I have never been up north, and Florida is still southern in some area, but I must admit, I absolutely LOVE our culture here because of the southern hospitality. Seriously. When stuck in the mud, it doesn't matter who or where you are from, as long as you are friendly, they will help you out. I have had countless friendly conversations with random people while on the boat, out camping, or even just walking on the street. Everyone smiles, even if it is just a quick friendly gesture. And most of us say ma'am and sir.

The grand ole state of Alabama is both the BBQ capital of the world, home to muscle shoals where some of the greatest music of this country has been made, but also has what is now called the southern but used to simply be referred to as the american mind set. Work hard, pray hard(optional), play hard and stay the hell out of everyone else business. It's that spirit that will keep this country alive.

You have: Southerners through and through (southern hospitality) The ghettos (especially in Georgia) The suburbans (Not through and through but still southern) The noobie (just moved in from out of town) The country (not to be confused with southern, but are similar, tend to be more Midwest)

90% of my family is from the south. Now, southerners are some of the kindest but also shadiest people on this planet. We will cook enough food for friends and family to feed an army, but during that meal, each and every person will have shade thrown at them at least 5 times and throw shade themselves. Sometimes, my family has shade throwing contests. I love them.

I'm a Tennessee citizen who grew up in Ohio. Raised Northern, but spent the last three years in the south and my sister was raised southern. A lot of my family's conversations consist of comparing and contrasting the two. North: More progressive, colder, darker, buildings and cities are closer, middle class is heightened here, people are generally more accepting of others, gas is slightly more expensive, and pro sports reign. South: More conservative, warmer, nice areas are nicer, but poorer areas are noticeably poorer. More spread out. Generally less accepting, but if your accepted, you're treated some of the best you can be. The food is generally fattier (more fried, more buttered, more sugary, etc.), gas is slightly less expensive, and college sports, especially college football, is huge.

North: "... people are generally more accepting of others" Not strictly true. People will not accept you in either place, only for different reasons. In The South, it's more likely to be based on religious or political grounds, whereas in the north it tends to be based mostly on classism. Both have a sizable issue with race.

I have lived in the north and the south. As a native Texan, I can easily say that the south is just as racially diverse as the north. People here are Texas are extremely nice and coming across aggressive, racist people isn't a common occurrence (unless you're in a small town). The only big difference socially that I've noticed between the north and the south is religion. There are churches on every corner in the south haha

I feel like a lot of the social aspect to this & the manners are quite similar to the posher part of England, or at least it relates a lot. You're expected to say sir and madam (or ma'am) to everyone whom you show respect (got absolutely heckled at international school abroad for saying thank you sir to teachers.) you're also treated quite stiffly if you're outside the family but once your in people look after you properly. Not quite southern hospitality but close❤️

One southern thing that I've learned from being a Southerner is that you say "how nice" or some variation if you don't really care about what the person is saying.

These were surprisingly correct. For anyone NOT from the South however, "Bless your/her/his/their heart" is the thing usually said before or after saying something terrible about someone. It makes it okay to say. Kinda like the rest of the world's "no offense"

Alex Reynolds exactly lol. I frequently heard phrases like "That boy is about the dumbest I have ever seen... bless his heart" or "Bless her heart, she isn't going anywhere in life". Everyone looks at you like a monster if those aren't added to it though lol.

Thomas Bolinger When someone says, you immediately feel offended because you know they’re insultin you. Even if it didn’t seem like it. That’s Alabamian life anyway. And no. Incest isn’t legal and it isn’t very popular. Have a nice day!

So true, especially the words meaning respect part. As a southern, when I lived in LA for a few months, people would give me the strangest looks or completely freaked when I would say anthing followed by a "sir/ma'am" to them. They would say things like "But I'm not old!". Never understood it honestly, since it's just a show of respect to someone you don't know or who is older than you. So I stopped saying "sir/ma'am" that way I could avoid the "that's how my mama raised me" conversations. But when I got back down to Florida/Georgia, that shit did not fly! I told my grandmother "yea" instead of "yes ma'am" and my mother had a fit and yanked my ear. Mind you I was 22 at the time. =/

Same here, man. I'm happy to be raised a southerner. I've been up to a few big cities like L.A. and New York, and people are just plain disrespectful. Not to mention down right mean. No one holds a door open, or holds a cab for anyone, or simply say good morning. I got the strangest looks when I did any of those. xD

If you've never BEEN to the south, don't start talking about how all southerners are. If your only perception of the south has come from movies, TV shows, and people on the internet, then you have no clue what you're talking about. As a Texan myself, I can promise you that we are just as diverse racially, politically, religiously, sexually, and in every other category as people on either coast.

lol Everyone thinks so little of southerners, immediately assuming that we're un- educated racists. But northerners are just as ignorant. When I was in NY (the Long Island part) I told one guy that I was from Arkansas. His reaction? "Whoa! You're a HICK?!?!?!?" This was actually a pretty common reaction, his was just the most extreme (and hilarious). The point is that so many people had an image in their minds about what a southerner 'should' be like and when I didn't fit that image they didn't know how to think or react. So, before you go on about what southerners are like, you may want to stop and look at yourselves first.

As a southerner, this video is painful to watch. The word pronunciation is way off and overdone (I mean WAY overdone! Probably because they're actually just yankee's trying to speak southern). Sweet tea isn't THAT sweet. FORGET ALABAMA! And hardly anyone drinks moonshine. Other than that though, good and accurate video haha!

this is not true. I am in Michigan, home of where GIBSON guitars originated, we listen to country music, I happen to live in the country, I have horses, I don't date city men. I live as country as any southerner, I even have a guitar.... although being close to Canada, we are USA heartland , midwestern. I do not feel I am a bad person, and if someone says has a 'blessed day ' or 'bless you ' up here they are about to or will rip you off. I do talk to a southern man, they are a LOT nicer then the northern tick / parasite men in north , but i did put a thieving southerner in jail a few years back for ripping me off. so , a southern accent or being born and raised in south or anywhere does not equate automatically 'southern hospitality', but i bought horses from the south, they were the best people, and so into walking horses, great men.... I won't date the dudes in north.. I am moving south, call me what you want, i will still go north to be w/my kids. Freedom in America.. & i was married to a New Yorker, he is a kind smart man.. no complaints, they aim to please. southerns are much more polite and do roll out red carpet and drop everything when you visit. I know, been there.
