Hey- I'm a professional scientific glassblower, and I dig your work! If you ever have any questions, or need a few parts, hit me up; I know lots about glass-to-metal seals and high vacuum stuff...

Interesting: so you’re saying this is more accurate than a larger glass lathe? This is a wood lathe? That’s really cool

This is a Litton F type lathe. The grid lathes from RCH are now in a warehouse in Victorville. The two glass lathes they had were in such terrible shape I bought them for parts.

Charles yeah I’d won a good amount of the lots but my sunk cost fallacy friend of ten years decided it was a good time to steal from me and I ended up also miscommunication with the fellow from the auction company. I believed I’d have time since he had been so lax (two weeks past due for others buying from a machine shop in Long Beach) but when my girlfriend called him he thought I’d forfeit my lots. It was a mess. Nothing so bad as my experience with what was once Darcell tubes which was one time electrontube.com El Monte. The remnants are now sold as Bangy bangy after being sold by oldguyradiola. The amount of stuff that was thrown away or looked at as trash by arty Koterba... I wish there wasn’t such a huge presence of flippers and people with more passion for money and zero for preservation. Ps. Would you mind if I consulted you on a couple things in the future such as whether or not say some pfeiffer pumps I get for a steal would be a good set up? I’ve tried to gather literature on all the disparate subjects required for the hobby but modern tooling and lexicon can be difficult to extrapolate. No big deal if not. Just wanted to ask.

Consider yourself lucky. Most of what was at RCH was nearly unusable. It’s just filling up warehouse space at this point. As for consulting I am not in a position to really offer anything at this point. I am so busy with my real business that I just don’t have the time apart from casual advice.

Wow! You have a great setup! Did the extra thick cathode coating show any advantages?
@MrSupro

It threw off the heater power input to temperature balance. Inconsistent results. Cathode heat economy is a balance of mass vs heater current vs emission area and the extra carbon gas generated by that mass can adversely effect the filament impedance causing a lowering of temperature for voltage input. Or in other words create a tungsten carbide layer which makes its resistance go up. All has to stay in balance. That’s why it takes so long to figure out a procedure to make a new tube design.

Your 7-pin stem does not have the exhaust tubulation off the bottom? Would you have any use for my leftover 9, 12 or 15 Pin stems? :-) I've made most every style press stem commonly used over the years. Now the main PO's come in for 2-pin and pressed Capillary for PID lamps. Great video! I also have a few Eisler rotary machines left over.

Sure. What glass/metal combos are they? I only have a pinch stem machine that I occasionally use. Otherwise everything I have is left over stuff bought from either Sylvania in the early 80’s or ETI now The Fredricks company. I have press heads for 9 pin and 8 pin wafer press heads but no specific machine. I just turn a Litton F model on its head and use that and it’s kind of a pain. Also I don’t really have leads suitable for wafer press stems. I could use solid dumet or alloy 42 but it’s not really a priority. I have a 7 pin and 9 pin eisler carousel sealer. I have about 16K sets of 7 pin bulbs and buttons that are the size that would be used in a 6AQ5 type tube.

I make hard glass vacuum tubes and stems; I'd be very interested in your inventory as well! I'm looking to buy a press stem machine, too-
