@samsun01
3 жыл бұрын
@@casperr8349 the world of 'fashion' is not as one dimensional as what you read or watch on the internet, whether documentaries or 'investigative' pieces or from bloggers and vloggers. A lot of times, these 'internet content' is really outsiders trying to get in. Imran Amed from "Business of Fashion" is a good example of an outsider looking in from fashion in the beginning. He's a lot different now since 10 years ago because he's sort of an 'insider' now, having marinated some time in the fashion world. Just like in tech, a lot of things you can't just find in 'documentation' or manuals or reading reddit or stackoverflow (prior to that was "experts exchange" which actually had a lot of good contributions by tech people). Yes true you can solve a small subset of a problem on stack overflow but you still need to rely on your own problem solving and organisation skills to build up an entire maintainable system. A lot of nuances which you can't explain in articles or documentaries. You got to be immersed in fashion world to understand it. It's beyond "design patterns" in tech where you can catalogue it. But even "design patterns" in tech decay rapidly because things just keep changing and 'internet content' can't keep up. The word "design patterns" in tech is actually a borrowed term from architecture. Lots of cross pollination going on which you need to really be observing and thinking thoughtfully about on your own. In fashion, a lot of concepts are very similar to tech. Refactoring your code. Making your code easy to maintain or scale up. Efficiency in your code to fashion is how well your fabric quality is, how skilled you cut the fabric, etc. It's very technical in fabrics, more so than software. Software can be copied and paste, which is how programmers code for the past 2 decades (yes, it's not a new thing). "Fashion" fabric you can't do that. Yes "Fast fashion" is a lot different. Techlead has started a lot of businesses and succeeded. KZitem venture is just one of his money making businesses. Don't forget that it has nothing to do with "tech". I was just talking about fabric, not even how fashion houses are really just the frontend side, a 'brand'. The factories and manufacturers are probably all Italian owned, making all the clothes -> the backend. Fashion designer is not the same as a stylist. It's similar to a software engineer to a programmer. Fashion is also about psychology. How you see yourself in this world. A mechanism to project your image into the real world. Offline. Online is trash. Tip of the ice berg, son. But the point is you got to think "outside" and hope you're lucky enough to delve outside of the tech world. Tech is easy, son.

@@casperr8349 sorry to answer your question, i've worked long enough in the tech industry to realise it's not worth the money to sacrifice your entire life in a small box staring at a screen with no emotions. yes, real world is complicated and stuff, but that's what life is about. i want to use tech to enhance my own life, but not be a slave to tech (as a programmer). i can't be a fashion designer because it takes talent and a certain mindset (similar to the criteria to be a tech person). but i'm a student of fashion and i try to enhance my life with fashion...through "TRIAL AND ERROR" through EXPERIMENTATION. My theory is that we only desire these things, these outward displays of wealth, because we don't believe we are worthy; we seek validation from others - NOT because we are attention whores - but because we honestly are not yet convinced of our worth, our successfulness. We need to hear it from others - people who are impartial observers; people. THEN, when we DO become successful, we begin to actually believe our positive assessments of ourselves, of our worthiness. So we don't need external validation like we did in the past.

Are you completely alone? (or you have at least 1-2 people you are deeply care about?) Do you want to live on 20 thousands dollars a year or less for the rest of your life? If one of the answers is no - several millions of dollars is not enough if you want to continue living in U.S. or any other first world country. Unless you are one of those thing that I mentioned above (alone, live in third world country, probably in a van, consumer debt free, don't splurge money etc. etc. etc.) Hundreds of thousands and even up to several millions in your account only means that you will not immediately die if you stop working.

*Being* a millionaire doesn’t sound that great. _Becoming_ a millionaire does though. Studies have shown that most people adapt to a big jackpot lottery win within three months. So the very thing that we perceive as life-changing may not have the long-lasting impact we expect. There’s no point in just looking at the financial element, you have to look at things from a psychological perspective, too.
@nickdoyle-achievefinancial2464

The most important difference is the financial independence. If you are FI, you have a lot more freedom to choose how you live your life and use your time. Instead of going to a job you may not be passionate about, you can pursue something more meaningful. This is by far the most important aspect. I discuss these in more detail in my video on FIRE.
@main_stream_media_is_a_joke

The "becoming" part takes time and changes a person inside out. Same with studying for and getting a higher degree or getting into peak shape. It's the journey that is WAY more important than the final destination. Just my observation but the people who embark on the FIRE journey are some of the most level headed and calm people around. Once you have enough money for your functional lifestyle and your retirement covered, the additional money really makes very little sense.

@@main_stream_media_is_a_joke Totally agree with that. The process is much more important than the outcome. The outcome is usually a byproduct of the process. However, with a jackpot lottery win, there isn’t much of a process. You buy a ticket, you choose your numbers, and you sit there and hope they come up. If they do, you are in dreamland. The ecstasy and euphoria of a big win has you jumping with joy. You have a honeymoon period afterwards as well where you are on cloud nine. But over time, you acclimatise, you become desensitised to your situation, and things gradually revert back to normal on a psychological level - and maybe even on a financial level if you’ve decided to be incredibly lavish. This is why you have happy poor people and depressed rich people. Relativity is everything.

