It’s also basically the same diet as most middle eastern people have, but with different flavor profiles, so there’s an incredibly large pool of recipes to choose from

Started this diet spring 2023. Lost 60 pounds, no longer suffer from inflammation and even balanced my hormones to the point i am no longer suffering from menopausal symptoms. People thought it was crazy how i used olive oil to cook everything (saying it was too much) but I feel great and will stay with this way of eating

The dr. Suggested to go on the diet, absolutely loved it, plus it isn’t a diet, it’s a way of life. Lost weight, however, stopped doing it, put the weight back on, 2024 going to start it again.

…and the children are fed the same foods at school. In France, the food culture is taught from a very early age. School dinners are checked by dietitians to ensure they are healthy and balanced and plant based. They are highly subsidised by the authorities. Parents pay €2-3 per meal. In the UK parents from year 2 onwards pay £2.70 towards school dinners and are served poor quality food. I hate to imagine what children get in the USA for school dinners. I would so love to have a med-style market to shop at, but our 1,000 year old market has ceased to exist because of the supermarket monopoly. 😥

When I was younger and I'm talking like 9th grade. I read a book about the Mediterranean diet and I grossly misinterpreted it thinking it just meant eat a ton of pasta. As long as it's whole grain pasta and now then I'm older. I know it's more like eat a ton of vegetables and fruit. Drizzle it with a little olive oil and season it with a source of protein And have a side of whole grains

Unfortunately, many books on the Mediterranean diet misrepresent what it really is.

Reasons why diets don’t work, you get to your target and stop. Hence why making permanent lifestyle changes are the key, e.g eating like a Mediterranean. That being said please remember to treat yourself every now and then

I’ve mostly been eating this way with a bit of tweaks (adding some things that are more Okinawan, I suppose…or maybe just more “Eastern” (since I do not have any Okinawan roots…or any Japanese roots? For that matter) so that I won’t look like I’m completely ignoring my heritage completely.

It is NOT plant based, and the fat is NOT mostly unsaturated! French, Italians and Greeks eat an average of a pound of cheese a week. That is a lot of cheese! It does not come from plants, and it is very high in saturated fat. Why do people ignore the huge amount of cheese in the med diet?
@Mediterraneanliving
16 күн бұрын
The average cheese consumption in the Mediterranean is between 15 to 20 pounds per year vs. 40 pounds per person per year in the United States. The cheese in the U.S. tends to be eaten with more processed foods such as snacks or burgers. You are correct that it doesn't come from a plant. Also, a plant based diet has different interpretations. The one I use is that the majority of the foods eaten (or the base or foundation) comes from plants. The majority of the fat eaten in the traditional Mediterranean diet does come from extra virgin olive oil, but meat and dairy are also eaten as well.
