Does the mobile charger come with the dryer plug connector?
@thomassullivan3365

Don't buy the cheap $10-20 outlet. Spend the money and buy a Hubbell 14-50 outlet which is almost $100. They are higher rated so if you are removing the plug daily (using the mobile charger) it will hold up and not be a fire issue. The cheap plugs are meant for something like a dryer or stove, you plug it in once and unless you move the item, they don't get unplugged. This is something that most people don't understand. These outlets carry 30 or more amps. The cheap plugs are not built to stand up to daily removal of the plug and the connectors inside will weaken and that is when a problem can happen. It will not happen on day one, but weeks or months later. Why risk burning down your home over $80-90 extra dollars for a quality plug. May you kill that $200 Tesla charger. If you are smart you can wire your own otherwise, hire an Electrician to do the job.

So I plan on using an outlet that is behind my stove for charging. I looked at the breaker and it appears that the stove outlet is the only one rated for 50amps so I ordered a few things because it is a 10-50 outlet. I first ordered some type of splitter cord that was really heavy duty and capable of carrying the load and I plan on connecting my stove to one end of the splitter and on the other end I was connecting a 3-foot 10-50 to 14-50 power cord adapter and then having the 14-50 head of that sticking out above the stove and behind it a tad on the wall. I was then going to use the plug and attach a 75 foot 14-50 extension cord that’s capable of carrying the load and 6 gauge to go outside to where I park my car and then connect it to a 14-50 adapter which connects to the Tesla mobile charger and chargers the car at 30 miles an hour I believe. I looked up a few videos and have seen others with this setup and I have verified that the outlet does indeed support 50 amps and I also realize that I can only have 1 of them working at a time, either the stove or the car. But my question is can I leave that 10-50 to 14-50 adapter on the wall behind the stove and keep unplugging the 14-50 extension cord and it wouldn’t weaken the connection from the adapter or would this also be a no no and I would need to leave the 75 foot extension cord plugged in 24/7? All are high quality parts by the way. I think the splitter is 90 some dollars and the adapter cord is 30 and the extension cord is 370. Thank you for reading this and hopefully you can give me some feedback about the legitimacy of my setup and the answer to my question! For context I currently live on a Military base and do not have to pay for electricity but also are not able to install any extra outlets or anything since we are technically renting.

Just buy the Tesla Wall Connector and have it hard wired. Tesla mobile charger is not really designed for daily use and only has a 12 month warranty. The wall connector is a great deal at $400 and has a 48 month warranty. Bakelite Hubbell outlets are better than some others but the failures usually come down to the electrician trying to save a few dollars by using aluminum service wire instead of copper conductors. It's not about plugging and unplugging so much as aluminum tends to suffer from thermal expansion under high loads and then arcing occurs. Then smoke and potentially fire. Tesla Wall Connectors require copper conductors to avoid that problem. Hubbell won't save you if your electrician uses aluminum conductors.

We ordered a gray market Tesla model y performance in Thailand just before Tesla bought a business license at twice the price as we felt, it was worth it. We were lucky we got our money back from that when we saw the business license in the press as we canceled it got our money back and on the first day we ordered a model Y performance. We never been able to test drive a model wide performance in Thailand, so it was quite a surprise that first day when we drove home. 22,000 km later the car has been flawless. Now I don’t get very long range with it or anywhere near as advertised but my wife does when I’m away on business. We were looking at other cars when we happened by a gray market dealer that was selling Teslas, as well as other cars, not commonly imported to Thailand as soon as we test drove the Tesla all other considerations for other cars were gone. We ordered on the first day available here on December 7, 2022 and received our model I performance on May 10, 2023. We had no complaints during delivery. One complaint that came up later was the sound of rain makes when it lands on the rear hatch and the rear quarter panels, exposing the fact that there are very low noise deadening material placed on the body panels exterior. So I fixed that with some dynamite.

Ride quality is a similar myth to the inferior quality and check lists new owners bring, because they see KZitemrs exaggerate things. Tesla’s are built well, and tech with OTA (SOTA and FOTA) is industry leading. The ride quality of the MYP is much better than my 21 Acura RDX Aspec with 20” wheels. The MYP is so much smoother and supple. The acceleration of the MYP is intoxicating - blows the doors off most vehicles on the road from 0-60.

Exactly. Very subjective; depends on a driver’s previous cars, environment (road quality in their area). Bottom line: EV tires are thicker, harder rubber to handle the weight of the battery pack. One easy hack - drop a lb or 2 in tire pressure. Of course that will lead to decreased range, tire wear.

