I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well kzitem.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

I love my little lews reel on my ultra light and was thinking about getting a bigger one for pike/musky. Seeing you retrieve at the end sold me! They retrieve so solid and the bearings are a dream! Was worried if i ordered it online it would not be the same.

Pretty good video! I prefer to take my reels apart and service them that way but this is pretty good for on-the-fly maintenance. Having said that, your bearings are sealed. So, if you need to oil bearings they should actually be replaced because that means they are no longer sealed. That really shouldn’t happen on any modern spinning reel though. Which also means that oiling your roller bearing is a moot point. However, you should always keep the roller clean. Break down the reel, remove all of the grease with Dawn soap and warm water and oil all of the gears too. You’ll have the smoothest reel on the water!

I’ve used Sea Foam’s Deep Creep on squeaky reels. It does a great job of getting into tight places. It’s better than WD40.

You don’t oil the spindle , you use a light coat of grease , oil is for bearings.

If your gear wheel on the spindle has a flat, rougher side, and a smoother, slightly rounded side, does it matter which side faces away from the rod handle?

The only flaw of WD40 is that It attracts and traps dirt and dust over time. But it does a great job of degreasing and lubricating. Double edged sword

Does sewing machine oil work?
@wendellfishing
Жыл бұрын
I didn't come up with this.. but I did find it out there "As a lubricant for fishing reel, sewing machine oil is both a YES, and a NO. It will not damage any type of reel or its components, however it also won’t protect it against corrosion. It can be used on your fishing gear, however the salt from sea can make it very solid and abrasive. It goes better with freshwater reels. If you plan to use it for an occasional fishing trip and you will clean and lubricate your reel again soon, then it is perfectly fine. You can also use it for parts like handle or other “less important” reel parts. When you are choosing such alternative product, you have to be sure that it can be used with materials your reel is made of. Whether it is stainless steel, aluminium, or some other metal, lubricant must be compatible. The biggest downside of this oil is that it wears out fast, after just a few uses."
