed prints of Theophile Steinlen's ad art featuring cats, it serves to bring the height down a bit. All are in shades of red, yellow, orange with black accents and framed in black. I still love them! My 70's kit built house (renovated but with same footprint) has small rooms, none of the others can support that. I have a traditional rolled arm camelback sofa that I've adored for years. I made several loosely form fitted slipcovers for sofa casual wear & unveil it's chocolate paisley goodness for special occasions. I try to incorporate Feng Shui elements, not for the metaphysical aspects, but because at it's core it's just a thoughtful approach to designing for harmony, comfort, and function.

I like the deep sofas because my family loves to lay together on the weekends. I especially love cuddling with my man and dog.

Wow! Yes, you are exactly right. Get rid of tiny little things. I LOVE oversized, especially art. Thank you. I can't stand sectionals (they only look good in the showroom) ❤

Metals, and things found in nature, in general are evergreen. Doesn’t matter if warm or cooler. It’s just about how it’s styled. Yes, it can be trendy and still be timeless.

It took me 30 years to learn what you just wrapped up here in 20 minutes. Well done! What do I want to see? Minimalism - we just down-sized into an 80's built townhome and have 8ft ceilings and open dining room and living room with only a picture window and a fireplace facing the wrong way (if we are seated in living room facing FP, our neighbors can see us on couch so would have to be closed up windows all the time). Also with the natural lighting limited, besides an added chandelier over the dining table, the only other light is an old eyeball over the fireplace, even light walls come across dark. Will be checking out your amazon storefront for sconces!

So true, these large sofas look best in a store where they have like an entire floor dedicated to them 😂 Also matching brass sounds like matching gold jewelry, it’s never the same exact color 😅

Your comments are great, I agree with you about so much green inside your house. I have a white leather modular sofa, it's beautiful, but I think it takes to much space and is not good for conversation. I don;t have the money to get rid of it right now, but I like sofas better. Hey girl, you are right! Kisses from Miami,.

I have a restoration hardware sectional and it works perfectly with our two story living room. It is only going to work with one layout(I can’t move them around to get a different look) but they work beautifully in my space. But I agree, 90% of people need to stay away from the cloud sofa or modular style sofas.

I'm loving the gold and brass color and I'm 58 yrs old. I've seen it come in and out and at one time I hated gold but I decorated for me and if I changed things up every single year I would be contributing to gobal warming by always buying something new which have to be made by companies that do produce pollution. Let's stop trying to keep up with what's in style or the trend for whatever the year is and let's learn to enjoy what we have. Protect our environmental and stop changing your decor every year.