So I got a newer model Y as a loaner while my vehicle was in for service. I still feel the suspension or ride quality is too rough/firm. I can see that with the new seats, the ride feels a bit smoother but I find that it is only a slight improvement and it's mainly due to the seats and not to the suspension itself. It does feel smoother on roads that are a lot less bumpy (especially in comfort mode), and I was pleasantly surprised with the responsiveness in terms of handling. I thought it was much improved. However, for me, when I think of overall ride quality, my main concern is the impact to my back and how it handles rough patches of road and it is still too rough for my taste, even though it is fun to drive, especially on smoother road surfaces. Maybe Tesla can make the air suspension optional for those who want it and are able and willing to pay for it.

IMO it is rough and not very quiet for an EV, when they brag about how little parts they use and how much lighter they are compared to other EV's, this is what happens.

Interesting that there aren't really any incentive to get wall chargers installed at home in the US. In Sweden you only pay 50% of the cost for the charger and installation. The rest is covered by the state. My Zaptec Go cost me ~USD 750 installed and ready to run at 11 kW (it has a capacity of 22 kW, but my fuse box doesn't.).

$750 for a charger in Sweden but it’s $425 for the 11.5 kW Tesla Wall Connector here. It balances out.

Americans were surprised the current Administration (that lives spending tax $$$ and is pushing EVs) didn’t have anything in their big spending bill. Adoption for apartment dwellers will be impossible without a huge increase in charging options. The Tesla $7.5B deal a few days ago is nice - but overnight charging when there’s less demand on the grid is badly needed.

So you added PFF and ceramic coating? Can you go to the drive through car wash with either or both of these?
@MattDanadel
Жыл бұрын
PPF then ceramic coating. I never take my cars to the car wash. I always hand wash them. The car wash’s soaps are bad/low quality and the brushes that touch the car scratch up the paint. Some people do touch less car wash but I don’t do that either

As the economy readjust, prices for all cars will start going down or offer more discounts, the federal and state incentives will remain for this year, and also tesla are a bit overhyped in terms of performance, range and reliability, you buy a tesla for the gimmicks and tech theres really nothing else. Where tesla is better is the whole purchase process for those who are price conscious.

There is a ton of misunderstanding about charging. Charging to 100% is fine, you just aren’t supposed to leave the battery sitting in that stage for an extended period and supercharging (due to speed and heat) causes more wear and tear (and slows down considerably past a certain %).

The Y is an impressive car. I used to be a car fanatic. Not so much any more. I’m watching for the Tesla 2 at a $25-$30K price point. I started to buy a 3 back in 2020, but decided against. Ended up buying a Limited Prius Prime that stickered for $34,800, and only paid $26K after Toyota $4500 rebate in NE US, and $4500 Fed tax credit for plug-in of small battery. I average 75 MPG using regular gas, with no range anxiety. I’ll admit when the car is charged for the first 30 miles, it’s a lot faster. I charge it with Toyota supplied cable into 110 outlet, at night daily. It’s also a standard hybrid, so slow or in town traffic runs on hybrid battery, and braking charge’s batteries. I personally think for myself a Tesla daily driver would work for me. I don’t drive that much anymore, and rarely take long trips in a car. I also prefer a smaller car as over 90% of the time, I’m alone in the car… I just can’t justify spending $50-$70K on a car. Some of my friends have Tesla’s, and seem to be happy. I’m just more frugal with my money…..

The most important thing you wish you knew BEFORE buying your Model Y Performance is that you can put 18" wheels on it and get better mileage.
@MUFCXI
Жыл бұрын
Please stop with this argument. I hate seeing these. People don’t buy a performance model to get better mileage. People buy a performance for its, wait for it… PERFORMANCE. When I drive the car I want to be able to get that smile on my face. If I wanted to save mileage I would have just bought a long range version.
@Resist4
Жыл бұрын
@@MUFCXI Actually you are incorrect because good mileage can still be had with the performance version, with the right tires. In no way does going to 18" tires reduce the performance in any way. And in my opinion they look better than the larger thinner tires. More beefy sidewalls is also more protection against pot hole damage.

Actually is only 0.2 sec difference, I happened to have both cars, the Model Y P feel lots stronger and pulling is crazy due to the weight of the car is "transfer" on to you ( basic physics )., The Mode 3 LR with AC is slick and fast like a flying a jet. after all, one is a SUV and one is a sport sedan, I prefer Model 3 LR with AC, the acceleration is strong but lots smoother, especially the range is very good 355-358 miles. The Model Y P make me car sick if I punch it too fast 🤣. Anyway, both are below 4 second, and deadly quiet , no vibration, and since it computerized AWD, so no tires burning or skipping, all forces are 100% apply on the road, it is incredible feeling . You will NEVER get that from ICE cars