Use the bath water for washing clothes in front loader. Buy Japanese soap powder (kao) its develop from a potato enzyme. Soak whites in nappisan because it gets it clean. Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, black tea, energy drinks ...) Avoid alcohol 98% of the time. Avoid white sugar Avoid stress Avoid antibiotics(unless you absolutely need it) Avoid NSAIDs Avoid Aspros Avoid television (It's just brainwashing, propaganda and it destroys your empathy) Avoid gaming again its a mind fk. Your brain experiences stress and it creates phobias, desensitizes you and again no empathy. Avoid the sun it ages you. Wear a hat or use sunscreen. Avoid hottest part of day again sun is brutal in afternoon but very nice in the evening. 35 watt kitchen LED. Shaving destroys your skin. Drink rainwater without the poisons added to drinking water like "fluroride" and chlorine the former is a neuro-toxin. Educate yourself in regards to sex. Learn how to achieve an orgasm. It's the one thing women would love to achieve. If you are a good lover a women will initiate sex. Never watch porn. Again it desensitizes you. It's like getting calluses on you hands. Your hands are not sensitive. It makes them happy and it enriches your life. Buy triple glazed windows to block noise. Get very good sleep. Deep REM sleep. If your not dreaming then your not getting good sleep. I buy pots and grow herbs and veges. Their fresh and I only use what I need. Being rich to me is buying or growing high quality and tasty food. This is a serious problem now. It's very difficult to buy delicious tasty food. Over the years I've noticed bottles getting smaller, ingredients being replaced with cheaper ... and full of chemicals, additives, fillers, stabilizers, modifiers, ... Work out at home and walk every day if possible. Do pushups and chinups. Get a beautiful home with a big amount of land around it. I like classy things. Like a cast iron bathtub. I like older style homes with beautiful architecture. I like wood heaters. It's nice to sit in front of during winter. That's when you have the rare glass of red wine. Any sorry about the convoluted arrangement of paragraphs. 👍🏻

When going to Hawaii. Don't bring anything. Don't bring.a bathing suit, don't bring sunscreen, don't bring a towel, don't bring flip flops. You can buy all that in Hawaii for relatively cheap and you will look like a local and blend in.

I agree with TechLead on not consuming alcohol. I drink only water, coffee, and tea. This is healthier and much cheaper. Plus drinking alcohol is like borrowing happiness from the next day. I made a video on compound interest, which details how not purchasing these types of items will add up to significant amounts of money if you invest instead.

@@kp2718 Over 40 years, $60 per month adds up to ~300k assuming the same return as the S&P 500 for the past 40 years. This is more than most people have saved for their retirement. For a 20-25 year old, it only takes coming up with a couple hundred per month to likely be a millionaire by retirement. Every little bit counts.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. This guy has taken the time to put into a video the things I have been practicing / thinking about for a while now and it is somewhat reassuring to see someone else coming to similar conclusions such has having less physical objects in life etc - certainly makes you feel more free. Kudos to you from a current Googler! :-)

I fully understand and agree with your reasons of living in a simple life style, as a grown man, I also realized that the majority of the money I made is not just for myself, but for my kids, my old parents, wife and real friends. It gives me the power to play my roles as a responsible person. I’m also a self made multi millionaire who is similar age with you. Many dreams for others which are relying on buying power are no longer mine, instead, my satisfactions come from seeing my families live happily. Keep it up and live well.

@@DS-ed5nw I once lost a diamond out of an antique wedding ring. I freaked so much I was embarrassed to myself for behaving like that. Years later I don't bother wearing a wedding ring, but the $10. yellow glass stone ring I wear occasionally for dress up I appreciate and don't have to worry about losing. The loss of the diamond taught me to stop attaching emotional value to most material things. It's nicer being free. The guy who called you a summer child may just be thinking of his culture of how they invest in gold jewelry so they don't pay fees and turn it into money where they move to. So what.

He's right about the hair, you can have "nice hair" with a basic cut but nice styling. Figure out how to style or wax your hair and cut your own hair to save a lot of money. At the start of the pandemic I searched "how to cut a fade" and watched a couple videos and did it myself with 2 mirrors and a hair clipper. Now I can do it better than most barbers, my friends assume I get it cut professionally. Next figure out what product will create the look you are going for, and how to comb it or style it. Even if you get a nice $40 hair cut, it will only look really nice for a week at most.

As always, I really like the style of these spoken presentations. Clear thoughts, useful information, but always with his original and distinctive dry humor. Anyway, I am a millionaire too, and have assumed many of the same lifestyle choices. My Toyota will soon be 19 years old, drives like new and almost never needs repair. It has been decades since I paid actual money for a haircut. I never go shopping for clothing. My watch is a perfectly fine $10 Timex for which I have actually received compliments on its appearance. My shoe budget is honestly about 20 cents per year! (not kidding, I bought new black Army issue leather shoes in a thrift store for just $2, polish them now and then, and they look and wear great and last year after year!). In restaurants, I always order water and seldom spend over $10 per person. I read many hundreds (even thousands) of books. My latest fantastic new book purchase is "Option Volatility & Pricing" which I found at Salvation Army for 49 cents!!! I could go on and on. My main interests are painting, drawing, doing etchings and also actively trading the stock market. Aside from stock trades, related sources of supplementary income include laddered CD's, dividends, and selling covered calls. I highly recommend learning to sell covered calls on stocks the reader may already own. I just bought other books on artists such as Massaccio, Sassetta, and Van der Leyden. My own art works are being acquired by museums, so all in all, it's an interesting life, and living as a low-key millionaire helps preserve the freedom to pursue these interests. So I endorse TechLead's simple lifestyle choices!
