A Table spoon of baking soda mixed in your shampoo will take out styling products. I've been a hairstylist over 30 years. This is the cheapest way anyone can help keep the hair cleaner . I’ve been slowly cutting my hair shorter and shorter over the past year. It’s about your length now. I quit my Spironalactone two years ago after having bad kidney stones. I also get testosterone pellets which can cause hair loss. I’ve found the right dose of pellets so I don’t lose hair. I recently tried the JVN hair hair products which I find are amazing! No joke. You are so right Marnie...low ferritin so very common in women (ferritin can drop incredibly low without iron deficiency anaemia e.g. low haemoglobin). Also androgenic alopecia can also take it's toll, which you can either take a DHT blocker and/or use something more topical but medical like Minoxidil. Problem with Minoxidil is you have to be consistent to prevent hair loss once you start (and it has side effects so not suitable for all - always consult your physician).

I went through a terrible hair loss a couple of years ago. No clear idea why but could have been a new migraine drug I started that a lot of people complained of hair loss on or just stress. I concur that seeing a dermatologist is key and also, if possible, find one that specializes in hair loss. I am on oral minoxidil now and have had great regrowth and my lashes and brows have benefited as well. But...I cannot find a regular dermatologist in my area who will prescribe it. My hair loss doc thinks it's crazy that more doctors are not using this oral minoxidil but my first derm said she just doesn't know enough about it and wasn't comfortable prescribing it. I've seen 3 other derms who all say the same thing. Also, something to note is that when your hair starts growing back, it will look super frizzy at first. It does get better and finally lays down but when mine first started growing in on top, it looked like literal pubs coming out of the top of my head. Sorry to be so crass but that's all I can think to describe it.

Brillo is a brand of steel wool, like to scrub pots and pans. 🙂 Sound a lot alike, though! VO5 was similar to Brylcreem.

I wash my hair every three days sometimes four. I do not use a blow dryer. I use Sephora smoothing cream and let my hair dry naturally. When it’s dry, I will use a straightener. I am someone who does have lots of thick hair and I wear it long past my shoulder blades (at 62). When my hair dries, it looks like a horse tail. I must smooth out the cuticle with a straightener. Long hair can weight down your look too. I suggest (if wearing long, thick hair) your stylist give you long layers when carrying long hair to give the volume and balance it needs.
@jenniferannfox2316
2 жыл бұрын
I know my stylist did the same as hers and I got no layers. It makes hair so healthy. If you keep it above collarbone, the weight is not a problem of dragging down your face. Any longer than collarbone and it does. Bobs are great for thinning hair for this reason. If you layer thinning hair it can almost look see-through which may lift hair but it's looks thinner.

When you're combing wet hold your hair mid-length down and pull a WIDE-toothed comb on the lower section of the hair. Especially when wet, hair is very elastic and can snap back, just like a rubber band and can also catch snarls more readily. I lose far less hair and have far less breakae doing this method. Then grab the next higher section of hair, repeat, until you've reached the roots and can glide the comb through. I still have thinning hair but I think I'm easier on it using this method and it doesn seem to help as there are not as many hairs in the comb at the end.

Your hair looks awesome today by the way. This video was very helpful. I too have Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism and now have gone thru menopause. The one good thing is gray hair is coarser so my hair appears thicker. I’ve let my hair go gray and stopped coloring so that helps too.. I love Colleen Rothchilds hair products and my hairdresser has noticed a good difference in my hair since using them. I do have dry hair and I find they work great for me. But I should take care when using my Revlon it seems. I usually let my hair air dry for a bit and then use it on a low setting. I should probably invest in a higher quality hair dryer at some point. Have a great day!

Yes, Marnie is correct as my hair stylist told me to put my hair, which is a little shorter than Marnie's) in a loose, low ponytail, using a silk scrunchie. The key factor, it must not be too tight, but it's tight enough to not fall out, and I sleep on a silk pillowcase. My hair in the morning, looks great. I have hypothyroidism and have been taking medication for about 3 years. I am also in my 70's, so there's aging. Lately, I haven't seen as much hair fallout when I wash it (every 3 days) and I also use good quality hair products, but not that expensive. I will ask my doctor when I see him, but my hair definitely has been looking and feeling thicker. I am attributing it to being on the medication for a few years, along with everything else. So, listen to Marnie and see a doctor first!

I have to update my profile pic because I have been dye free for 10 months and in doing that alone the hair loss was helped significantly. I'm retired now and while there is a demarcation I'm embracing my silver hair. Also in November I started Rogaine 5% once a day, bought a silk cap on Lilysilk and use it every night, doubled my vitamin D dosage, and in the process of balancing some hormone levels that were too high. Also have been using Irestore for a year now. Just found out my ANA is positive and I may have had lupus all this time with low iron levels. I think the low iron causes alot of hair loss in women. Do you still use the Irestore?
@MsGoldgirl
2 жыл бұрын
I’m really happy for you that your hair is healthy now, but can you really say it’s because you stopped coloring it? Using the Rogaine daily would be enough, adding in the iRestore would definitely make a huge difference. I would be very careful about the Vitamin D intake. I’m on prescription Vitamin D and get my blood levels checked regularly-too much in your system is a very bad thing. It can cause damage to your kidneys. I stopped the irestore because I want to see if the other stuff I’m taking works…it’s kind of link an experiment and it’s best to control the variables. Since I’m seeing hair growth now, I’m going to add it back in.
@jenniferannfox2316

@@MsGoldgirl that's true it may not have been the coloring alone but I think the reason it helped me to stop was because I was having so many allergic reactions until it was causing too much inflammation. I think I'm going to fire my hairstylist. I am (bottle) blonde and she breaks my hair each and every time she does my hair (every 10 weeks). I rarely use heat or styling tools. I air dry. I do complain about the breakage and when I come home, I have layers in my hair, which is breakage.

Curious why you are doing the protocol for androgenetic alopecia, the topical minoxidil and the DHT blocker medication, if the derm thinks its all from low ferritin.

She’s covering all the bases I guess.

Thanks Marni. Do you know if CR hair mask has protein? My hair is fine and thin and if protein builds up, it looks terrible.

I don’t think it does but if you click on the link you can read the ingredients on their website.

Do you think that the Light helmet made any difference? It's still on my Amazon Wish List, but it is SO PRICEY & I still haven't pulled the trigger. Does Insurance cover Dermatologists for hair loss? Do you use a Heat Protectant before styling? Do you have a recommendation for one that won't weigh down super fine hair? & My 2 cents is to test the water in your house. If you have hard water or a lot of minerals, lime or chlorine, it can seriously damage your hair & only add to Knotting & Breakage. 😘

I know the light helmet made a difference, but unless I address the underlying cause, it won’t “fix” anything.

Also I love the Redken United heat protectant.

Have you noticed any negative side effects from using spironolactone? I’m desperately looking for something to add to my minoxidil and NIR headband (red light therapy)!

Didn’t Selena Gomez have issues with it, I think she had a kidney transplant. Wow, you should really do some research on side effects, they aren’t ‘nothing.’ They can make you sick.
