My wedges are strong, but what stops me from breaking thru 90 is my driver. It easily costs me many multiple strokes each round. The only reason I shoot around 92-95 consistently is because of my confidence and "skill" with 9i and lower. My short game completely saves my rounds.
@JeffPassageCPA

I agree. Driver is my nemesis. I max out at 180 yards. Always have. If I had a driver swing to produce 225 yards, my other clubs would be 10-15 yards longer. I know I could break for sure then. I finally got down to a 91 on a par 70 course last year.

Thanks Matt...excellent...I already have got #7 on lockdown. Your tip on practicing wedges only at the range sometimes is money! Ever since I discovered your channel I have watched and incorporated your short game tips...especially the wedge shots. When covid hit and my gym closed I would stop by the range after work and work on my short game. I became really comfortable with my gap wedge for shots up to 75 yards or so. I will hit my shag bag of about 50 balls or so to a pin location @ varying distances between 25-75 yards. That alone has helped me so much. My long game is pretty bad as my swing still needs work but I can scramble pretty well as a result of all my wedge practice. Shoot around 90 most rounds but have broken it a few times in the last year. Shot an 84 the other day and that is only 3 off my all time low of 81 shot years ago. You have been so great for my game and confidence. I actually look forward to the short wedge shots now. Gonna get a putting mirror and work on that next. :) Sorry for the long post..

Love it , great video. Just like u said too - when i'm shooting anything 90 and above , it's usually because my driver was not working and i wasn't comfortable with it that day... So so true. The days the driver is working for me and I keep it in play off the tee, those are the days i'm mid to low 80's and it's a huge confidence booster when I get off the tee ok and in play without having to drop and lose silly strokes. Keep up the great work!

7:16 it's a lot more complicated than hitting the center of the club face with the driver, many times I've hit the center and I still hit a massive hook/slice
@jameswood1755
Жыл бұрын
if that is happening while hitting the center of the club face your issue is most likely with how you are setting up on the ball. if you square the face, keep it square through the backswing and follow through after ball contact it is not possible to hook or slice.

My first round last spring (in 20-25 years of being away from golf) was a 110. My best so far, is an 86. I've only taken 2 lessons, and they really weren't all that helpful. Neither coach bothered to follow up with me either. I've got most of my coaching from guys like Matt on KZitem, and it's helped me a ton! Keeping the ball in play, chipping and putting are the things I've focused on most. My tip? Don't just mindlessly hit balls when on the driving range! Take the time to aim your shots into specific places; it helps with aim a lot! I personally don't use alignment aids either; but that's me.

Recommendation for a Video. How much differences do the Clubs really make. Basically uses entry level Set against your set and see how much difference it effect your game. is 5 Stoke Difference? Is it 10 Stroke Difference? Not saying use crappy set just Mid Range around $700.. Would be cool see the difference in a 9 Hole Video.. Basically Woods and Irons only difference. Putter and Wedges could be the same clubs..

This is a good question. Some other channels have done a little of this (Rick Shiels played an off the shelf budget set, GM golf did a challenge where they bought used clubs on a budget). But a straight up comparison would be good too. Also if they included someone who was like an 18 handicap.

As someone who has gone from being a lifetime ten handicap to a recent scratch golfer by doing most of these things while practicing, this is easily your best-ever video. Hit wedges until your hands bleed, learn to hit the bounce of your wedges into the ground, and to give you that Pro swing, practice the looping tennis topspin forehand of taking the club back out, slightly drop it in, and then practice hitting 5 yard draws. Driver, wedges until your brain melts - looping practice for your overall swing = scratch golfer.
