Been illegal here in Sweden since 1989. And I would never ever think about doing it to my Amstaff. There is literally no known positive effects to cropping the ear. Ear cropping does not improve a dog’s hearing or prevent ear infections. Many of the breeds that have their ears cropped, such as Dobermans and American bulldogs, and these dogs are not even "at risk" for ear infection. Changing the ears of a dog impacts its ability to communicate. Dogs communicate with their facial expressions, including ear movements; this natural behaviour is inhibited by cropping. There is a reason why most of european countries have banned the operation as it's a purely cosmetic operation. I believe that the ONLY reason for tail docking or ear cropping is if it's a medical exception. Just look at "November 2008, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) revised its policy to oppose cosmetic-related ear cropping, and urged the AKC to remove it from their “breeding standards.” I'm sorry that some still believe it to be health positive thing for the dog, or simply do it cause they want their dog to look "Mean". My staffies ears are simply the best, the floppiness is picture perfect!

Thank you for advocating for the natural beauty of these wonderful dogs. We have our second Pitbull Terrier and none of them had/has cropped ears. For me and my wife it’s not even a discussion, not even a thought! Dogs are beautiful creatures the way they are and people can always find a dog that fits their taste. Some people have a tendency to want to “control” everything, set everything to their wishes. Those people are probably never satisfied with what they have or get offered, unless they have made it kind of unique in an artificial way. Like buying a Ferrari and have off-road tyres mounted on it because you simply want to stand out and get attention. The people that I met around here in The Netherlands who have had their dogs ears cropped or tails shortened are mostly people who have the dog to show off to other people instead of just love having a beautiful and loving friend like a dog. I’m sorry, I don’t particularly like those people. All their reasons for cropping ears are merely excuses for not being satisfied what nature offers them and their habit to modify everything to their own desires. You are very mild and diplomatic in your video. I admire you for it. My personal thought is that mutilating animals is just cruel and totally unnecessary! And I use the polite words because you asked us all to be respectful to other opinions and I respect that. I have spoken about this item with several people around here, including Vets, and the reason about the ear infections is absolutely pure BS. There is absolutely no medical reason to do this, it’s only esthetics and no more. I enjoy watching your videos because you try to make people aware about making choices about their dogs, you prove to be a great doggie daddy, Chester and Ruby are just wonderful dogs and beautiful souls and you show the positive side of the “dangerous” breeds. Please keep up the good work and cuddle Chester and Ruby for me if you will?! Have a great day together and thanks for sharing

@@PibblesAndBits sorry for the late reply, but somehow I didn’t get a notification from the fact that you wrote a reaction. Thank you for your support for these wonderful dogs. I was happy to see your video and felt the need to write down my thoughts even though I am not someone who regularly comments videos. But you somehow brought it up in me and I hope that, like you, I can reach a lot of people to be (more) aware of the wonderful creatures those dogs are and the choices we make for them. I want to compliment you for doing really important videos on a medium that is also used for the most senseless crap I cannot even imagine…. All these people who are on KZitem to become “famous” or whatever, but ALWAYS for their own benefit! And you are here for the benefit of the most misunderstood breed in the world. Well said. They look much better WITH ears. Cropping is something that originates back to the time when dogs were bred for fighting. Ears and tails would get ripped off frequently, so people decided to have them surgically removed beforehand to avoid the hassle. Later, people stopped dog fighting, but still thought that cropped ears made a dog look "badass". I believe that cropping doesn't belong in the modern world and should be banned everywhere, just like here in the Netherlands.
@CaptainBinkie
Жыл бұрын
@@Bert_de_Wit we couldn’t agree more! And some people didn’t even do it surgically, they simply cut them off with a knife or even scissors. Tails were often bound with a rubber band to eventually “die” and fall off. Humans are the worst monsters in this world…….

What a great video this is. I personally strongly dislike cropped ears. This KZitemr is very friendly when he says he does not criticize people who do have their dog's ears cropped. Because I believe cropping is ugly, unnecessary, hurtful and it sends the wrong message to strangers. I hope they ban it worldwide. Thankfully, it's banned in almost all of western Europe too. Now if only American authorities would step up and ban it too, that would be a good step. Late, but good.

