Okay this is a pretty old episode but when they brought up the segment on 60 minutes about the potential cure for sickle cell anemia I got excited because my uncle is the scientist they were interviewing. He's been researching a cure for years. Anyway, great episode!!! So glad I found this channel.

In England when I was growing up 50s and 60s There was no unkindness about the Catholic Church. I got married in 1969 and came to Northeastern Pa. I married into a strict Methodist family. They were quite anti Catholic. My Dad was Polish but was not a practicing Catholic. My sister and I was brought up in the Anglican Church. Thanks to St John Cardinal Newman. I do believe he did get rid of anti Catholicism in England. First feel in love with the Catholic Church as the Catholic people in Northeastern Pa. such lovely people. Love the information about the founders of Oxford and Cambridge. I lived in the East Anglia. Not far from Cambridge. Thank you so very much.

The concept of the Dark Ages is really based on Anglo-Western Continental European centric historiography. Looking at Christendom Ireland was a hub of learning as was the Byzantine empire . The wider world was also not dark with Persia and Baghdad been the epicenter of astronomy , maths, poetry and invention . Baghdad in particular had the great library of Baghdad which was sadly burnt down by the Mongols. In China was making significant scientific advancements like printing (though it was non moveable ) , gunpowder, built the great canal and developed the small pox vaccine before Jenner

I was educated in the 1960s and 1970s. Looking back on it, I feel I was victimized by progressives in our education system in America. One of the major themes that ran through the entire education system and curricula back then why is that people keep getting smarter and smarter, and about the people who came before us were and dumber the farther back in history that you go. Looking back at it now, I realize how wrong they were for teaching us that, but I didn’t know any better back then.

It seems so obvious now. Take medicine, for example. I grew up believing that until possibly the 1920s or 1930s doctors and nurses new next to nothing about treating medical issues. The only thing Civil War era surgeons knew how to do was to saw off soldiers legs. In the revolutionary war the only thing they knew how to do was let blood out of soldiers arms. The truth is that even though we did not have things like antibiotics until World War II, doctors Wayback in ancient Rome and ancient Greece actually knew a lot about medicine. If they had been complete quacks, the medical profession would not have survived. Think about it: if they were all quacks, how were doctors even around when we got “modern medicine” in the 20th Century? They didn’t just hang around for centuries until something finally came around that worked. No, they knew a lot about Madison, they did a lot of good, they were able to do a lot of things to treat people who are sick or injured.

After the fall of the Roman Empire,Europe was in turmoil with wars between different peoples as there was no uniting authority which resulted in the forming of different kingdoms. In Ireland which was never part of the Roman Empire became Christenise in the 3 and 4 centuries, in the following 5,6,and 7 centuries monasteries developed all over the Island where irish monks studied and wrote down and preserved the classical arts, legends, maths, and also the gospels and old irish legends. These monasteries would be the universities of today where people in main land Europe would come for there education. In the 7 and 8 centuries irish monks began to cross over to the UK and to Europe spreading the Christain faith and opening up monasteries for learning and education, in France, germany, switzerland,Italy and so on, you could say these were the first universities. This Irish golden age came to an end starting in the 9 centuary with the coming of the Vikings raids and the sacking of the monasteries for there gold and the pricless artefacts. So you could say that the irish re-educated Europe.

With all respect...and not related to the video....but I just don't feel comfortable praying that Mary are going to pray for me when I have direct access to the Lord. Plus, why take up Mary or other saints when the apostles didn't? I really don't want to come off as mean or offending but it feels like these teachings creaped in when the church got established in Rome...Anyhow, cool video! I think you guys had a great sense of humor, hope to see more content :-)

Because Pope in Vatican/Catholic is the Anti-Christ. He is the fake Jesus Christ that many Catholic did not even know. Martin Luther ex-priest also did not know until he read the Bible instead "Vatican" tradition to pray through Mary. Catholic change 10 commandments: 1. Catholic worship Mary idol 2. Catholic change Sabbath/Saturday become Sunday. Pope claimed himself GOD on heart and act as Jesus on earth above the Bible which is blasphemy. He sell forgiveness ticket to million people and bring wealth to Catholic empire while Jesus died to the whole world for our sins for free (free of charge). Jesus was homeless and teach about humility, humbleness while pope build expensive building around the world, sit on the throne. Christian read the Bible as it is while Catholic add tradition and read little Bible. You can add more to that.

The revisionism of the 70's and 80's has in part been reversed. Professor Ward Perkins revived the idea of a Dark Age in his book 'The Fall of Rome and the End of Civilization' giving sound Archaeological and historical reasons. Peter Heather in his 'The Fall of the Roman Empire' refers to a Western world in which the conditions for sustaining an Empire such as Rome's were vanishing from about 250 onwards. Whether we like it or not, in 380 one could write a letter in York and send it to Alexandria. Many people, even animals, lived under tiled roofs. Literacy was widespread, and fungible currency was used for everyday transactions. A wide range of household items was available to people even of modest means, mass produced and of general good quality. By 450 all this had changed. Towns had declined to the point where many had shrunk to a huddle of huts surrounding a church. Long distance travel a thing of the past. Thatch and wattle replaced timber, stone and tiles. Literacy was restricted to the church. Trade was reduced to barter. Wheel turned pottery would not be made again for another 300 years. If we don't like the term 'Dark Ages', we could always call it something else. How about 'A period of economic and political collapse leading to a diminution of prosperity and stability lasting some four hundred years during which urbanisation and population shrinkage occurred'. Personally I think its easier just to say 'Dark Ages'.