Good morning Chris, Chester and sweet Ruby. Happy Sunday sweethearts. 🥰 I’m so glad and grateful you took the time in your hectic schedule to explain this hot button issue for some, controversial to others, and not a big deal for a lot. These are all valid reasons. The clean menacing, tough appearance from their ears cropped are super adorable for some owners and fans of American Bully’s alike. I personally find their natural features intact irresistibly adorable but to each their own. Personal preference. I can’t imagine Chester with cropped ears but he’s so beautiful just like the legions of uncropped precious pooches out there, ‘struttin their stuff and ‘lovin their respective ears, cropped or not. “To flop or not to flop” … that is the question. 💜

Cropping ears, cutting off their tails or declawing cats are all cruel. You're chopping off parts of their body. It's insane to me anyone still does it. I worked at a vet and saw them do it..its horrible. Way cuter with the ears anyway. Most people do it just because it's the trend. Also working at a vet....they don't have tons of ear infections either way. You clean the ears. You treat the infections just as you would in a person.

It all comes down to your prerogative and preferences as the owner of the dog. Honestly, I don't like the way your dogs ears look but you are the owner and I respect that it is your choice. Just the same I expect the same respect as an owner who prefers cropped ears on this breed. I believe in breed standards across all breeds and those standards were developed for a reason. Also, the truth is NO domesticated dog os natural all of these breed that are not wolves were developed and tailored over time to achieve a certain look and standards. Being that bullies are not that old if a breed I am surprised that it seems people have for gotten that truth. If man has touched and altered a thing in any way it is NOT natural!

It's crazy how people have become so used to a mutilated dog, that they prefer to see them without their normal parts. A dogs ears and tail are very important to how a dog functions, this is not my opinion it's a known fact, that's why I never crop ears or dock tails. It really doesn't matter what their ears or tail looks like if you really love dogs because each dog is different physically and mentally but, altering them just makes them all look the same. The biggest part that people don't realize is that dogs communicate with each other using their tail and ears, I've watched my dogs react to each other's movements based on these things, so without them that communication changes, leading to misunderstandings between dogs.

Hello American bully doesn't have to have cropped ears for shows he can also have natural and he doesn't have to be for breeding (I mean in europe. I don't know how it is in Canada but in Europe they can have it naturally if I'm not mistaken:) otherwise great video :)

Cropping their ears does not prevent ear infection, on contrary it supports this. When we got our Amstaff, the breeder has his ears cropped. about a year into his life, he started to get his ear infected time after time. Walking him during a rainy day was nothing but problems for him, causing even more infections and problems. Thank you for not cropping the ears, they look so much better and show of so much more personality :)

I love him, so cute… I love them all but something about the ears 🥰!!! I also loves the ears on my girl Sky who just turned 3 years old in Sept. she a blue fawn pocketbully… when she was little they never was flopped down only the tips folded over but around 1 the stay up, she has full control of them and I love it… like you said she is a head turner, we get stopped all the time.

cropping ears is pure cosmetic, for looks.. dont matter to me, it's all about the dog... bro do you live in a condo?
@PibblesAndBits
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think that's more than 90% of the reason it's done. I'm in the same camp, as long as the dog is being loved and cared for properly that's what matters most to me

Great video Chris, I will have to agree with you on every point you made in this video. The only difference is I don't live in Canada, and it is legal here. I think it does give them a softer and more approachable look when the ears aren't cropped.

I love how he looks! I have a new bully pup, and I decided against it as well. Mainly, because I want him to look cute, not intimidating, so when he does have to kick a butt or two, they won't see it coming😅

I don't know why anyone would make "aesthetic" changes to an already perfect dog (which they all are). My first dog was a Boston Terrier mix, so he naturally had a stumpy tail. I was walking him one day and some woman started lecturing me about how a dog's tail shouldn't be cropped. I kept trying to tell her that his tail wasn't cropped. She wasn't even listening...she just kept lecturing. My second dog was a Frenchie mix, and I LOVED his bat ears. I just adopted an American Bully pup and they think he's mixed with terrier....he definitely looks more terrier than bully.

So I am not for or against, I had a bully growing up and his ears were not cropped. I am getting a bully in about a month and I have contemplated cropping his ears. I am curious, how do you or anyone feel about other breeds whose standards are cropped tail or ears?

I’m not a fan of cropped ears. I’ve always had Amstaffs or APBT so I just like their floppy goofy ears. Edited to add: I hadn’t thought about the hunting aspect. I can see that. As far as ear infections my last Amstaff had huge issues with those but it was just something we dealt with.
